Thanks for the free bump bud! I definitely recommend the fox - mine has been a very reliable and very fun daily driver for 3 years. My dad and I have driven it to bowling green KY, drag raced it, and drove it home 2 times, and been to norwalk and national trails numerous times without a trailer. After some thought I am really thinking about keeping mine and overhauling the suspension to try some autoxing next spring. Check out corral.net (tech is great and the annual corral day is worth the trip to KY), buckeyestangs.com, and stangbangerz.com- a lot of guys like superstallions.com and allfordmustangs (allford actually has great archives) As these cars are driven hard definitely look carefully for cracks where the a-pillar meets the top of the car on either side of the windshield, check the underside of the hatch, bottoms of doors, and floor pans for rust. Without a doubt- research torque boxes (chassis control arm mounts) and learn what one should look like that is not torn, check the rear shock mounts for elongation of the holes and or looseness, see if subframe connnectors have been installed- good sign as the owner knew something about building a foundation before torquing the hell out of it. It is relatively easy (if you read a lot or know people that have done it) to put a big cammed, carbed 351 in it with a c4/c6 and some juice and fly but that is hardly a car that can be enjoyed by most on a daily basis and not be a hassle to go to the grocery store and back on a sunday afternoon if you feel up to it. The more you modify them the louder they get and the harder to maintain a good idle, low speed behavior, rob and don lasota are geniuses at eecIV and SCT. It takes a lot of money to make these cars really fast, reliably, and factory driveable- Keep in mind that they start out in the low 15s to high 14s as that was really fast back when they were new. It is much cheaper to buy one that is already done the way you like than to build it yourself. Sure there is more risk involved but if you are capable of doing it yourself you will more than likely be able to tell if it has been done right by asking the right questions, demanding the proper displays (low speed driveability tests, recent quarter mile timeslips/dyno results, checking fluid levels, compression results, and examining the overall quality of work and quality of parts chosen (IE Accufab TB versus professional products - best bet is stock or accufab- been there done that, more examples like that) Now is a good time of year to buy one as the people become less negotiable and prices go up in the spring as demand increases. Good luck and let me know if you want me to help you check one out or have any more questions.... AWESOME cars.

thorne your bias is beautiful. Also- I thought we were going to line up at fall norwalk???? The rsx does not take long to get to 6000 rpm- it revs faster than a 3" stroke 5.0 mustang both in stock form. Not sure of the stroke on the rsx but I bet it is short.

The car I drove with the "turbo lag" was a brand new 2004 WRX Impreza. Asking price of 27K or 28K I forget. It had maybe 10 miles. Maybe it wasn't turbo lag- maybe it was the powerband- either way I was NOT impressed. Also- looking past that god awful hood scoop was equally fun. Opinions are like a#@$#@$ To each their own. He is not looking for a quarter mile monster- if he is he better forget all this #@$#@ and buy a mustang or camaro. Who has owned or actually driven an RSX-S to give him some more opinions... BTW check out clubrsx.com- a little juvenile like most of the import groups but if you stick it out you can actually find some decent tech.

I would agree that engines are specialized- a good sbc builder is not necessarily a good sbf builder likewise with chevy rat motors and bbf. I would go with dave's suggestions- ask stimmel too.
-
Dont get the tbi engine- the vortec W code-CPI engine is stout- we liked the one in ours so much we put one in a porsche 924.

Funny-I have actually thought of building a place like this to rent out on the east side- All shop tools, 220 for a welder, infrared heat, awesome air compressor setup, lift, hefty deposit to prevent tool theft but only 100-200 a week- I know before I was a home owner I would have paid good money for this as opposed to those overpriced, dark, small, freeze your ass off apartment garages.

