Hey all, Anyone ever done a timing belt on a 96-00 civic? Do you have to remove the engine? Is it as much of a PITA as I have heard? Also- this is due at around 100K correct? Thanks, Andrew

Just bought 5 of the brown discs and two rubber roloc bristles for aluminum and iron heads- one green one yellow from carquest in delaware. Thanks!

Thanks guys- Oh yeah! Thats it! The backing pad setup makes me even more sure! Can't believe I didn't ask this sooner- so many projects so many years past... Laters, Andrew

hmm- the sandpaper ones look a little too wild compared to what I am talking about- have you used those on aluminum? verse! I believe they may be 3M buffing pads but I can not find them that small- this thing was maybe 2" in diameter MAX likely 1" to 1.5". And looked like this: http://www.levineautoparts.com/3mfi3inknbup.html but I don't know how you would attach that to an air grinder and that one is 3".

Hey guys--- A while back I had this guy setup the first rear end (of 3) in my LT1 F-body - He had a 90 degree air die grinder which he had this little white cloth appearing pad which he used on the rear-end housing and cap and it took the crusty gasket material off and polished the steel to a point you could eat off of in a matter of a minute. I have even seen guys do the same thing on aluminum before I think. The pad seemed to stay together such that he could do several rear-ends or heads or waterpump mounting surfaces with one. I am sick and tired of scraping till my eyes cross with my replaceable razor blade scraper and spray on gasket eater on projects. Can anyone share what this tool was and where to get one for an air grinder or dremel? I have tried the tiny felt wheels on the dremel and it just ate the felt up in less than a minute on a throttle body I was trying to clean and wouldn't touch it so I brought out the trusty old precarious/stomach turning/scraper Thanks!

lol you guys crack me up. Maybe I learned it from my wife, an attorney, qualify your audience before you ask... Are you a moderator? What would YOU like to talk about? Sometimes this forum is so juvenile

Everyone thanks for the info and advice- Wife has won out- still looking at C5Zs and now planning on some masonry work at our house... crossle- I may take you up on that idea- my parents were members of the porsche club for 30 years. Any no I would never molest a 914-6 I am quite aware of their rarity. I would probably start from a 1.7 car and put the 3.6 flat six in it if I was going to go with an overpriced/overrated porsche motor.

LOL at least I am King of something.... Got what I needed to know- thanks!

Does your uncle live locally? Does he want to show off his collection to a fellow enthusiast?

thanks guys- I will likely call that dave fellow- kicking around buying one to do a ls1 swap in as my new project and wanted to see if anyone had one I could see/ride in- my parents had one and said it was a great handling car but a rusty pos. And that was when it was only 5 years old- not 32 for the newest. They sold it when I could barely walk. My dad and I put a 4.3L Vortec V6 in a 1977 porsche 924 with a "kit" from renegade hybrids and we basically had to do it from scratch- different ownership then but overall not a big fan of renegade but thanks for the tip. Wife is deadset against any more projects and is telling me to get a c5 z06 or nothing but I love to tinker- she says I should focus my abilities on our house- she is likely correct and will win but at least I could research all about it for the future.. Thanks! Andrew

My practically stock LT1 Firebird used to walk 96-98 GTs from a dig in third gear- no joke I did it by accident once.... What was OVR ralph maltby's ESP SN95 Cobra monster- 94/95?

hey all- is there something wrong with the forum or is it my browser- it doesn't seem to want to refresh- ie the recent posts are always the same- my private messages dont show up and my subscribed threads dont refresh until I hit the green refresh button or sometimes I even have to delete something

andy I would read on jeepforum for awhile- I have found that it is opposite of what you would expect- the specialized forums usually have better deals than the generic sources because it is a more informed market. Ex. corvetteforum has in general better deals on vettes than autotrader/ebay/craigslist- same with the corral for mustangs, and mr2oc for mr2s, jeepforum for jeeps. You are also more likely to find one that most of the bs has already been done on- ie common problems fixed or if you want to buy new you can read what people are paying and where... corvetteforum has corvette dealers online that offer great deals- I bet others do as well..

Just my humble opinion but If you do it on a stock shortblock n/a it is going to be have terrible driveability at those power levels just by the nature of the size of the head ports, compression ratio, and the size of cam it is going to require. I know of some with 320-330 rwhp with FTI (Ed curtis) setups that are still relatively streetable on the stock shortblock but thats pushing it. what they said though is correct but not cheap - for maintaining some driveability you need to get more power from the shortblock then the heads/cam- balanced and blueprinted shortblock by pros with expensive rods, custom pistons, and machining tricks by fox lake, victory racing in cleveland, keith craft etc and flowtech induction(FTI) or Total Engine Airflow (TEA) recommended heads, cam, intake and have it tuned and put together by Rob and Don LaSota. I am sure Brian at Dynotune does a great job as well I just do not have any personal experience with his tuning work- I have met him and his dad and they are top notch guys. We are lucky to have two classy father son team tuning teams in columbus ohio. FWIW- why does he want 375 to the wheels in a factory five cobra- I hope he is a capable driver- my car is fast enough to kill most people in a straight line (365 rwhp/3140 lbs with me in it - I am a lightweight ;-)) and it weighs a good 5-800 lbs more- I can only imagine what it would be like at 100+ mph on a road course. I know I will be the forum wuss but I recommend he spend some money at bondurant before upping his power level.

I don't off hand but do any search for raptor shift light or harlan shift light and there will be the wire color and its location.
