  1. I will say that was a great recommendation. I did the #7-then-let-it-sit polish on my old '78 and it's impressive how good the old paint (with some repairs) came out. I've had this '79 for over a month and haven't seen it in the sun yet! Ohio winters LOL Looks like there's a neat metallic to the green paint I'm looking forward to checking out.
  2. The white leather drivers' seat is cracked but not too badly...with dirt in the cracks. I've been watching some YouTube videos on cleaning cracked rubber seats, filling with silicone, and re-dyeing the leather. The rest of the interior is in very good condition - and very green - so getting these white leather seats to pop would really improve the car. Called Jim's Trim Shop - he said that if there's already cracking going on, they don't do any repairs; they're just going to replace the leather. I politely said that's more than I'm willing to do and thanked him for the info. GUESS I'M GOING INTO THE LEATHER REPAIR BUSINESS This will go great......?
  3. EDIT: nvm. Was going to say something but then realize I'm still contributing to the problem.
  4. Interesting that they got a picture of Sully after hearing about the real estate deal...
  5. Got the newsletter for the Arthritis Car Show and they FINALLY switched dates so it's not falling on the same weekend as GoodGuys!!! The show this year is June 27-29th...big show is Saturday, June 29th. That would be 2 weeks away from the GoodGuys weekend so fewer conflicts. If anyone is interested in judging, I've been doing it for the last several years and it's a fun time; the more people you have, the merrier. Lunch and beverages are provided, with additional coupons for a Schmidt's brat and soda at the end. Free T-shirt as well. Let me know if you're interested.
  6. Plates came in. Can’t wait for warmer weather and NO ROAD SALT... Noticed the estate sale tag is still on the windshield
  7. Whew....I don't know how Kerry does it. My fingers hurt.
  8. Hire a property manager. Going rate is 7-10% per month. Mine charges 6%, but she's also a realtor and I've been working with her since 2004. I get the margin that the prop mgr takes, but... - The contractors they get to work on repairs are much faster and cost way less than you doing it on your own (commercial garbage disposals for $160 installed, new dishwashers for $185 installed, etc.) - They keep the place occupied: background/credit checks, marketing, keeping an eye on comps, HANDLES LEGAL CONTRACTS. The first month or two your place isn't rented pretty much negates the prop mgr fee for a year or more. - You don't have to deal with the renters. Once a renter finds out you're the owner, get ready for a phone call everytime a bulb burns out or the cable shuts off. Prop mgr will assist, but communicates the fee schedule for service visits. TRUST ME...your dad lived through hell because renters know the system and will run an owner ragged knowing they have'em by the short and curlies. Definitely get qualified investments working (401(k), IRA) first, but I highly recommend the income and tax-benefits of real-estate investment>>> I make W-2 money at my full-time job, but my CPA verifies my LLC showing a loss every year (despite getting a check every single month from prop mgr) and that is a reduction in my taxable income. TRUMP WARNING: I haven't completed my 2018 taxes thru my CPA yet...up to this year (since 2000) I've never had to pay. Will be curious to see what happens with the tax changes everyone's whining about... Also this. Had a tough time in 2008/9 with a vacant home during winter...glad I didn't go Section 8. The horror stories... Also - I love Derek, and his delicious meat - but don't do private-placement investments in businesses unless there's a clear contract agreed upon regarding what your money would be put to use in the company (i.e. equipment that you could have a lien on, or a specific percentage of shares) with the expectation of repayment...either through ongoing profit-sharing or a planned liquidity event when the business sells assets. Lotta great recommendations. For your friend, I highly recommend engaging: - CPA - Financial Advisor If they have them, make sure there's trust in their abilities and recommendations. If there isn't, that should be your friend's first act is getting both. You should make suggestions to both CPA and FA about what the $50k could do, but you'll get more tailored responses back to your friend on what they SHOULD do from these trusted professionals.
