  1. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/04/05/tennessee.sewage.spill/index.html?hpt=T2 Really tragic, but come on CNN....why you gotta put their names in the story?
  2. One important thing to remember: Neither KBB, nor Edmunds, nor NADA will buy your car. They could value your car at $10,000,000 but unless someone is willing to fork over that cash, its not worth $10,000,000. Carmax, however, WILL offer you actual money. On a car like yours, however (older, higher miles) they generally are not as generous. I think your best bet would be to show up at some races or car meets with a "SALE" sign in the window; that way you're talking to guys who know what the car is, and you're not dealing with ignoramuses. They may pick apart every detail of the car that doesn't meet expectations, but that only means they're interested
  3. it was some 86 year old dude complaining about "ruining the peace" Headsup, old folks; peace and quiet doesn't exist anymore. If you want that, move away from the east coast and head to Montana
  4. All good suggestions, except Cheers. Booooorinnnnnng expensive tourist trap. Get a pass for the T. You'll never be on time anywhere, but youre a tourist so it doesn't matter. Take the E train on the Green Line to get out to Jamaica Plain for the Sam Adams brewery. Go to Government Center and get a cab to go by the Hahhhbah (harbor) for the Harpoon brewery. Both are essential visits. If you're into aqariums, the New England Aquarium is very very cool. Expensive, not huge, but very cool. I think right now is the time of year for whale watches, but I'm not certain. If so, do one of those. They're really cool. Faneuil Hall is cool, and where lots of the tourist crap is, but its a very historic area. NORTH END FOR DINNER. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION. Also, don't bother going to any of the big, well advertised stores. Walk around the district until you see a menu in the window that you like. The only place I've ever been twice is a small place on one of the main streets called Cibo. Cash only, but holy shit their linguine pescatore (fisherman's linguine...clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops) was to die for. Legal Seafoods is expensive but deeeeeelish and there are numerous locations. Spend some time walking around Boston Commons. You're also just a few blocks away from Chinatown and the Theater District. Kenmore Square for a Sox game. There are places you can get day-of-game tickets for $25 as long as you walk straight in the door when you buy them, they're on Yawkey Way. If you don't get in, watch the game at Boston Beer Works (they brew their own) or Game On which are both right under/beside Fenway. Also look for the shirt vendors (that you can haggle with) selling "Jesus Hates Derek Jeter" shirts. Around Faneuil Hall and Government Center area you can get horse-drawn carriage rides which wifey will love. Took my long time ago gf there for our anniv and it was good times. If you're a cigar smoker, David P. Ehrlich & Co is one of the oldest cigar shops in the U.S. If you want a decent bottle of wine, look up Brookline Liquor Mart. I used to work there. They have thousands and thousands of bottles on hand at any given time, with decent prices and a wonderful staff. Located off the B train on the Green Line, Warren St. stop. I'll post more as I think of it. EDIT: Thought of something. Since I condemned Cheers, if you want nachos go to Sunset Cantina or Sunset Bar & Grill. Cantina is on Commonwealth Ave, right across from Boston University Fitness & Recreation Center and has about 120 different tequilas. Bar & Grill is located further up the street on Brighton Ave (Comm Ave peels off to the left, Brighton Ave continues in a straight line) and they have about 120 taps. Do NOT get seasonal beers from Bar & Grill, they don't clean the lines when they switch seasons you sometimes get something light like a wheat beer tasting dark because they had a porter or stout on that tap over the winter. Go for something more year-round and you'll be pleased. And their nachos are AWESOME. Not a college atmosphere at either location.
  5. I looked left to make sure there was no one in the road, I turned, I looked right to make sure there was still nobody, and as I was accelerating I saw him turn onto Chantry and get on the gas. He was just heading back to the station and wanted to raise some revenue. I was pulled over for less than 3 minutes.
  6. HA. Shit, $126. I've got no tickets in over 5 years, fucker couldn't just give me a warning? Meh, may as well take next monday morning to fight it, see if the guy doesn't show up to tell his side. My manager will understand, he just got a ticket a couple weeks ago . edit: Officer Strozyk was as professional as I've ever encountered. Certainly a departure from the Boston PD I was used to. I call him "fucker" in the kindest way possible.
