  1. Have him email me his resume... I haven't seen any postings for devs lately, but it wouldn't be unheard of for us to hire someone "before we're ready."

    Use solar panels to run 2(H2O) >> 2H2 + O2 electrolysis :gabe:

Subsidizing "corn to gas tank" in favor of "corn to dinner plate," when ethanol has a lower BTU density than regular gasoline, and you'd get better bang-for-the-buck by getting rid of sugar tariffs (aimed primarily at Brazil) and using that instead.
  4. Not really... reporting on the cause of something that happened months ago isn't exciting to people who have the attention span of a drugged goldfish. :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :lolguy: :masturboy:
  5. The Tesla S uses a lithium battery, so it's pretty much a case of "have juice, will travel" or "you're the proud owner of a several thousand pound paperweight." Charge state shouldn't really affect the torque much, if at all.
  6. In a different thread: http://www.geekologie.com/2012/06/photo-manipulated-disney-princesses-in-r.php
  7. Wifey got a ticket for exactly the situation Tim described. Included with your notice of infraction is a link to a CPD(I think... was a couple months ago) website where you can watch the video of what happened. Pretty cut and dry. If the video shows you stopped, appeal the ticket and have it tossed. If you didn't stop, well, pony up and call it a lesson learned. FWIW, I think CPD would make a metric fuckton more money if they put that camera facing the Hard Rd. exit of the shopping center catching folks making a left instead. I don't know how they could possibly make the "No left turn" sign more obvious without lining it with strobes and hanging a Dita von Teese pin-up below it, but every day I see cars lined up in front of the baby store waiting for some asshat to make a left during rush hour.
  8. Making your computer growl strangely? Easy Explaining to wifey how the camshaft works by using a flosser after she asks what that ungodly noise is? Win
  9. Unless they're offering (or beating) your asking price, or you're under pressure to sell, there's nothing wrong with giving them the finger and saying "Screw it, I'm not selling to you." Just because it's a "buyer's market" doesn't mean the buyer can do anything they like.
  10. $20 for ATI 4650HD, 1G DDR2, dual DVI w/ 1 VGA adapter. Bought the thing so I could play EVE on my "easy to carry around" comp while wifey was still at CWRU. Then CCP changed to require SSE2 extensions and the point became moot.
  11. One of the "Tier 1" guys just resigned. http://careers.expedient.com/apply/QddXAc/Analyst.html is the same position (just posted at the Boston office). I *think* they're still looking for a night guy, too. We also a need someone at the front-desk, but you have to have at least some idea of IT to qualify (in other words, your domestic partner can't get a job just by being a broad and flashing their anatomy)
  12. Link? Everything I've seen says the exact opposite.
  13. UCI is cycling's governing body, and as such is the only group that actually has the authority to strip titles. USADA can make all the noise they want, but it's really UCI that can revoke titles. They're already on record (via the failed court case) as being very suspicious of USADA, and have "requested" the basis for their (USADA's) actions. Good article here.
  14. Ryan, saw your note about the source package not looking clean... let me know where to email, and I'll shoot you a .ZIP version
  15. Ouch... one of the EVE guys just found this thread on Oracle's dev forums... so it's almost certainly a security signing issue, and a recompile with that bit turned off should make the world happy again.
  16. The entire project lives at http://evemap.battleclinic.com. It's an out-of-game 3D mapping and planning app for EVE Online that broke a year or so ago. Code is GPL, so we're not breaking any rules by fiddling with it The error we actually get when launching the app is "Found unsigned entry in resource", which to us suggests Sun/Oracle changed something in an underlying library, and all we need to do is recompile the app with that library either statically linked, or with a security bit turned off.
  17. Just give him the tools, and he'll likely figure the rest out on his own. The hardest part is knowing how to start, and not getting frustrated when the computer is too stupid to understand your vision. Autists are conceptual, while computers (and "normal" people) are linear; trying to cross that gap can be maddening for some. Edit: Same for daughter... concepts are key... If you've ever watched 'Babylon 5', Kosh's phrase "Ahh, you seek meaning? Then listen to the music, not the song," is somehow apt.
  18. The basics of programming never really change, and depending on the "flavor" (for lack of a better term) of his brain's wiring, it is entirely possible that you could just throw a couple of books at him, and he'll be writing code just a few days later. The guy who invented BitTorrent is an asperger/autist... these things just pop into their heads fully formed, and then it's just a matter of putting keys to board. A couple of Arduino kits and shields might be a good way to get started... writing code is one thing, but seeing it actually *DO* something is important, too.
  19. Need help compiling some shit... or at least understanding just wtf is going wrong... Case in point: C:\net\vansante\EVEMap\Data>javac EVEObject.java C:\net\vansante\EVEMap\Data> javac Location.java Location.java:25: error: cannot find symbol public abstract class Location extends EVEObject { ^ symbol: class EVEObject 1 error Ok... I just (apparently) successfully compiled the base class, and now you're telling me you can't compile an extension to it??
  20. No. Customers would still want to buy cars, but there wouldn't be any to buy. 1. GM goes under, doesn't pay the bills to their parts suppliers. 2. Weak suppliers begin going under as banks call in their lines of credit. 3. Parts shortages cause production halts at otherwise healthy car manufacturers. The assembly lines are stopped and parts inventory (from suppliers who were healthy) starts to pile up. As inventory grows, new orders stop. 4. Without new orders, healthy suppliers stop building. People get laid off, and now there's less money flowing through the economy. 5. Less money in the hands of people causes slowdowns everywhere else as debt gets paid down, savings go up, etc (what we've been seeing the last four years). A recession begins, further feeding the negative cycle. For a good example of what happens when just *ONE* supplier is unable to deliver, take a look at the availability of cars with metal-fleck/pearl paint last year. There was just a single supplier that bloody everyone bought that stuff from. That supplier was in Japan, and got whacked by the Tohoku earthquake/tsunami. End result? Not a single metal/pearl car on anybody's lot, anywhere!
  21. Cause if GM goes down, an assload of parts suppliers get taken out with them, and when those suppliers go under, they'll take Ford and Chrysler-Fiat with them, which will fuck over more suppliers, which then put a major hurt on Honda and Toyota, which while "Japanese" employ a shitload of people in factories here in the States as well.
  22. Another position just opened up, one slot for Columbus *OR* Cleveland (not both) http://careers.expedient.com/apply/ukL8o4/Service-Delivery-Engineer.html
  23. Before you do anything else, find a buddy who has a USB-HDD adapter, take your hard drive out and hook it to another computer with the adapter ($20 at Microcenter if you don't have a buddy with one). Make sure the drive wasn't also fried before you spend money fixing something that might get you nowhere.