  9. I know Kerry was complaining about GM not making DOHC motors...here's a good example of one. However, the Jalopnik NPOCP article (where the CL link came from) said the GM DOHC's were high-maintenance...curious what common problems they experienced. This one looks to be in really good condition. https://jalopnik.com/at-4-500-would-you-find-this-1991-chevy-lumina-z34-tr-1832722109 I'd love to see the RWL Goodyears on some Bassetts or Soft 8s...too bad about the FWD offset. Maybe some newer Monte Carlo SS wheels blacked out? https://www.hubcaphaven.com/c/336/chevrolet_monte_carlo_wheels_rims.html
  10. https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/cto/d/belmont-1991-lumina-z34-dale-earnhardt/6800618168.html The impressive thing for me as a child of the 80s/90s is this is a Lumina with a stick!
  11. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-19/air-force-wants-eight-upgraded-boeing-fighters-along-with-f-35s?srnd=premium As an A-10 Warthog lover, I'm happy to see refreshed fighter platforms being ordered instead of that stupid F-35. Long live the F/A-18 and F-15 variants! <3
  12. I also LOVE the new XC40s, XC60s, and definitely the XC90s...but the China roots give me pause. I wonder if buying one with 50k on the odo will give you problems??? When I see Chinese cars (Buick Envision, Volvos, Land Rovers) I wonder if they're just really nice-looking lease-specials that won't hold up to 7+ years or 100k miles...or given that so many parts are sourced from China anyway these days if they will hold up. YAAASSS...I see that in front of Nutter's house. Can't believe something that new is literally parked in a front yard with a Wal*Mart "FOR SALE" sign in the window.
  13. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/02/19/ricart-getting-into-the-motorcycle-business-by.amp.html That’s a strong move...especially as H-D is on the ropes. Great time to buy the business.
  14. I think that's "fake news"...comments elude to it being made up.
  15. They are also more complex from an engineering standpoint, as well as considerably bigger packaging in an engine bay. They also did the "Shortstar" 3.5L DOHC V6 in the late 90s/early 2000s as well as some DOHC V6's in the Z24/Luminas in the early/mid 90s...
  16. Ford just made a 7.3L gas engine for their HD trucks. Brand new in 2020...with pushrods. Different engine configurations for different purposes. LS does well on a balance of complexity/packaging/cost. Ford's got some screamer DOHC V8s, and more power to them as well!
  17. LS7-based DOHC 750hp 8,000rpms :megusta: http://roadstershop.com/engines/mercury-racing-sb4-dohc/
  18. It is amazing that barn-find cars like that are still being discovered… Even in major population centers.
  19. https://jalopnik.com/americas-car-loan-debt-is-out-of-control-and-getting-wo-1832635925 This topic's been debated enough, but I'm interested in the progression of auto-loan debt numbers and whether the 90+day delinquency percentage (2.5%). I'm curious in the loan growth relative to wage growth...assuming the complaints come from loans being higher. Though, this graph isn't looking good: The comments are interesting as well, regarding NHTSA standards (and global ones) making more expensive safety measurements a requirement on most vehicles. If cheaper, third-world/global car platforms were available for sale, would we be having the same financial issues? Drive a Tata Nano around your city for a few years, scrap it when it dies... EDIT: To be clear, I have used this thread to transition the conversation away from the specialized car market to increasing, "gen-pop" consumer debt levels around car loans.
  20. What's the Howard Stern mic setup for? You doing podcasts?
  21. Agreed, sorry to hear about your dad, Andrew - love the updates to the Gremlin! The header clearance looks like it ain't gonna work...any thoughts on different exhaust routing/options or are you going to have to clearance things?
  22. Dirty... SHINY. Got historical tags...renews in 2050. Happy Valentine's Day, lovers! <3
  23. It's time to play everyone's favorite game!!! Michelin. That's it...just "Michelin". Made in Spain Whitewall, about 1" DOT H1TW 993x227 225 - 15 These are on my '79 Lincoln. If they're not originals, they look damn old. Dryrot cracking between the treads. I can't believe that any combination of DOT H1TW and 993x227 breaks Google. No results.
