Once you get over the garbage-stigma in our society about minivans, they are by far the best way to move a family around over the life of the vehicle (considering purchase price, maintenance, cost to repair, and resale value). I really do like the Mazda 5 but even with a stick I was not pleased how slow it was on the highway. The Hyundai Entourage/Kia Sedona is a great start (definitely better than the Chrysler Town & Country/Volkswagen Routan), but the quality won't hold up to a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey. SUV's LOL. Honda Odizzie's for lyfe.

FYI for anyone interested in this topic: the diesel mill doesn't benefit the U.S. market that much. We still have readily-available sources of 100LL (100-octane low-lead) which most of the 4- and 6-cylinder GA planes burn. Diesel propeller planes burn JetA (jet fuel) which is slightly cheaper than gas and also readily available at any decent airport in the states. However, elsewhere in the world, 100LL is either tough to get, or ridic 'spensive: I read where 100LL may be $6.89/gal and JetA is $5.89/gal in the United States, in Europe or Asia it can be $10/gal for 100LL, and in Africa it's as high as $22/gal (if you can find it)! Mooney's diesel M10 makes a lot more sense to the rest of the world. The performance of diesels is definitely respectable, but it'll take a worldwide shift to jetfuel-burning Cessnas for the U.S. fuel infrastructure to change IMO.

:no::no::no: I haven't been pricing new GA aircraft since I started flying 4 years ago...I couldn't afford it then and I can't afford it now. The M10 is being built in China, but so is Cessna's LSA, and a lot of other lower-end planes. I took Allegiant Air out of Rickenbacker to Florida last month. They fly old, smoky MD-88s, and I noticed the tag on the main hatch frame said 10-20-83. I have less of a problem taking that old monster around the world than some of the LSA's being built in China today, "advanced-tech" or not.

My guess for a "competitively" priced, 170kph diesel 2-seater would be $150-$225k. I'd price it lower, but diesel powerplants are 'SPENSIVE...

I absolutely LOVE how brutally honest that Harry is of the cars he owns. The window (crank!!!!) couldn't accomodate my parking pass at the office garage. Didn't realize Lambo used the 12-cylinder quattrovalvole all the way through the LP670SV.

Cleetus has developed a couple of rust spots that I want to cut out and tack-weld some patch panels to. Given the...*ahem*...humble nature of Cleetus, I don't need some fancy, made-in-Taiwan rust replacement panels that are e-coated and overcharged from LMC Truck... Does anyone have a door, fender, or hood from an older teeruk or car I can have? I'll cut out the sheetmetal I need, hammer the shit out of it, weld it on and smooth out the junk with Bondo. Some cheap leftover paint and it'll be like it never happened. Not that anyone would give a shit anyway. <<<Fat and happy white-collar suburbanite without aging sheetmetal in my backyard.

As an aviation enthusiast, I've always wanted and been interested in Mooney aircraft, specifically the M20. Recently, I heard that the 60+ year old Texas-based aircraft manufacturer was purchased by Chinese investors earlier in 2014, as well as the storied Continental aircraft engine manufacturer. AVIC also has recently developed China's first commercial aircraft...as well as their own jet engine, reverse-engineered from a GE design. Oh yeah, they also own their own regional airline in China. So, you can say the Chinese government is on a tear... It's exciting to see such investment in the general aviation industry, but in reading the article and watching the unveiling of the "new" Mooney M10, I can't help but see evidence of how we're losing a foothold in many industries where we once led the world. True capitalists will tell you that the Chinese government's support and sponsorship helps it compete unfairly in many global industries, so not much you can do there. I look at it overall as a positive: carbon-fiber development in the industry. I like the idea, but then the fuel system needs an upgrade. However, If you get a combo like that with an A/C compressor, looks like you could have a shop replumb the old system with the new compressor. Would be pimp to put modern R-134 A/C in that bauce.

My Passat is in FL. Still driving, and that alone in that crazy state makes it an easy $1000 sale. Is it Quattro? I can't imagine an AWD Audi would be less than $1000-$1500 if it's a driver.

Alright, alright...Bitter McSandycrotch!!! Geez...we get it. Paul Elio fucked your high-school prom date when you were smoking a Marlboro outside with the cool kids ('cuz all the cool kids...they seem to get it) and now you want REVENGE... Sad to admit that, from my Elio following, even I know they've been talking about using IAV for the 3-cylinder for the last couple of years. This is new in that the pic shows what looks way more like an actual mill (with alternator and A/C compressor) than it ever did before. Kudos to them for that much. Still need to see way more before I think it'll survive, but that's a good step forward...

I have my humidifier set at the highest setting for my house, but with working outside on Cleetus and washing my hands a lot, the fingertips on my right index and middle finger are cracked and typing is noticibly painful. Does anyone have a farm remedy? I guess I should be using lotion. To stop the splits from constantly opening, I've used superglue to quickly bond and allow the skin to heal underneath. Open to suggestions!

I heard on NPR this morning that OSU is making it back to Columbus this afternoon. I'm curious if anyone was going to congratulate them? Do they take a bus all the way back from Dallas, or is there a chartered flight? A couple of buds that went down to Dallas said Southwest was flying dedicated charter flights direct to Dallas and back, and his plane this weekend was packed.

I've driven by OSU Stadium a few times during afternoon/evening away games, and I've often wondered if people would pay to sit in the Horseshoe and watch the away game on the big screen. Yes...you'd need to pay for security/maintenance/janitors, running the A/V equipment and the big screen, and you'd likely have to close off most of the stadium to keep people from going where they shouldn't, but I'd think there would be a few thousand rabid fans that would pay pretty well to not drink, but enjoy the games in the stadium where the Buckeyes play at home.
