Ben is spot on. Forecast high is 39 degrees. I don't doubt that we'll get snow, but if the low pressure area moves just a touch north, we'll get more milder, rainy air from the south and less blow-back from the north as the storm passes (which will be the main driver of the snowfall). Will keep an eye on it for sure, but UA only had a 2-hr delay (instead of a full close) for last week's storm and that was sufficient. I predict this will be more of the same.

Title issue for CTS-V? Credit Union screwed up...
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
I'll make sure I've got color copies of the title. I know it's not perfect, but I've got a paper trail so far plus I have the gaddamn car and a title showing me as the new owner according to the State of California; just not endorsed by the P.O. More to come on Monday. Thanks again. -
So, I've been enjoying my '07 V for the last few months, generously on the P.O's California plates. No troubles, but at the turn of the year I figured it's high time to get this puppy registered in my name. I received the title in the mail - sent from P.O's credit union where he had a loan - directly to me, addressed in the P.O's name (instead of the C.U. as previous lienholder). I thought that was wierd... Take it to the BMV, and they obviously indicated that the P.O. never signed off on the title transfer. I indicated that the credit union was the one who sent me the title; not the P.O....She said I'd have to get proper signatures releasing the title front and back. Bloody'ell... I've communicated with the P.O. by email and text messages when I bought the car from him, and he continues to be helpful. He's calling the credit union on Monday, and worst case scenario is I would FedEx him the title and he'd send it back. I'm getting a little twang of worry that - again, he's been a good guy thus far - I send him the title and never see it again. At the same time, I'm not going to forge his signature in the lien release section... Should I make a color scanned copy of the front and back of the title? Is there an intermediary I should go through for this sort of remediation? This may all be for naught if the Credit Union owns up to the error and sends a letterhead or new title back to me...but I'm curious if anyone on the board has run into this situation. Thanks!

Acceptable amount of engine movement? (Cool turbo video inside)
zeitgeist57 replied to coltboostin's topic in Passing Lane
There's probably a little bit of accentuated movement because of the camera angle. Note the curve to the drivers' fender? There's a bit of a "fisheye" to the lens to capture more of the engine bay. Also, that turbo is hanging off the front corner of the engine a good bit...even with a little bit of twist that arm of a turbo mount out there is going to move more than the block does. -

How did CTD do at this event?
-
911 is rear engine hanging after the rear axle. Rabid is front engine hanging waaaay ahead of front axle. You need a Toyota Previa 4WD: mid engine, driving both axles. Then your powertrain spread will be complete.

Thanks guys...I relayed these sites to my bud.

Best detail products for the money! DD cleaning...
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Thanks for your points, guys. I agree about not needing the power washer too...I've gone back to the coin-op car wash this winter and for $1.50 I get a hot, soapy power-wand wash that I can use to knock salt/slush off topside and underside...that's about the worst the car ever gets is in winter. I'm sure regular maintenance during warmer months will keep it as good as it's gonna look. Definitely looks like Sonax wheel, Optimum washsoap, and a Speed Master brush for now. Quick google search earlier showed that Autogeek option...I'll buy some stuff for my FiL as well. -
Best detail products for the money! DD cleaning...
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Thanks, Andy! I looked at that Full Effect wheel cleaner and it does look like great stuff. Anyone have any discounts for products? BTW, despite my cheapassedness, I realized this last year (especially with Sonax) that cheap, piss-based wheel cleaners and soaps are now costing a pretty penny. Yes, you pay more for the professional products but if I get something recommended by others, it tends to do better cost-per-volume over the cheap WalMart/AutoZone stuff, especially with a discount or bulk-shipping on the internet. I've got a milk crate of old cheap products I'd rather get rid of. -
Alright...I surprised myself when I did some searching and didn't find much on detailing products. I want to be READY for the 2015 season. Please advise on what I need to buy online: Wheel cleaner - thinking IronX or Royal Brown? Rinseless soap - Optimum? Steamer - for carpet cleaning and leather Electric power washer - For wheel well, undercarriage? Brushes - I've used an excellent soft nylon bristle brush that I'll continue using, but would like a good between-spoke wheel brush. Leather/Vinyl treatment - I bought a can of Sonax for my BMW last season and I liked it alot for the leatherette seats and hard tonneau cover Anything else you recommend? This will be used on my 2 "nicer" DDs (CTS-V and BMW) so nothing I need to spend $100s on, though I realize a large rinseless jug will be about $50 but should last a long time. Thanks in advance, CR Detailers! If I missed previous discussions, just copy/paste in here...

Yes!!! Keep the updates coming... For those of you (like me) that had to look up Eurowise...sounds like a great little company.

That's a great vid. Makes you appreciate the sturdiness of rail engineering.

http://www.amcarguide.com/wp-content/gallery/patinad-camaro/patinad-patina-camaro-2010-04.jpg I like the patina option because...why chase after a sparkling paint job when every single day the Florida sun is trying to kill it?
-
Even if we dipped, I can't imagine it would last that long if paint (supposedly the more durable option) wouldn't survive more than a few years. I did think of that one. Peeling dip revealing a destroyed paint jerb: I can't think of a worse look for a car.

Before I brought my Passat down to Florida this summer, I still share a '99 Jaguar XJ8L with my FiL who also has a condo near mine. We bought it with only 42k miles on it a few years ago from the same dealer I bought my BMW from in Naples. Fast forward 3 years, and the paint is getting absolutely obliterated. Admittedly, it sits in an executive parking lot by Fort Myers airport (uncovered), and when we use it it's on an asphalt parking lot in our complex (uncovered). http://i.imgur.com/dfQp2ul.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AMgswbn.jpg FiL was just down there and he got a quote for $1800, saying that they will have to sand down to metal to repaint it. Obviously, we don't want to spend that much on a $5k car, and with no plans of covering it, it's just going to get baked again in a few years. In addition to the trunk, roof, and hood, the paint fading is rolling down to the tops of the fenders. Any thoughts? I half-jokingly told my FiL (who is a car guy) that we can fine-sand it some more, to give it a patina'd "Rat Jaguar" appearance. Looks like it's going that way anyway. Understandably, he'd like it to look as presentable as possible, given that he's spending more time down there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Love build threads. This will be a fun one to see when it's completed. Big props to you for working even harder to stay on point given this cold weather. Some observations: - That wheel on the drivers' front looks wiiiide (which is good!). Is that the rolling stock you're planning on using? Could you tease us with a pic? - To me, removing the A/C and PS pulleys from the lower front of the motor makes a long run from the alternator to the crankshaft pulley. Any concerns about the belt coming in contact with the other side of itself spinning the water pump? - BTW...dem injectors be like "You IS gonna replace us, right?"
