WTB: Microsoft laptop for diagnostic software
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Other Stuff
Can someone who knows computers post a couple of good machines for cheap? Sorry, but when I go to MicroCenter’s webpage I click on “Refurbished”, “Clearance”, “Open Box” and I’m looking at $450+ laptops... -
In order to fix a couple of systems on my 2005 Volvo S60, I bought a DICE cable that connects from the OBDII port to a laptop equipped with ViDA (Volvo's diagnostic/system software). However, from an Apple household, I don't have a MS Windows laptop save for my work computer. I need something that can load a CD-ROM (for VIDA) as well as internet access. If this works, I may end up getting a Hilton Stage 1 tune as well (http://www.hiltontuning.com), which would require this laptop also to download and install. If I'm going to live with a turbo AWD car that's an autotragic, I'm damn sure going to make it perform as good as the aftermarket can get it. Trying to keep it cheap, as always (not fancy). LMK what ya got! Thank you!

What did you do for your ride today? (v3.0)

Got H&R's (p/n 51816) shipped from Tire Rack for $322. Got them on Thursday along with new KYB's and mounting hardware and went to town... LOVE the finished look. Tough to see in pics because it's such a fat pig, but the in-person look is great. I squatted down for the pics but at normal viewing angle the wheels/tires tuck in perfectly with 1-2 finger gap. No rubbing. I'm reminded how good aftermarket springs are. These German-made H&Rs were shorter (obvi) than factory springs, but the steel coils are way beefier. Even with sway bar end links disconnected (trashed them in removal...got new ones coming tomorrow) it took bumps really well and just feels flat and solid. The drop was over 1" each end and still hasn't settled. Needs an alignment. Very happy with the crotchfruit transport now...82k miles so plenty of life left, paid off, and will be having fun for years to come. At least now it won't look like every other Odyssey in a UA school parking lot. If you have a minivan, seriously...get lowering springs. Very cheap way to make it look better and handle well for DD duty. -

That's a deal on tint. I'll look at eBay for pre-cut ceramic (non-dye) tint kits for my 2001 Silverado...2 front windows and a non-curved, single pane back window can't be too expensive. -
PA cars are as bad - if not worse - than CLE cars in terms of rust. However, that dark red over gold basketweave wheels looks sikk. The car has a great bite to the exhaust note from his crappy YT video. I'm surprised people are still using CL for car ads, with so much shift to FBM. I will start looking back there for cars as well.

Lovin' dat tint. -
Cool thread to read, as I've only played iRacing a few times but was seriously impressed when I did. My 8-yo son spends much of his non-school time playing Forza 3 and 4. I got him a G920 setup but need to do a chair/wheel mount, and at his skill level I think he'd get a kick out of iRacing.

Funny this thread gets updated the same time Torch shared costs on getting his Chinese electric cart in the USA: https://jalopnik.com/this-is-how-much-buying-the-cheapest-new-car-in-the-wor-1843396488 $930 China car is up to $3,300+ with freight and shipping charges. F*** that noise. Buy local, gentlemen! I would like a cart as well, but with Corona screwing up 2020 I'll be fine cruising in the Lincoln for local trips. Gas is sub-$2/gal anyways.
-
That is a really cool transformation! Not surprisingly, the wheels really make the look. How much range is expected out of a full charge on newer batteries? I know people say to get the gas golf cars, but if you're going on 1-3mile local trips batteries seem like a low maintenance solution.

Planning on coming with my son!

"Trans Temp" - that's plug-n-play? No extra sensors to install, the ECU is already pulling that data? Love those gauges. Surprised your Camaro didn't already have them from the factory, or are those a different year option that you installed? Edit: noticed the "2SS gauge" comment. I remembered seeing that gauge cluster in 5th-gen Camaros but couldn't remember where. -

Getting H&R's. C L O S E. E N O U G H . I ordered new conical lugnuts and hubcentric rings...Wheel Medic put on the lugs but the rings haven't made it in the mail yet. Havent been on the highway but the ride is super smooth. -
4th of July parade in UA is also cancelled...just hasn't been announced yet. Really hoping some of the easing this month won't contribute to COVID numbers...otherwise this summer's gonna be a bummer.

Thanks guys! Just like every other internet warrior I grumbled over staggered offset wheels on a FWD (245/45/20 tires all around, doe) but the offset looks great to me. -

20x8/20x9 Camaro SS wheels on wifey's 2012 Odyssey. #vanlife -
tl:dr.....DL? Edit: I did actually have it playing in the background. This is why we can't have nice things. Too much to unravel here.

Thanks, Steve. Phil - sent you a PM.

Dayton wire wheels for my '79 Lincoln.

I'm looking at a set of wheels in Macomb, MI. They are pretty rare, and I can take them or leave them...but is anyone going up to that area in the next week or so that may have room to haul them back (no tires)? Will pay for the time. Venmo the seller money so it won't be any hassle aside from picking them up. LMK and thanks!

I heard he moved to California...

Very cool that something like this is going on. I had family/project plans yesterday but if they do it again I’ll try to make it out with my son.

HOG ROAST. Cool to know. Any link on that farm and deals? I'm not serious about slaughtering a pig, but it's a very interesting idea as I know hunters/farmers and curious about what it would take to clean a carcass for meat. I've got a chest freezer. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-01/trump-hails-kushner-s-airlift-but-details-of-sales-are-secret?srnd=premium I made the gaslight comment before, but one thing that bothers me most about Trump's "always-winning" campaign of mis-information is how much he campaigned on Transparency, and Draining The Swamp. I realize this is a crisis, but don't f**king tell me that Trump is any better than every other crooked politician: under-the-table deals that line the pockets of his cronies like Kushner.

Apparently Mitch McConnell doesn't think infrastructure investment is an important part of this economic recovery from COVID. Gaslighters gon' gaslight. https://www.forbes.com/sites/williampesek/2020/05/01/china-spends-600-billion-to-trump-americas-economy/#2f0eaa975872 There goes China, proving to the world who's going to dominate industrial capacity and capability for the next 25 years. We're barrelling towards 30 Trillion in debt and China will come out stronger.

That shortage of meat processing employees...i understand, but damn... If you're going to kill that many cows, I've got an 8ft bed on my truck...just tell me where I need to go and I'll take a cow carcass home. I'm no butcher, but I can figure out how to cut away some of the good stuff and dump the rest at SWACO
