If the OP has a Linksys he can install DD-WRT and clone his external facing MAC Address. Assuming he doesn't duplicate an existing MAC Address/someone doesn't duplicate his made up MAC Address/He doesn't use an Invalid MAC Address (All 0's) then he should be able to get an IP, since the DHCP server won't have an IP Address bound to his new/made up MAC Address.

No they won't. It isn't something some stupid CSR can do. The best way to get a new IP is to unplug your modem for the night. When you go to bed - unplug your modem - when you wake it up plug it back in, and you should have a new IP address.

Most ISP's do not supply Static IP Space. It is DHCP space with a long lease time.

You also have to understand that some CSR over the phone is only a best guess. Adelphia used to run that area out of Canan...it is shit plant. It is only 550mhz plant. We don't need to upgrade our plant to Turbo Speed - that is changing values in a file. We don't even need to upgrade our plant to support Docsis 3.0 - just get rid of old analog channels. We will eventually make the investment out there - it is project number 9,999 of 10,000. Providing service to an additional 20-50 people at the cost it will take is not number 1 priority by any means.

The real issue is that was an Adelphia area out there - and Adelphia never upgraded their plant in that area past 550mhz. Ask Joe - you need 750 to run HSD. So for us to build out to that area or upgrade it - it will cost well northbound of $100,000. Does it make much business sense to invest 100k into an area where the return for the next 20 years may never hit that? We build out our plant to pass 30 houses per node, maybe. Not worth it. There is a reason rural areas don't have broadband - it costs too much to build the infrastructure to support it. Though as the consumer - you never see nor care about that figure, you just expect a company to lose money to provide you service.

Once we have mined and used all the metals these manufacturers will have to turn to people who own the metals and buy metal from us. When you think about it - Silver is the most electrical conductive ELEMENT out there, and the most thermal conductive METAL. What that means is silver exists in almost all of your electronic devices (Computers, Fridges, TV's, etc....) Only what 1/10 of the world population currently has the ability to purchase these items? what happens when the rest of India and China go through their industrial revolution, and they need all these devices - how much silver will be left after that?

Where are you buying bars from? In all honesty if you aren't buying them from Apmex or someone who puts serial numbers on them that you can call them and verify they are sketchy. I have seen plenty of people get burned on buying bars. People use a heavy metal (lead) and coat it with 3-4 coats of silver. I have been buying silver for 6-8 years now. It really is one of the best ways to protect yourself. If paper money ceases to exist - we go back into a barter system, where metals rule all.
