Welcome to the group my friend! The M5 is represented well here but pics of the other two would be welcomed as well. Post 'em up!

Thank you sir. The process here was a combination of Wool pads and CarPro ClearCut compound and in other areas I used the Rupes UHS pads/polish as a 1-step. It was really on the edge of needing compounded but to get the most out of my time and corrections I had to two-step some of the panels. I used both the Flex 3401 and the new Rupes LK900 Mille Buffers on this vehicle. You're quite welcome. Anytime I can help, I will. See you on the weekend of the 21st with your wife's vehicle

Not sure. I was a few cars behind them just waiting to see if a Perry Township, Dublin or CPD officer would see it to make for an interesting afternoon.

Thanks guys. This one floats around Lewis Center a bit. Owner is the coolest OSP officer I've met. Thanks to you both too! Clay, I know you love the V but also enjoy the German side of life so I couldn't help but think of you here. Also, the price this car sold for....you'd flip. It's no wonder he can afford to replace the headlights and put on some BBS's onto it. He stole it.

Looking past all the lingo debate, I will say I saw a blue/purple-ish bike on Sawmill this weekend who continually was riding vertical trying to prove his one-wheel-skill while the rest of suburbia was wondering if the cars around him would eventually hit or run him over had he wiped out. Cool bike but a douche of a rider IMO. Do that shit away from others as I certainly wouldn't be pissed had his lack of responsibility caused someone besides himself to incur damage or injury. At least he had a melon cover on.

Will correct your distance but your near vision will still continue to weaken as you age.

So Eric and his M5 referred over a fellow forum member from the M-Series world to me in order to breath some life into this awesome machine. The story here is the car is originally from Chicago but made it's way to Ohio for the second leg of it's ownership experience. It ended up through a subsequent sale in the hands of a collector who had an affinity for Japanese iron and dipped his toe into the world of German autos. Must not have been his thing as it was sitting in a warehouse in Findley, Ohio until it's current owner found it for sale. As a current M3 Owner and a true car guy, he wanted this to be his daily and with that at least have a little gloss to the swirls it was presenting. Looking over the options, he decided to hide the majority of the imperfections and coat it so it would hold up to sitting outside year-round given his M3 holds the garage queen spot. I couldn't resist leaning into this one a bit more as removing most but not enough would't do this baby justice. I ended up with a few more hours in it but the end result is darn near 95++ % correction and the few blemishes that remain are simply "remembrances" that this baby is 15+ years old. Clay needs one like this. BMW German style, excellent platform, 6 speed V8 with an exhaust delete that is damn perfection it sounds so deep and good. Not at all "LOUD" like I would have expected. The swirls here don't come across as bad in pics as they do in person. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772406/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772405/original.jpg Overall, the car was just plain dull and lifeless looking when instead that paint was crying to come alive with metallic flake, color and depth. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167772407/original.jpg With that the transformation to Cars & Coffee worthiness took place: The car was corrected and coated with two (2) layers of Cquartz UK v3.0 (newest version) and one layer of CarPro Gliss which adds a SUPER Slick surface feel with the added protection of a fluorine based layer that is resistant to water spots, etching and generally perfect for vehicles that are victims of year-round exposure to the elements. Windows and Trim were also treated with their respective SiO2 based products. Windows should exhibit a great hydrophobic property shedding water starting at about 35mph and the trim...will stay nice and black with a Satin finish for up to a year. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780097/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780098/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780561/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780099/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780102/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780101/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780100/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780103/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780635/original.jpg B-Pillar before and after a few passes http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780628/original.jpg Final results http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167780627/original.jpg

The reason I suggest rifes is only based on one experience. However, I was ultra picky with the Audi and what sold me is their experience on Paris Ct. when it comes to paint. The guy there (forget his name) who did my Audi has been there for over 34 years painting and came across very solid in terms of his skills and knowledge. He promised me that paint wise no one but me and him would be able to tell and he was right. Not a seem or line anywhere showed signs that it was sprayed. Finish wise, it was as nice if not better than factory. Thickness wise, it matched perfect too. My car had on average 6-7 mils total between all layers and the new paint measured in at 5-6 mils total and it was even throughout. Most every car I detail that's been painted comes in very high, much higher, and is very uneven. Here's what it looked like AFTER the work. Drivers Side Door, Pass Door, Rear Quarter are all new parts/paint. Here's a reflection off the rear drivers door Good luck and regardless of where you go, as I have no tie to Rifes, I'll be happy to detail/finish the end product once you get it back. Working on another older M5 today that is impressive and is going to look outstanding when done.

Haha on the drive home part! No doubt they were looking at you as that baby looks showroom new if not better. I found the oddest thing was watching you pull away and hearing anything but the rolling tires. So odd no hearing any engine or exhaust. Appreciate the kind words too. Enjoy the drive up north and dodge those potholes for sure as with 21's they won't at all be forgiving if you whack one.

