Yeah I think harbor freight is going through the same growing pains craftsman did back in the day.
-
That's the labeling typically, not the actual manufacturer. Most manufacturing is in china now anyway, but there are a handful of US toolmakers left.
-
That's pretty compelling. I'd like to see someone do a side by side disassemble to compare the parts and assemblies in the two jacks. Testing them side by side to destruction would be pretty interesting as well.
In the metals industry, it was always fairly common knowledge that there are only a few actual tool makers in the world so this isn't a surprise to me at all.
A big one used to be Danaher

They used to be the force behind craftsman, don't think they are anymore though.

The new icon line stuff I have used seems like just straight copies of Snap-on.
I’ll leave this here.

On March 2, 2016, Sports Authority filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but the case was converted to Chapter 7 a few months later. On May 18, 2016, the company's stores were sold to a group of liquidators and on May 25, CEO Michael Foss announced that all of the stores would close by the end of August 2016.[4][5] On June 30, 2016, Dick's Sporting Goods won the auction for Sports Authority's brand name and intellectual property.[6]On July 15, 2016, the online store closed operations, redirecting users to the Dick's Sporting Goods website.[7] On July 21, 2016, the purchase of Sports Authority's intellectual property by rival Dick's Sporting Goods was approved.

Yeah, i'm still digging the ERL mostly but there are a few things I can't get it to do or work right. I got this thing like forever ago and it mostly sat on a shelf but i'm over consumer routers as they never seem to last me more than a year if i'm lucky.
I got the pfSense unit set up but I haven't tried it out yet. Mainly just installed it and set the IP so I could poke around the web config page. Aside from that it's been sitting on my desk esiting for the ERL to piss me off again, lol.
-
I've been trying to scrounge up an ER4 but OOS or tater prices everywhere. I like the ubiquiti line but am also having issues with port blocking. Any good tutorials there? Tried the site help and when I applied, it locked down ALL traffic so i'm a tard.
-
Probably going to put together a pfSense box or configure a Cisco router to take it's place, then I'm going to punt this piece of shit into the ocean.
Just got my pfSense unit and installed the latest pfSense, it's up next and we'll see how it compares. If it can handle the task, i'm also going to punt my ERL.

Not that i'm aware of or have read about anywhere, but I haven't search that much.

Dealer searches can sometimes find hidden gems.
-
Do you even doze bro? just kidding, killer rig.
-
If I could find one "in stock" I would give that dealer first crack at doing just this. If not, I will likely check around locally with what I want and see who will deal.
You’d be surprised what kind of strings they can pull when they have a “for sure” sale on the horizon. Doesn’t hurt to ask or try, just sayin.
-
When I shopped for my old wrangler I started calling dealers and told them I had supplier pricing and was looking for a dealer to beat it. Most brushed me off but one called me back and said no problem, we can do it. Sure enough I talked to them, they were very helpful and I ended up buying it. Just reach out, be honest and see what they say. Some will come back with BS but you’ll pick it up right away but many know if you have supplier pricing you don’t want back and forth BS so they cut to the chase and tell you no or tell you what they can do.
-
Fixed thus far. Did a reset and reconfigured. Took me two tries but it seems to be back. Still having some config issues with port blocking and etc. but i'll hopefully work them out and not muck it up again.

Some people are just cray cray

Just ran a speedtest, CPU pegs at 100% on 91Mbps download so there has to be a config setting i'm overlooking somewhere.
Finally got my goal in the shitbox
