my advice is spend some extra money (oh lord not extra money) and have a good machinist assemble the short block the most likely canidate would be whoever you have balance the reciprocating assembly. I'm not going to recomend a shop becuase everyone has a favorite do some research and the pick the one that best suits your application you'll be far happier with the results of your project.
good luck !
I've had tons of cars scince
lets see I had the buick and the dakota when I joined up
sometimes the buick runs sometimes it doesn't
the V6 dakota ended up with a 175 shot and a ton of other crap on it before it ate the tranny and I got rid of it
I've had a chevette that I sold to a guy on here and the driver seat fell through the floor on the freeway
I converted a 94 na auto shadow to turbo 5spd and was running 35 psi of non intercooled boost before the cylinder pressure smashed the pistons like empty beer cans that motor got a rebuild then the car cuaght on fire on the break in test drive so I sold it for a contour that never ran and got traded away for the sunbird
picked up a taxi yellow t-bird with no motor and dropped in a 2000 gt40-p that I'm attemtping to let go for parts for 700 bucks (call me you can hear it run or drive it before you buy )
my daily is a 94 sunbird its got about 50 hp but it gets good mileage
the buick now sports 4 wheel disc brakes fuel injection and thousands of hours and dollars of nickle and dime old car restoration crap its on motor number four and tranny number 5 the current combo is twin turbo efi small block chevy th 400 in front off a custom aluminum driveshaft and a HD 8.5 10 bolt with bolt in axels and 3.73 gears watch for me to be making shakedown passes on a country road near you on dry winter days
I'm sure I've left some out
by gut I mean chop up into little pieces for scrap I just want the 8.8 4.30 gears maybe we can trade centersections mine is a 3.55 and I have a trac-loc for it
this going to sound kind of dumb but what kind of shape is the battery in?
the t-bird I'm building didn't run too good with a weak battery in it.
I can hook it up to a scanner for you at work if you want it watches all the sensor values in realtime and has limited datalogging abilities
you better work on affording that suspension repair first.....
I have a pile of rochester 4bbls over here collecting dust that will prolly never sit on a motor I own ever again unless I do a 100 point restoration on my car someday.
intakes heads and all sorts of other parts too but its all big block buick specific
there is no reason to ever change the supercharger oil it only needs topped off, it should be checked every oil change. you can get your first motor oil change done at the dealer for free sometimes call them and see what they say. if not bring it by firestone we change it with semi synthetic cheaper than you can buy the stuff and do it at home.
yep check for vacum or boost leak, also take a look at the distribustor and make sure it isn't coming apart, when you put the cam in did you degree it or just throw it in on the stock timing marks? does the car use a knock sensor?
the epa average fuel economy is wildly inaccurate most of the time
give it till 10k or so to see the real fuel mileage
anything over 20 with that motor is pretty good
all these mustangs and fords on here and no one needs a gt-40 motor and an AOD if you don't want the whole car but just the engine and trans hit me up I will let you here it run and then pull it and get rid of the car you I'm easy to deal with on this
not in that thing prolly has platinum or iridium plugs that cost 10 bucks a piece or something....
like derek said bring it by if he can't look at it I can we'll get it taken care of
your car is going to continue to eat 4l60's they just don't hold up long term put a 400 in it instead of dumping ten tons of money into that 4spd again.
that turbo is a little small for a single but if you give it a twin its good to go
we might have to have a little buick versus pontiac rematch in norwalk in the spring
good luck with that thing I feel sorry for people who have to work on the ground now that I'm all spoiled at firestone....