So fellow CR Member Josh akak Murse has owned this 2013 S Series of for over a year and just hasn't had the ability to provide it the roll-back in ages and dirt that it has been crying out for. No worries, together we selected a package that would do just that and it turned out AMAZING! This no longer looks like a 5-6 year old car but rather nearly brand new. Overall the car wasn't horrible but it did have a full covering in swirls and being without any layer of protection dirt was stuck to it like Velcro. The good news for Pearl White owners is the color and metallic flake work together to hide these imperfections most of the time. They do pop out at night under lights or in direct sun but the latter is relay only visible from the right angle and not across the entire panel. That all sounds good but those swirls mask the depth of the metallic and greatly reduce the reflective of the pearl and clear coat overall. They may not look too deep or harsh in the pics but in person they do pop out much more. The plan on this car was to perform my Option 2: Premium Enhancement whereby the goal is to reduce the imperfections in the area of 75% or so. Great news is I often can knock them down much more and in this case wile the clear is a SUPER Hard layer, it corrected in the area of 90-95% and what imperfections do remain are not really ever going to be noticed since, as noted above, the color masks them well. The car was polished, Coated with 2 layers of Cquartz UK 3.0, the glass was also coated with Gyeon's Q2 VIEW Product and the Trim Coated with Gyeon's Q2 TRIM product so Josh won't have to mess with any trim products after his standard washes. Now water will fly off his car like it should. White can be a difficult color to capture with a camera but there's simply nothing like seeing a Tri-Color Pearl all cleaned up with a nice depth to the clear coat coming through just super clean and pure in person. I was pressed for time given I had one afternoon to finish this and out of respect that he had a 20 minute ride from work to my house then over a 1hr+ ride back home. Josh, thanks so much for taking the time and trusting in my work. I really hope you enjoy the ride all cleaned up! Some BEFORE Shots: The car sure needed a strong clean up and the lower trim / rockers were caked with road paint and tar. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769488/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769489/original.jpg With that the paint finish was also rather dull in appearance. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769487/original.jpg Even the lights and plastics were badly marred up and not able to really "POP!" out and show off the clean lines of the car. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769490/original.jpg The appearance of swirls was there even though masked well by the color of the paint http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769491/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769493/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769492/original.jpg I absolutely LOVE the design of the exterior on the Model S. Timeless IMO. It is a BIG car for sure. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769511/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769495/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769497/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769496/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769498/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769494/original.jpg All the glass was polished to remove etchings and water spots, then coated including the roof which is all glass and will now shed water like it should. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/167769499/original.jpg

Prompted by Clays point in my most recent detail from CR, I'll put out the following thoughts and points of feedback from the detailing world as it's a great topic for discussion and learning. In a nutshell, if your car is a daily driver then there's no escaping that the finish will develop a build-up or a layer road grime that physically and mechanically will bond to and eventually stain the finish thus reducing the hydrophobic property of the coating and the level of gloss. The impact isn't just on the paint/clear coat either. It will impact the windows, plastic trim, metal trim work and even fabric tops. It's one of the main reasons why I don't push the super expensive 3-5 or 7-10 year type coatings that are marketed today. They are fine for a garage queen but daily drivers and weekend toys are more of what I see. In the case of a ceramic paint coatings, if the owner maintains a clean car and does so carefully as to not scour the actual coating, a coated vehicle will stay cleaner longer and resist the build-up of a film of road grime, far better than any sealant or wax on the same surface. The reason for this is coatings are usually applied to a fully corrected and polished vehicle. That polish or leveling aka smoothness of the finish is what provides a vehicle it's gloss level. It also removes any voids, pits, pores or interstices that road grim/oil film will tend to migrate into thus causing the build up I've mentioned. Once embedded into imperfections it's typically beyond the point that normal car washing will remove it. Just the same however, all finishes will, with enough time, see a build up of dirt and film. The good news is, the newer coatings I'm using and that are readily available on the market are very good, very durable and resist the bonding of contaminants extremely well. Thus here in Ohio you will easily get 2 winters worth of stellar appearance so long as you don't leave the December through February salt-laden gunk on the surfaces. So at that point what do you do? Well, at some point you will need to deep cleaning of the finish with some type of paint polishing process. My first recommendation is to look at products like CarPro Cquartz, they do offer a non-destructive product in Essence Plus that when combined with their Gloss Pad and a polisher will help not only restore the properties of the coating but it helps hide light swirls and overall combined with the mechanical action of the polisher and pad system will help clean the paint. From there, if the finish is really bad and the above is not able to work, a full decontamination, polish and a re-application of the coating will likely be necessary. The great news is that with proper care from day-one, this re-polish will likely be nothing more than a strong cleaning vs a full correction thus keeping time and costs down significantly. Polishing the paint will restore clarity and depth to the finish/clear coat and it will restore the full richness of color to a single stage paint non clear coated paint. It's also the base for your choice of wax or sealant. If you choose to use a paint coating, there are typically additional steps necessary to prepare the paint for the coating as per the specific manufacturer's instructions/process. I hope the above helps provide some insight as to my take on the longevity of coatings. It's high-level and perhaps not an all inclusive reply but should fit-the-bill for initial conversation.

Thanks Clay. These new products I have been adding really are outstanding. What I have seen lately outside advancements in the carrier solvents used in the coatings thus making them easier to apply, is the technology around their contact angles. Seeing drops of water standing at attention ready to fly off paint with the slightest breeze is pretty cool. Longevity how they hold up can be subject to how the vehicle is cared for an what it's exposed to. I've created a post on the subject as it's a great topic and one that gets discussed a lot on various forums.
