3506 Steelyard Dr Cleveland, OH WTF was a Worst Purchase doing there in the first place?!?
-
Ohhh... drunk checkpoints, too!

Wish they'd do it more often, with particular focus on 1. Holding up traffic by going (under) the limit in the hammer lane 2. Weaving Ticketing #1 will reduce the need for #2, and the reduction of #2 could make limits of 75 realistic (not that the OSHP will admit to such, but that's not my problem).

Might it be possible to just go to court and transfer ownership of that little strip, make it their problem?

FS : BULK 50 Dell Optiplex 745 Ultra Small Form Factor $5000
mmrmnhrm replied to alibies's topic in Other Stuff
At $100/ea I'd get at least two, maybe three (I need a box for a media PC, plus my linux box is showing its age). However, I (and most others here, probably) don't have the 5 grand to shell out for them all, or the space to store them. Perhaps if a whole bunch of us commit to a certain number which equals 50? Or convince the school to allow parting them out? -
Think it's about time to remove the sticky on this failure of a winter....

I think this is where choosing photogs and negotiations come in... my soon-to-be-wife and I were spending a good bit of time debating how we should approach the picture-taking, because there are a couple of published photogs on our guest list who we knew would be more than willing to handle that aspect for us. We've also got family who do the post-processing work for a living and were almost begging to do it for us. Eventually, though, we decided that hiring someone (we ended up choosing a HS classmate of mine who runs a photo business) was the best course of action, mostly because: 1. We want our guests to be guests and enjoy themselves, not have to worry about snapping off pictures every thirty seconds 2. One of them would spend an inordinate amount of time composing the picture instead of just getting on with it. Great when shooting motorcycles, not so much with people. 3. We know a couple will still bring their portable gear just based on personality. Taking away the responsibility of shooting us lets them meet, greet, and talk shop with each other (and maybe even settle the Canon vs. Nikon wars). Basically, what we worked out was a not-on-the-menu package that focuses on getting lots of pictures (with enough gray cards to make sure the backroom folks can get white balance), cuts out all of the prints/books/whatnot that usually comes with buying a wedding package, and gives them full advertising rights. We're spending about half what a normal wedding package costs as a result

Because the tux coat *will* come off at some point. The things are simply too hot to be comfortable once you start moving around.

Swap you the converter box for helping change my brake fluid?
-
Ok, so they're pricey. But if there *is* legitimate uses for these things, then why aren't they being improved and marketed? Nobody bats an eye when dropping a couple million on a backup generator, because you need the thing. If this fisheye thing has a purpose, then it should create a self-sustaining market.
-
I just have two questions.... 1. Why (assuming that "just to see if we can / for the lulz" isn't valid) 2. If there's a legitimate answer to #1, why hasn't anybody continued making or improving on these specialty fish-eyes?
-
Right... going around and starting to collect stuff to do it all myself. Two things I haven't been able to find yet.... - How much brake fluid do I need, and does that have to be Honda-special-sauce, or is any DOT-3 kosher? - 100k seems an awful long time to still have factory-fill coolant, but I haven't found anything in the manual about the drain-fill interval on that. Anybody know what it should be, and how much I'll need? Scott, Jason, what are your weekends looking like? I'll be in Cleveland on 5/13 and have a wedding 5/26, but otherwise I'm clear. No Ruth's Chris, mind you, but dinner is well worth the time, tools, and the possibility of Eli showing up and plotting some... adjustments.

Got a $50 Bissell bagless at wallyworld about 3 years ago, and the thing still sucks harder than Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.

Wait... you're on a car board and have to ask this??? :dumb: Walking not fast enough? Use a camel. Camel too slow? Upgrade to a horse. Horse eats too much? Use a car. Car still too slow? Invent the airplane. Plane doesn't go high enough? Strap a couple rockets on the belly. The whole point is to improve what you got (within reason, of course) :gabe:

What kind of trans? The hybrid has a CVT rather than traditional automatic, so there's a specialized fluid for it. The trans code only pops every 25k, so it's not a big deal since it drains and replaces just like engine oil. Automatics... dunno.
-
Besides being a Honda service writer and having to stump for that, why should I go OEM (given that OEM's in 2006 were Denso and/or NGK anyways)? You can PM me if you don't want to let the boss man see "I'm only saying that because I have to, personally I'd use ......."
-
Ya, started looking at plug options last night.... :fuuuu: NGK? Denso? E3? Bosch? The OEM plugs in there now are (or should be, at least) iridium plugs from NGK or Denso, but now's when I get to start playing with options, and if there's something better, I'm willing to put them in.

Bloody hell... apart from not having the torque wrench and socket+extension, that's fsckin' easy (says the guy who thinks maybe going to auto mech school would be a better idea than putzing around computers for the rest of his life) That said, we are kinda wandering off. Given that I don't have a driveway to do the oil and trans fluid changes in anyways, and there's no way on god's green earth I'd let JiffyLube touch my car (not that they stock 0w-20 anyway), what's a reasonable ball-park shop estimate? (fwiw, by the time 200k rolls around, I do expect to have the driveway issue cleared, and maybe invite you over to do some.... tinkering....)
-
Yep, that's it. Sadly I don't have a driveway... still renting the same apartment I've had in Worthington since I moved to CBus in '05. I might take you up on it, though... 15 minutes is pretty damned quick

Engine - Hybrid 1.4L 4cyl inline, fourth generation IMA. I "know the theory" on doing plugs, but the last time I was near a car with the plugs out, I was 4 years old and my dad had the Datsun in pieces replacing just about every electrical piece in the thing. It didn't help that typing "iridium spark plugs" into Google threw more results than there are horny coeds on campus, but that's an entirely different issue. Brake fluid - I don't know what new versus old fluid looks like or how to bleed the lines. They're one of the parts I've never touched before, and something I'd rather not risk getting wrong. However, if Honda shops all quote $300 for that portion, and NTB only charges $150, well... just because I like one-stop shopping doesn't mean I'm immune to cost differentials, especially with the way Honda corporate has been screwing hybrid owners with dying battery packs.

So my Honda just ticked over 100k not too long ago, and this evening decided it was time to throw up the maintenance codes for a whole bunch of stuff. Normally I'd just do it all myself, except in the case of spark plugs and brake fluid, where I don't have the tools or experience. But between work and wedding planning, I just don't have the inclination this time around, so besides getting dealer quotes, I wanted to ask y'all what a reasonable estimate should be. The maint code is B1234, which means: B- Oil and filter change, plus the usual multi-point inspection type stuff 1- Tire rotation 2- Engine and cabin filters, inspect drive belt 3- Trans fluid 4- Spark plug replacement, valve clearance adjustment Plus I need... - Brake fluid replacement (which I've never done, should have had done once already, and don't want to risk screwing up) - Timing belt? (old/outdated advice?) - Water pump? (I've heard that you're supposed to replace them at 100k regardless, but don't actually see this written anywhere) Are shops amenable to doing just some stuff these days? The plugs and brakes are really the only things I *want* to farm out, but with this thing entering middle age, I'd like to find a shop I can feel reasonably confident in when something more substantial needs done.

Hmm... would ICP want her neden?

Nope, is still freakier.
