Why not use the cab as the rear plane of the box? You could build a triangular box that plays well with the rear of the seat. I would use 3/4" MDF, silicone coking to link the box to the cab and floor, and packing/dynomat on the metal to reduce rattles.

What people should be arguing is BMEP - which factors in torque output and displacement. I used the wrong wording and didn't mean to single you out, but this is one of the first generations of engines from the general that has capable engine & powertrain management, components, design, etc. It would be nice if say the Camaro had an SS option including a derivation of the new FI 8 that was just as competely priced as the Cobra was. To put that into engineering perspective, thats roughly 20bar BMEP. An EvoX, from the factory, is rated at 25.5bar. Some food for thought....

They're very impressive, but I wouldn't throw GM under a bus just yet once the aftermarket community sinks their teeth into the new generation of engines & powertrain designed with power (via forced induction) in mind.

I had a very similar question about alcohol based fuels when I started learning about them; Here's my take on their effect on operating temperature... The latent heat of vaporization (Lv) of regular ethyl alcohol is quite a bit higher than gasoline. (~840 vs ~350 kJ/kg). E85 is roughly 770 kJ/kg? The amount of fuel being used also has an effect. Keep in mind, the units are energy per unit, in our case, heat energy removed per kilogram of fuel... aka, air fuel ratio... Knowing the AFR, which is lower with E85, you can speculate an even larger potential of kJ per kg of air. You could say that latent heat vaporization and it's relation to AFR is Lv/AFR. Now, the reduction of temp in the air charge is then determined from the specific heat of air (~1 kJ/kg-C). So in general, DeltaT = Lv/(specific_heat*AFR). I Think Heywood cites 80% or more of the injected fuel mass evaporates during the intake stroke, and the remainder during the compression stroke. So with the initial cylinder temps being that much lower, temps throughout the rest of the cycle will also be lower by about that amount. Hope this shines some light... -

To compliment what Phil's said, OEM's are stepping up their game to keep their costs (warranty) down. BMW, Audi, VW, etc all have 'tripwires' built in to the engine control systen(s) to help prevent the use of external devices. BMW has taken it the the extreme by using RSA (military grade) encyption to prevent reverse engneering. The false sense of security thinking that factory calibrations are just 'rich' without reason won't be there much longer. Every calibration is becoming both energy conscious and environmental friendly. In short, leave it alone.

The two larger dangers associated but not often mentioned: (a) ethanol doesn't play well between dissimilar metals and (b) ethanol can contain larger amounts of water, possibly speeding/causing corrosion to penetrable metals. Regarding contact with rubber, very few manufacturers use natural rubber (post 1985) when DOT/EPA/etc standardized 10% Ethanol compatibility. Most orings, gaskets, etc won't degrade but rather swell. Delphi was having huge issues with this in their FFV's fuel pumps: the seals would expand causing all of tolerances to be off, pump still functions, but doesn't pump anything. I think it's wise for automakers to be cautious (there are saftey issues with alcohol based fuels vs gasoline), but haven't heard of anyone whose ride exploded when refueling or when on the road. Personally, I see it is a poor man's race fuel. I've had great results with it on my own and clients' cars. -
Most modern day OEM's are watercooled; believe it or not, there's such thing as 'thermal syphering' that will literally suck the heat into the return side of the cooling system, even when the fluid sits stagnet. Join your make/model's respective forum, check to see if anything got past QA, if not, follow the instructions (the advice in the previous posts may be in there)

I think anyone who has been around the gun community understands and is embarrassed that such an out of touch ban could be put into play. If you think I'm suggesting melting down some of my favorite guns, rest assured, I'm not. Regarding the LA Bank shooting, unless your carry comes in a caliber that can pierce makeshift Kevlar and homemade SAPI plates - you'll be nothing more to the situation then another chalk outline. Men this crazy, deserve someone well trained on a long barrel. The interesting thing about the men involved, they were caught speeding with a bunch of well, questionable items in the car prior. Not even 100 days in jail, everything returned to them afterwords -- doesn't that make you think? I'm not saying I'm cutting the ribbon that's going to end all criminal activity in the world, but I think there's a collection of things that can be done to help prevent and reduce the chances of civilians having to weigh the stigma of discharging their sidearm. I have some hope, since we aren't walking around town in full kevlar, M4s, etc that although the system isn't 100% perfect, it can further be refined.
