  1. Just throwing the wild card option out there, could it have been damaged due to some type of odometer fraud?
  2. Yes we have nearly replaced the photographer. Cool stuff. Good choice in gear too :gabe: http://blogs.reuters.com/photographers-blog/2012/07/04/robo-cams-go-for-olympic-gold/
  3. The only issue I know of that's similar is when a camera is been exposed to moisture or used in very high humidity environments. Given it started when he was shooting storms.......
  4. Cool. Believe it or not, it could have been something as simple as a static shock that caused something to go crazy.
  5. Try just hitting the reset switch behind the connector cover. Pg. 179 in your manual reading through it, Nikon appears to have an internal clock battery that is recharged by the main battery only and not user replaceable. They've implemented all kinds of weird cost saving measures on their entry cameras.
  6. They want their $2B in lost investment money back. I can save them $1B of it by just stop mailing these things to everyone.
  7. Check this image of a D7000.......see the little black clip above the yellow release.....similar to the Canon one I posted of mine.....I bet you have your solution for the battery there. Again, pull them both out, turn the camera on/off, let sit and then reinstall them both. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d7000/D3S_2893-battery-door-1200.jpg
  8. I don't have a Nikon to chime in but Canon locates theirs by the main battery with a little hidden slot that slides up. I have the manual for your camera in pdf but it's lame and doesn't show it. Talks about it but doesn't show it. Odd. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/144548323/original.jpg
  9. Nope, there's a disc style in there. Check inside near your memory card. It actually likely right in there with your main battery though. I'll see if I can get you a picture.
  10. Most DSLR's have two batteries. The main one, then a small disc lithium battery that keeps the settings and clock in tact. Pull both batteries, let the camera sit for a few minutes and pop them back in. Post back.
  11. Have you ever practiced or been trained in martial arts? I used to teach self defense classes in college (Jujitsu and Savate) and rule #1 is always to fight. Statics even prove in a male on female actual attack, survivors are the ones who fight. In terms of a nut shot in the real world, it's a great move and delivered correctly is an excellent initial blow. I always teach the initial locations of vulnerability, groin, throat, ears, eyes, solar plexus, base of neck, etc.... Rule #1 on the street is to avoid showing off and kicking higher than the groin. Save the head shots for when they are on the ground. From an attack standpoint, a solid rear leg cross stomp to the side of the knee will take out most any size attacker. Quite possibly one of the best ways to immobilize them and easy as saying goodbye after a groin shot. Even an small framed soccer mom can execute both moves.
  12. rascal unit in Dublin or even check with PetSmart or Compete PetMart to see if they are offering any clinics in the store.
  13. This is the pepper I was referencing was posted about. It's some serious shit.
  14. there is one in my thread that shoots a red colored gel but the accuracy requires more steady hand. distance is like 12-15ft. shaped like a gun too. No doubt we were/are too. We have a 6 and 9 year old. precautions and education are definitely needed. We have handprint safes on every level with a handgun and the shotgun is secure in the home as well. thanks for the help, i'll see if I can dig up that old thread to look at.
  15. While I understand her interest in non lethal first and a hesitancy towards a real gun, I would ask her to put things in perspective. Here we're talking an intruder in your home right? To me that's a way more justified and serious concern to insure she has lethal force to confront that encounter. Believe me, I have a CCW as does my wife, but it's the very, very last thing I would use in the field of daily life, with the one exception being my home. There I won't entertain a non lethal means as there's no question as to the intent of an intruder. Especially if someone is home. I picked up my wife a Hot Shot Pepper gun which is a cloud of pepper driven by an enclosed CO2 cart. I did a bit of research on these and on top of some good old fashion quality pepper spray, it's what I chose for her to keep very handy. I have a thread on here around Nov-Dec. time frame on it. Killjoy posted some good stuff in it too. Search and good luck in the decision.
  16. Insurance companies can't wait to replace this system i bet.
  17. good to know. ours is simliar. today hit 100 outside so it did well considering, keeping the house at 75 but the temp inside didn't go below 77 until just before sunset. runs all the time as the others are. Would putting some fans in the attic help at all? We have gable vents on, hat vents and of course the screens/vents on the soffets. Our system is 24 years old and it's still ticking...knock on wood. When we replace it we'll get a size or two bigger to insure it's cool.
  18. They started 15 minutes early!! Thankfully.

  20. Ah, camera operator fail then.
  21. Reason 1,234,567 why it's not a good idea to put people of all different areas of town together in one place.