  7. CPD got me on Chantry pulling an illegal U-Turn because the FIAT I was driving was running on fumes and I didn't want to run out on a test drive. I earned it, I'm not complaining about crooked cops or anything. The good news is, this means that every crime in Columbus must've been solved if Columbus's finest are that bored. Maybe we really don't need to have any more cadets going through....
  8. Well I don't know the laws in Delaware, but in many states anything hanging off the back of a truck that is not completely within the bed has to have a red flag or red paint applied to it for visibility reasons. If that's the case in DE, I would hope Frau Sturmbannführer made sure the DelDOT workers were as concerned with that law as they were with basketball hoops and absuing power as an officer.
  9. modern > dated IMO if you're gonna drop money on an SUV, these days the nicest looking and best value is Grand Cherokee. Maserati is making a new SUV on that platform I think. http://www.headlightblog.com/images/200905/2011-jeep-grand-cherokee-limited-uconnect-guardian.png http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/archive/c/c5/20100707234037!2011-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-Limited-SMH.jpg edit: also, I couldn't live with the TBSS steering wheel. Not a single spoke without a damn button on it. edit2: yeah i know the Jeep and the Durango are basically the same, I'd just rather have the Jeep...they hold their value better despite having more problems
  10. Oh you mean the Chinese are going to be the dominant world power very soon? I'm gonna try to act surprised. The problem will not be one of debt or taxation. It will be that in the next 20 years, Americans will become so distrustful of each other that dividing and conquering us will be a breeze.
  11. I support the creation of a Troll-only member setting on CR. Designated CR Trolls would only be able to post in threads created by other CR Trolls, and while they'd be able to see threads posted by other members they'd be verboten from posting in any of them (with the Kitchen being the exception). Also, give them their own forum.
  12. hmmmm i'm interested. if its not sold in a week or so you may hear from me
  13. This should be stickied: NEVER MEET WITH ANYONE FROM CRAIGSLIST ANYWHERE BUT A POLICE STATION PARKING LOT IF YOU'RE TRANSACTING WITH CASH
  14. this looks like someone trying to set up a robbery. turn it over to police with the information you provided before someone gets hurt
  15. maybe not faster, but waaaay cooler http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Oldsmobile-442-W30-Convertible-Clone-455CI-4-Speed-/280644359355?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4157b514bb#ht_500wt_1182
  16. that shit'll happen when you buy on margin
  17. well intentioned police and senators have a point, but their blame is misplaced. an app that alerts people to DUI checkpoints, speed traps, red light cameras is only as dangerous as the people who use it, who are (derp) drunk drivers. their cell phone didn't make the decision for them. besides, i would think police would be completely for an app that encouraged people to drive safely by pointing out apparently dangerous spots.
  18. Kinda funny you say that. We had a customer who we bought a CLS-Class in California for (long story short, we were the only dealer with the patience to put up with her BS long enough to sell her a car). Between the time she traded in her oldass BMW and the time we got her car here, we gave her a loaner vehicle and had her sign a release that said only she and her husband could drive this $35k Towncar. flash forward 4 days, a coworker sees our Towncar with dealer plates weaving in an out of traffic on Refugee rd at 70+mph, he calls the cops because he thinks the car's been stolen. Turns out she'd given the car to her uninsured 17 year old to tear around with his friends.
  19. easy there, internet tough guy
  20. I'm currently reading Tornado/Hail watch in our area. Given the high humidity, rising temp, etc. I'm not surprised. forecast for tomorrow is 40 degrees. we gonna get destroyed today.
  21. 1-800-GRAB-DUI. 1-877-7-PATROL. if the number of officers I see at speed traps is any indication, CPD has nothing better to do than scare the piss out of a couple shithead teens. "Yes, I'd like to report a drunk driver. Two girls in a late model Lexus rolled through a stop sign and pulled out in front of me, going way left of center in the process. Yes, I DO have their license plate..."
  22. i'm assuming this is 1 set of 2 speakers 2 tweeters?
  23. I'll abstain until someone picks up this cat, but I'm interested in the enclosed shitter for my cat. He's been dropping some unholy bombs lately. So if the person who gets the cat doesnt need it, PM me.
