Nice find, and nice photos. I don't know snakes much either except the dangerous ones.

It used to be a pretty good deal, you could pick up a truck from the .gov for around $1500, bob it, sell the extra axle and bed to pay for the bob and guys would pay more towards $6-8K for the finished product. Would be cool to have a 5ton, but a lot of draw backs too, ie needing air bag endorsement. Also its a 23k lb truck empty so a real mess if you get stuck in some mud. Mine has the bigger LDS multifuel engine and gets 8-10mpg. Good news is you can filter waste oil and run it as a 50/50 mix with diesel for a cost equivalent to 16-20mpg so not real bad for a huge truck, just messy making your own fuel.

At that price if its in decent shape thats getting to be a bargain. There has been a run on them in the last couple years between people buying them for prepping and people buying them to remove the third axle and make a 4x4. At the same time the army has pretty much ran out of good ones to auction. They go for more than that right out of govliquidation.com and now you can barely find one complete and/or running. Very few collectors are selling right now.

How many show up for the events on average?

I'm coming to cars and coffee, I just need a free weekend. So far looks like that won't happen for awhile.

Its pretty much completed, just a few little mods and maintenance I'd like to do. I'll probably make the stencils for the trailers unit markings and paint them on this week. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/IMG_16611_zpsc62401aa.jpg A quick and dirty HDR shot due to facing the sun and not wanting to reposition the truck http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/M35A2HDR2_zps809346ab.jpg

A flash with zoom capability can typically spot light a subject pretty far away. Definitely about to be used with at least a 200mm lens.

Those are some very cool photos. I decided to take a different bridge across big walnut on the way home tonight with my Daughters and ended up kicking myself for not having a real camera handy. Sitting on the rocks was a pair of Male and Female Mallard Ducks. I think I interrupted them;-)

Dude should have remained in his car if he was gonna go crazy. Thats how people get shot. I've had people in my face acting all badass. Mostly they are full of it and just wanting to get some words off so I don't escalate the situation and so far they always defuse.

Except that the bathroom would be pretty trashed, it seems like a pretty funny prank to me. Could turn bad though if dude sucked in a lung full of smoke and didn't get out in time.

Do you have a direction I could go for further reading on this? Seems like interesting reading.

Motion detectors give me a pretty good idea if anyone is around my property. Guns always around somewhere close, but I never feel like a threat is just around the corner. I just realize that if someone does come for bad reasons the police are 20 minutes away so its up to me. A relative of mine is freaking nuts, gold bars, food, ammo stashed in every place he can put it around his house. I wouldn't be surprised if his ceiling falls in soon. He has no real reason to be either other than he reads to many BS websites. He won't leave his property for anything, even to go to the store. Its getting to where he sends his wife to get more supplies.

On day a guys gonna empty a mag or two at them and then we're gonna hear some serious whining.

No action up here in corn country yet and my neighbor who is a full time farm market farmer isn't doing anything to soil, but his wife has been out in the greenhouse the last few days.

Easy to work on at least.

Yeah on sand you want to float. I have a tacoma with the electric lockers and they really make turning around in the ruts easy. If the bronco is just a toy you could always get a rear locker or have someone weld it. That works great and I've done it. That last pic had really loose stuff so even lockers won't help, probably just fat tires and some speed.

Good info, the only areas I've spent actual time have been the outer banks and reidsville. I'm going to the outerbanks again in June for vacation. My sister is getting married and possibly moving to NC and she did drive down there a visit a few places trying to decide where to live. She liked Charlotte and Cary. Her fiance had a job offer near Goldsboro, but they didn't like the areas they saw. My father is near retirement, works for United Rental and they want him to move to Raleigh and manage a store a few years.

We use home defense every six months and don't see spiders in the house. Best thing ever invented IMO.
-
Thats almost worth considering SC, if I get my way we'll be on the ocean with either a small place or condo.
-
Very cool, I haven't visited the mountain areas of NC for many years. I see I have places to visit.

Wife has her own company and works from home (customer sales/service phone stuff) so it can be moved anywhere with an internet connection. I may actually work with her, but my ultimate goal is to not have to work much because I'll have a place that I buy so no mortgage or rent. I am talking to a company in Greensboro that has a great position. If I get the chance its one of those things I simply can't pass up.

Many of my family members have been wanting to move south for years. My wife and I are getting tired of running the rate race everyday and are also thinking of moving south for better weather and downsizing our cost of living. Not going "off grid" like so many in the trend, just rethinking our home, working, etc to get into a position where we can work less, travel more, and if I have my way living no more than a few hours from a beach so I can enjoy some of things living near a coast can offer. My wife's sister lives in Reidsville (just north of Greensboro) My current type of work would allow me to move pretty much anywhere I wanted with a little timing. Places we are thinking of are Reidsville, Greensboro, the Raleigh-Cary/Fuquay-Varina area. Wrightsville Beach might be cool, I don't know anything much about it except its got an ocean. The outer banks seem like a good idea, but we vacation there all the time and I can see living there might be a little annoying due to only one main road. I could do Charlotte, but no specifically good reason to be there. Any areas to avoid? Mostly looking for better schools/neighborhoods.

This sounds like the best way to price something.
