Like I said above, I DO AGREE that a cage is safer in the event of a rollover. HOWEVER, I think the factory safety stuff is still FAR better than what used to be out there. Combine that with the fact that I rarely ever see GTRs end up in rollover. Even the (many) guys that have went into spins in excess of 200 MPH, the car has stayed on 4 wheels. And I'm not even planning on going 200 MPH, I'm talking about going 140 (in the 1/4 mile) I'm a numbers guy... so it boils down to odds. The odds of me getting into an accident on the street are FAR greater than my odds of rolling on the track. I merely want to be able to make that choice myself. Now I am in HUGE favor of safety rules that are meant for keeping everyone else safe. So I am happy to have my car "tech'd in" to assure I'm not putting anyone else in danger by having leaking fluids etc. -

No, I don't think every fall off a bike results in serious injuries or death. I also don't think wrecking a non caged car at a track results in serious injury or death every time either. That's my point. Define competition? Under today's NHRA and IHRA rules I can't even make a solo (no one in the other lane) pass at a track rental. -

This is a subject I'm personally torn on... for a few reasons. 1.) Making a street car a race car. - Is a car with a cage ON THE TRACK safer than a car without a cage ON THE TRACK? Well yeah, assuming you have all the other safety equipment like a helmet and proper harnesses. Now the opposite side of that equation is: A caged car on the street, with occupants who are not wearing helmets and harnesses is indeed MORE DANGEROUS than a car without a cage. So, why on earth would I risk MY PASSENGER'S lives (more than likely my children) on the street over my own life on the track. Especially considering that most of our cars spend 99% of the time on the street and 1% of the time on the track. Which brings me to... 2.) Why the fuck are we, as a society, OK with some risks and not others? We are OK with people racing motorcyles, we are OK with people sky diving, we are NOT OK with people racing their own car, at a track without a cage?? We say we want racing off the streets. If someone is racing on the street it's pretty safe to assume it's a STREET CAR. So guys try to do the right thing and bring it to the track, only to be told to turn their street car into a RACE CAR by caging the shit out of it. #3.) All car's are not equal. When I had my Cobra (that ran 11s) it was a scary ass ride. Had I kept that car, it would have got a cage, and I wouldn't have driven it on the street after that. A lot of these newer AWD cars on the other hand, can run 9s effortlessly. Much more stable at speed, much better brakes, bigger tires, 6 airbags, and AWD to make sure you aren't spinning tires down the back half of the track. Now, it's not that I think safety in REAL racing is bad. If the car lives on the track, it should be built accordingly. But technology has advanced to the point where street cars now are as fast as race cars were when most of these "rules" were written. I'm going to let you take my car down the strip next track day. If you don't hop out with a changed outlook on the above statement, I would be very surprised. -
My oldest boy (11 year old league age) plays travel baseball. The younger two (league ages 10 and 9) do not. All three play local rec (little league) I've come to find there are a few different forms of travel teams. 1.) A group of rec kids start traveling together to get better. Usually the coaching staff are dads. The costs involved in this are pretty reasonable. Add up uniforms, tournament entry fees, and some random stuff. Divide that by the number of players and you have a total. I think our total this year was something like $600 per kid for the whole season. We also did some fund raising, so each parent only had to come up with like $200. 2.) Teams that exist to make a profit. Usually the coach played in the minors, or D1 ball. Families pay thousands per year per kid. Part of that money goes uniforms and entries, and the rest pay the coaches for their time. I will say that when we watch them play Rec I see a pretty huge difference in talent between the kids that do only rec, and the kids that do both. The reasoning seems two fold. Firstly, most of the kids that are good are good because they love the sport. So naturally they would gravitate to any way to play more games. The additional reps against comparable competition that travel offers also helps some (although it's not magic.. take a kids natural ability + the amount of time they put into getting better = how good they are) There are parents that justify the time and costs by thinking little Johnny will land a scholarship because of what he does traveling as a pre-teen. I personally think that notion is laughable. If the kid REALLY loves the sport, and if you can find a group of people running the team as an "extended family" then I say go for it. If all you can find is "for profit" teams, or the kid just plays the sport casually... I would stick with Rec. I also agree with the above thinking, that the kids have a lot more to gain out of organized sports than just the physical aspect.

It's not really a question of "if" when referring to a referee's ability to fix a game. Hell, an NBA Ref served prison time for exactly that. Can they control the game and outcome 100% of the time? No, ofcoarse not. But they can alter the results in their favor north of 75% of the time. If you put a team into bonus earlier than they should be, then call the iffy fouls that happen on every play, all of a sudden you have the ability to add undeserved points and affect the momentum. I don't believe that anyone is "in on it" outside of big time NBA brass. These guys aren't calling refs and telling them to fix games. They are looking at historical records when these refs are in the close games, and figuring out what teams they secretly favor. It really doesn't take rocket science to figure it out. Look up the Warriors playoff record with and without Scott Foster officiating.

This is my problem with the idea. According to this statement, pretty much the only thing you are bringing to the table is "the money". If this particular franchise purchase was going to be as profitable as they make it out... why aren't other franchise owners chomping at the bit for this new opportunity. This is my litmus test on whether to open a new business: 1.) Am I the first to offer this sort of business 2.) Can I do this business better than anyone else (ie. smarter, harder working) 3.) Do I have more money than anyone else in this business which allows me to do things my competitors can't If I can't answer yes to one of those three,... I just can't see the point.

IMO owning a franchise is the WORST of both worlds. The only people I know who "happily" own franchises, own portfolios full of them. They are mega rich and each one is merely an investment. None of the individual franchises make them "loads" of money, but they also don't require 24/7 oversight or intervention and they still outpace normal market returns. Franchises still have a lot of the corporate problems that most entrepreneurs are trying to escape. Do the math on how much the franchise will cost you over the next 30 years. In that "cost" you should include: - up front franchise fee - annual franchise fees - additional franchise fees assessed on gross receipts - additional costs incurred from having to source X supplies or advertising from franchise instead of on the open market. Once you have that total (in the millions) ask yourself if whatever they are bringing to the table (name recognition, discounts on supplies, etc) justifies the heavy price tag.

I thought he had some sort of business getting people birth certificates and passports (legally). And he was some majorly ranked air hockey champ. (Although I'm not sure how much the air hockey stuff paid) I could have been wrong though. None the less, the dude has some bad ass rides. His FGT with gold plated engine bay is bad ass too.

I typed a few responses, and they never came out the way I intended. So I trimmed it down to just this: It's up to the shops to be competent enough to do the installs, tunes, etc. But that doesn't make them better than Nissans engineers. If anything it makes Dodson, Manley, Injector Dynamics, Garrett, and other engineers better than Nissan. In reality.. They aren't "better". They just aren't stuck inside the same restraints as Nissan in many facets, including but not limited to: budget, mass availability, emission compliance, contract negotiations, etc. I'm not arguing to argue. I'm not even trying to talk Dover into the car at this point. I'm just trying to clear up some common misconceptions. I've driven well over 30 GTRs. Everything from bone stock up to 1400hp. I would personally trust this car more than a full bolt on GTR as far as reliability goes. For what it's worth, I built my personal car to almost the same specs. So I'm not just SAYING that I believe this is the way to go... I actually chose the same path for myself after driving just about every combo available.
