+1, it sounds like he wants it for a kart anyway. If that's the case, some money spent on getting more torque is well spent since newer motors don't do all that much better in that department anyway.

Looking for computer websites for good deals
jeffmeden replied to Rustlestiltskin's topic in Dumpster
Once you know, you newegg. The keyword being *once*. If you aren't computer savvy and don't really want to be, then you should get a dell. Don't let anyone tell you they don't make solid computers, and if you browse a site like fatwallet or slickdeals every few days til something particularly good comes along, you can get a heck of a deal on a complete system, and never have to learn the difference between DDR and DDR2. On the other hand if you do want to learn what it takes to build your own, then newegg.com is the only site you need. -
Wow, now I don't feel so bad dropping ~200 a year on 3xCar 1xBike. The only thing that really gets me is that my money is going to those construction workers I always see holding up shovels and making a muddy mess for me to drive through.

IMDB has a collection of user-submitted quotes from the movie, like a few of the monologues including his uber-alliteration from early in the movie (i think that's the one youre referring to). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434409/quotes

What do you do? Start an oil company! When there is a strongly demand driven market the difficulty of entry is greatly reduced since there is such a huge profit margin assumed with each unit sold. Its like if corn all of a sudden started selling for 3 times what it was... everyone would start farming again since it will make way more money than it did before. Sooo, Anyone got an oil well in their back yard?

It looks like expertsexchange.com got released for the much preferred experts-exchange.com. Fwiw I have also used that site many times and altho the ads are annoying they never require you to pay to see the full discussion.

LOL! You had me going too... But according to the CIA (in case anyone is curious like me), there are actually 295M Americans, only 35M of which are retirement age (over 65) and 60M are below working age (under 16), and the labor force including those actively seeking jobs is 150M. This leaves 50M people who are in the legit range but are not holding or seeking a job. Tell those guys to get off their assets!

It's next friday! I am going to be there tonight with my 'crew', probably around 7:30 or 8. Anyone else in? This time i will be bringing my good camera, maybe there will be another clown there that roaches his exhaust trying to do a burnout?

Detaching all the unessentials is the best way to start. After that, follow the power. Meaning, the mobo is more likely to get toasted than the CPU. If possible, listen for diagnostic beeps or clicks, if you don't hear anything then its probably the mobo itself that went. I have seen some godawful stuff happen to mobos with a perfectly fine CPU. Edit: I should also bring up how good of an idea it is to have a decent UPS protecting your hardware. Passive surge protectors are almost useless considering how sensitive most computers are. Find a slickdeal on a cheap UPS from bestbuy or microcenter, or if you want to really invest in some protection let me know and I can show you some hot deals on ebay.

Just in case anyone is following this thread more than the stories all over the net: Latest news is they found the (allegedly) stolen laptop, some random guy turned it in. They think the info was safe on it and had not been copied. In my opinion however, it isn't worth the risk to assume it's OK, and anyone in the VA database should keep a very careful eye on their credit record and other personal data.

Do you guys ever go to bike night at iron pony? I was thinking about heading down there to check it out and then cruising around. Any thoughts? Looks like a good night to do just about anything.

The engine has about 40k on the rebuild, I see no reason to scrap it. I could definitely do worse from junkyard fare. As for the transmission, I have yet to hear from another person who welded their pin that it later snapped. Regardless, from the style of your responses I am guessing this is going to be more hassle than it's worth. I think I'm just gonna plug the oil leak, put it together and send it out the door.
-
The diff pin in these transmissions is known for shaking loose and dropping out of the carrier, so welding in place is suggested as a fix and many people have had it done to their cars. The motor is a long story. It's not the original internals, they were cobbled together from new and used parts after the previous ones got chewed up, so it's got a little bit of a shake to it. I am adding a new flywheel during this as well, so I would like to take the opportunity to get it balanced to try to get it as smooth as possible.
-
I have a cheap old saturn SC2 I am fixing up so I can sell it. The engine and transmission are in good shape but not perfect, a little out of balance it seems and the transmission has a notorious problem with the diff pin that i would like to fix before it causes a failure. Who in the central ohio area could I trust to do such precious work? rofl All i want is a balance job on the motor, and a weld put on the diff pin on the transmission so I can put it together and sell it with a clear conscience. Anyone know a shop (or shops) that won't rip me off? TIA edit: i forgot to mention it's all out of the car, I just need to know where to take it for the work.

