I have thought about it, but I really wanted to keep it carb'd for simplicity and the classic look and wasn't sure if I wanted to go through that with an LS1. It's definitely and option though. Hmm, what to do, what to do. Aren't LS1's expensive to mod compared to older small blocks that I'm considering? I mean I guess I could just leave the engine stock and spray it if needed to attain my hp goals, but I heard that the older SBC's flowed better or reacted better to mods, but maybe that was a specific block or something, I can't remember. Matt/Tinman uses a sbc, maybe I'll pick him about his setup, because I know he has good power.

AJ, here's what I found out... here are the cam specs Advertised Duration : 262°/268° Duration @ .050 IN/EX : 219°/227° Gross Valve lift IN/EX .468''/.489'' LSA and ICL 112/108 RPM Range: 1400-5800 it has 11:1 compression, cast crank, Hypereutectic pistons, and cast rods That help any...

I remembered talking with you about yours, but I've already got one step weaker with a bottom end out of a 95 gt, so its not forged anything. But what's it put down OFF the bottle? Honestly I like spray and all, but I'd much rather have 50 or 100 less rwhp NA and be competitive, than having to NEED a 175 shot to put down 500whp.
-
Thanks AJ, what do you think that motor I listed above would put down as is? And what about with a good set of heads? I guess I was only saying spray if I couldn't get what I wanted NA, like 450+whp, or if it was just cheaper yet the block could handle it.
-
Oh and it'll probably just get hit with a healthy dose of spray if I feel the need, but again, I want to build it for that extra hit.

Rob, do you know much about cheby's? What do you think of this motor? "For sale fresh built chevy 383 stroker, bored 40 over, pro speed poly .010 domed pistons, weight balance eagle 5.7 rods, scat stroker crank, stock chevy heads with 1.94 intake valves, and 1.6 exhaust valves, double roller timing chain, edelbrock performer rpm intake, holley 650 carb, crane pushrods, lunati voodoo cam 489 intake lift 504 exhaust lift, 268 intake duration, 276 exhaust duration, the only thing that is missing is the rocker arms. like i said this is a fresh built motor, 0 miles. asking $1200.00 obo." What would that with a good set of heads make power wise? Or even just a bolt on 350, heads, cam, roller shit, etc etc. Do they flow better than my 302?

I'm not saying I want to stay NA, but if and when I want more power, I'd like to be able to get it out of my built motor. As far as I know, the 302 block can't handle 500whp, and I guess I'm not sure about the 351w's, but I thought I read somewhere they were similar. That's why I'm asking, I wasn't sure, nor do I know anything about chevy motors and there limits. I may never go for, 500 or 600 hp, but damnit if I'm going to full build an engine, I don't want to waste my time and money on something that will not even hold 500whp without worry. And I do agree, 500whp is probably more than I think it is, but I'm not ready to drop $5k or whatever and NOT have the availability to push that much power. Thanks guys

I'm looking into building a motor, but I'm not too happy that my 302 block can't handle much power at all. So therefore I'm thinking about other small blocks, ford and chevy. I've noticed parts and everything are much more abundant it seems for chevy's. So basically I need to know a few things... Bang for buck, which is cheaper? What small block chevy motors are there, and what are the capable of? Same for the ford, I've only considered the 302/351w, but have looked at stroker kits. *Two things to keep in mind, both will be carbed, and I'm not TOO concerned with driveability, etc, I mean its not going to be a daily, or anything close, but at the same time I don't want a headache. I'd like 400-500 whp NA, and possibly 600-700 with a blower or spray. But I don't just want an engine capable of that, I want it to be fairly safe with at least 550whp in mind. As well as offering advice on which way to go, can anyone recommend forums and parts sites to research the chevy stuff? I'm fairly confident on my sbf info so I'm exploring other possibilies. Thanks
-
Isn't it supposed to be your daily? Don't have two project cars man...
-
say no to the supra, too heavy, i had an 89 and they weigh like 3500+ lbs, 80 v8 camaro's and foxbodies are good ideas, i'm building a sbf now. or a dsm, i know of an awd turbo auto, like a 92 for $500, runs and drives, but just needs little tlc. lmk if you're interested.
-
Pay off your other cars negative equity first man!! damn, but if you insist on going more into debt...there are a million cars you can buy for $2000 initially, you didn't say how much you plan to spend on the car in order to acheive said goals though. If you only want to buy a car for $2000 or less, and spend another $500-$1000, get a dsm awd turbo, but if you want to buy a car for $2000 and spend $5000, get something v8 rwd. or why not just buy a nice sport bike, a 600 will be more than fast enough for you.

Thanks man, I'm finally getting somewhere and it feels great. Wanna run this summer, I know you've got a healthy project yourself. :grin2:

Where was it assembled/machined? What power should this put down?

Here's a few pictures of my winter project, there's been a TON of time spent on parts trips, researching online, and buying stuff, but my dad and I got it a roller tonight in a little over an hour. The plan is to build it twice, once to get it all togther, see where I need to add mounts, etc, and develop/build my roll cage once everything in place, then tear it back apart and make it pretty. So just keep that in mind when viewing these pictures and also realize I HAVE NOT bought a kit, or anything related, even my frame was in like 10 different pieces with I tacked together, and with the help of Matt, aka Tinman, he's welded it and will be doing my cage in the next few weeks. Onto the pics... My frame in work http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t124/BAM614_Cobra/IMG_3044.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t124/BAM614_Cobra/IMG_3045.jpg My body when it gets to that point, it was uber cheap, not my favorite color scheme, but when the entire thing, painted, in good shape, was about the same cost as the paint MATERIALS, i'll survive for awhile... little blurry sorry http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t124/BAM614_Cobra/IMG_3047.jpg Haters will hate, but anyone that has any grasp of what I'm doing will love it.

I'm going with carb on my build, and like you mentioned, those 3 possible negatives have no effect on me. But can you turbo a carb'd car Nate?
-
hmm, well he was asking $2500, i got him to $2k, should I try and get it cheaper? he did say it needed a few things...

What's a 95 GSXR 750 with 25k on the frame and supposedly 5k miles on the engine worth? The guy says it needs TLC and could use the carb cleaned but runs strong. Clean title and it looks cool in the pics. thanks man
-
Hmm, on the box it says DVD +/- R/RW, double layer and a bunch of other jibberish, those words jumped out at me because you asked about them, but I didn't see the lightscribe thing.
-
right on man, pm me your number again, i doubt i still have it. it'll probably be one day next week because i work all day tomorrow, you still work nights?
-
What are some local shop, prefer performance I think, that are familar with GSXR's and could just do a check up on it for me before I buy it, basically a once over. Thanks
-
Yes, they are about as aerodynamic as a brick, I agree and know very well. I don't plan on going 150+, I'm fine with digs, or low low rolls, like 10, 20, etc rolls, and I think a 20-120 or 140 would be more than enough time to prove a car. I'm not building the fastest car out there, but it'll be fast enough for me and even though I've gone 150+ in cars, that's not what this car is about. I wish I could afford the Coupe or even the GTM, 2100lbs, ls7, 0-60 in 3.1 seconds, that's hot, but not within my reach.
-
Exactly what I'm saying, all the haters don't understand the whole power to weight ratio side of things, they're all like, 400wheel......pussy. Just wait, I'm sure it'll surprise its fair share.

65 Shelby kit car, :grin2: It'll weigh less come June if I can afford it.