We have an 04 we bought new in october 2003 and I will echo what the others have said. Great handling, great interior (the seats rock), it actually has v8 like power from 6-8000 rpm- and will put you back in your seat - very surprising. Sounds mean up there too- I missed the v8 torque though at all other rpms so I gave it to my wife. Only problems in 98,000 miles were: drivers side door lock solenoid failed (25.00 fix myself), hvac illumination dim until you tap the dash on startup-dome light has started similar activity (loose connection somewhere), and ours also has a strange behavior that may be intended but if you leave it outside on a really really cold night we (every christmas as my wife and I stay over at the parents), when you get back in - it will take a while for the heater fans and vents to open- I guess I am used to older cars that will blow cold air until the engine heats up but I think the delay is a little excessive as engine temperature is good and it still takes a while until it will kick-in. No problems if garaged or not that cold outside. Tiny things- Great car overall ! FWD is GREAT in the snow- like a tractor- This is the only sporty FWD car I have driven for an extended period and I am not a big fan for performance driving- tough to launch hard and shift fast smoothly. If you spin it is hard to drive through it like rwd... I am sure if I would have stuck with it I would have learned the ropes but alas the wife wont let me touch it. That said though it isn't a dragster its a euro sporty car that is great on gas and great in the snow. requires premium fuel though. I have kicked around the idea of getting another one and putting a turbo, hondata, and a shifter in it- the only thing it lacks is power and unless you are used to v8s it will be more than enough. AND to the subie drivers out there- no offense but I was not impressed on the test drive I did- I hammered it to the floor at a light with a WRX impreza and I had turbo lag so bad that it felt like a 2 cylinder through the entire intersection- once I got through the intersection it was decent but that was well after I had lost the mood. STI would have been cool but much more expensive. SRT-4 neon I drove was much cheaper- could have got it brand new for 20k out the door- not impressed with build quality as the clutch was chattering after a single test drive- very fast though and it really did feel like a v8 at all rpms... handling was good but seemed unpredictable as I felt more safe in the RSX-S. Would have got this car but the viper style seats put my legs up into the bottom of the dash, (could have got the base seats) but I was afraid of the reliability even with the 70,000 mile powertrain warranty. A little too loud for me as well as it comes with no muffler! (ok with a v8 not a 4) celica GTS is close but inferior in all categories. Honda FTMFW Also with the seats folded down you can actually haul a lot for such a small car.

damn 30K on trade is awesome. I have been seriously watching c5z's for months now and that is a great deal. What do you want for your DTE brace for a car I dont even have hehe?

Nice vids- sounds mean- Is that Lacon Road in Hilliard you are pulling out onto in the second video? I used to estimate for Eramo & Sons that is now behind Bobcat there. Drove my fox coupe every day- surprised we didn't run into each other- I worked late hours though.

Do you have all the stock parts? Ever consider a clean, highly modified fox coupe as a trade? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2697057

Good luck with your demod! It must be painful- I may end up doing the same thing with mine-

Would anyone like eggs with that bacon?

1. Viper 2. Porsche 924 at anything above idle 3. Basically any naturally aspirated automotive 4 cylinder with any sort of "performance muffler (Exception of RSX-S/S2000 with proper $$$ exhaust or other 8000 rpm honda engine and they don't sound good until they get there...same reason crotch rockets sound good--- 10,000 rpm) 4. Most WRX's but I have heard a couple though that do sound neat 5. Have never experienced it but have heard that an unmuffled rotary is one of the worst sounding engines of all time. 6. Some of you are going to sh#@% but I personally do not like the sound of v-twins or most any 2 cylinder motorcyle. Not in any order.

Rest easy bro, a Viper sounds much more awesome than a fartcan- just not a 5.0 *grin*
-
Is this a joke? You are aware that is a boxer engine as well correct?

oops duplicate post.

Check the vacuum lines to the FMU. What size/color injectors are in it? I second taking it to Rob LaSota

Nice Christmas Present to Yourself!!!!! More practice and a better driver and this is a mid to high 11 second car as it sits. Low 11s/high 10s are possible with less than 1000.00 investment (pulley swap to 8-10 psi, more aggressive tune, nice driving)