Man allegedly in al-Qaida plot to bomb mall in Ohio

I hate to get in on this but nothing stopped anyone else so now my .02 The best defense against having a shitty country isnt holding a gun or closing a border. Its getting information, good information, and acting with it. What comes first on the bill of rights? Free speech, religion, press, assembly, and bitching at the gov't. People have to know what the government is up to in order to be pissed enough to not want it to happen. Instead, every major news source spends 5 days straight covering nothing but a dead guy, who a good portion of the public didnt even like that much. Did iraq dissapear when he flat-lined? Certain people in power hope so. Good news -> informed citizens -> informed decisions. People who claim erosion of rights is leading to the downfall of america need to get with the times. The world is WAY too big to have the attitude of 'do whatever you want, wherever you want, and we wont bother you til after you kill somebody'. Let the FBI arrest whoever they like. If theyre innocent, they will be freed. Having a nation of informed, able minded citizens is by far a better defense for the US, as opposed to simply whining every time it gets easier for someone to be investigated by the feds. Moral of the story, demand good information, encourage others to do the same, and act sensibly on it! thanks for reading -jeff -
Is the dyno up and running? I know its not supposed to be available the day of the gathering but im wondering if anyones got numbers off it yet, like the purple evo you guys have been working on?
-
Aren't they all franchised? Meaning someone has to have the $ and the time and the want for one here in cols cause they think it will make money. If youre so sure people will be all over it, then get started :-p Jeff

Yeah, the VR4 and Stealth TT had it, and its best used for highway maneuvering. The rear tires turn the same direction as the front, up to 1.5 degrees when past 40mph. Basically it lets you turn the direction of the car without putting rotational momentum into the car itself, hence more stable low angle turns at high speeds. Its useless for hard turns, and at low speeds it doesnt activate at all. You can feel it in the car's high speed stability, no advantages besides that though (and it costs a lot of weight :-\ ). Anybody see that mercedes benz concept roadster (i think it was anyway) on Nova that show with the mash guy, a few days ago on OSU-TV. Anyway it had all wheel active camber that angled into the turn as the car cornered, freakin sweet!
-
Yeah the FWD thing sucks, but if you want a really nice daily driver that has a bit of go these are great cars. A friend of has one and im 100% impressed, well built well rounded cars, nothing for the track but very fun cars.

It seems like anyone on campus who has something worth stealing, gets it stolen within a few months. Anyone live on campus with a nice car and NOT get their gear jacked? I know 3 ppl with nice cars and all have had one or more breakins. campus -> *** suck for nice stuff! jeff

finicky as in the solenoid sticks or the screen gets too cold to use? and a q for everyone... the blitz SBC is advertised as being 'sequential' and 'dual' i assume those mean that it can vary boost and uses two solenoids to control the WG actuators... are those two important things when picking a good one?
-
What would you guys reccomend as a good boost controller for a twin turbo VR-4? Ive been looking at the blitz dsbc i-d because i already have the matching powermeter i-d, but if theres a better performing unit id sooner go with that. Any tips? thanks much Jeff

well hes got my money and according to him RPS has my order so unless its all just a big fantasy im kind of in the middle of it now... do you have a RPS sprung hub MAX clutch for a 92 vr-4 in stock? jeff
-
lol now you tell me... its a done deal, they dropped the order to RPS and its up to them now. jeff
-
Yeah i decided to go with the RPS MAX, heard a lot of good things on line and found a sprung hub for 560 at WOT motorsports... now the only thing to iron out is putting it in... heheh (btw, the guys at WOTM said they have to fab each one at RPS, and it will take 2 weeks to be ready for me... is that normal?)
