  1. most people who steal things are typically not too smart---that's why they have to resort to stealing. they make dumb mistakes, and don't think things through.
  2. i know my cobra is faster than my z, but the z is a completely different car---feels 1000lbs lighter than the cobra, stops from 120mph like its nothing, and turns heads at every single stoplight. the cobra does not, and will not ever do this. if you're not happy with a lightly modded zo6, then you won't be happy with anything as far as a sports car goes--certainly not an evo that's been modded to piss.
  3. you will spend more in the end buying a modded car, because you will want to put more into it, and spend more on it to fix things, and upkeep--that's the nature of owning a modded car--there are constantly new costs. i bought a catback, intake, shifter, and dynotune on my GTO 3 years ago, and haven't even had to put any money towards it in 3 years--not even tires. you can put the same mods on a c6z and run 10's with good tires. take your re-enlistment money and put it towards a house---you'll have a lot more to show for it in the end. cars are great for fun times, and memories, but owning your own home is a way of making money--it will make the money you earned defending this country seem all the more worthwhile--as opposed to saying "i spent a ton of my deployment money on a new motor for my car"
  4. don't take this the wrong way, but why is this guy interested in your cobra, if he has a completely solid, 9-10 second car, that is built so well that it would withstand years of abuse without a single problem?? i'm not one to judge people too harshly, but you've dropped WAY too much money modding your cobra, drove a bolt-on cts-v for a while, wrecked a lightly modded vette, and are now looking at trading a HIGHLY modded race car (that you know the history of, and all the components in, and are fairly sure things have been done correctly this time) for another HIGHLY modded race car that you don't know anything about (other than what the other owner tells you, and has receipts for). if you're looking for a break from the "neverending money pit of modifying cars" then you're looking in the wrong place. buy an '07 c6z. bolt-ons, tune, and tires and you'll be faster than your cobra ever was with the reliability that goes along with owning a near-stock car.
  5. very rarely is this true. parts are simply not meant for long term abuse--period. with so many variables that go into these cars, its just a matter of time before something goes wrong, and then you're back to square one. my advice---buy a near stock car with a warranty and enjoy it without the 'walking on eggshell' feeling that you're going to blow it up lightly used c6z--trust me

  7. a lot of people have already done this though---all of them lose their ass when they try to sell it. if you're looking for a drag race car, get a fox, throw a stroked windsor motor in it, and spray the house down. the 'terminator fox' has been done. its still a cool project if done correctly (interior swapped), but the easier path is to simply buy a cobra. for every one of these projects that gets completed, there might be several that end up not being done--the car gets sold partially assembled, and the owner loses their ass on the deal. i don't mean to discourage you--if you truly want to do it, go for it. modularfords.com and svtperformance are full of information, and have drivetrains/parts constantly for sale
  8. i lived one block west of high street on king ave, way back in 2000-2002. what a dump. people from the east side of high would come over all the time and break into cars
  9. go with a terminator, and throw a twinscrew on it. my car has had the 590rwhp (17psi, smaller twinscrew blower) tune on it for the past 3.5 years with zero, i repeat zero issues. the motor is bone stock except an intake, mass air, and fuel mods. stock headers, stock clutch, stock tranny. with a bigger blower, 650rwhp woud be the norm on a street tune. my solid rearend has been in for less than a year, but its a detroit trutrac, with 31spline axles, max motorsports lowers, panhard bar, torque arm. if you want to build a notch, that's your choice. you'll end up spending MUCH more than if you simply buy a cobra. if you throw a turbo on the car, you'll end up 'going for more', and need a short block. just my advice from owning my car since new.

  11. +1 i bought my 1990 grand prix in 2000 for $3k. i drove it from 75k miles to 150k miles with only minor maintainence. the head gasket blew at 150k miles. i fixxed it, gave it to my grandfather in 2007, and it still runs to this day. plenty of cars for $3k that will last
  12. last year i sold my wife's '99 sentra for $2400. it had 115k miles on it. would have been perfect for your daughter. my vote goes for a sentra. absolutely everything worked on it, we never had one single problem with it--it was well-maintained, oil changes by me every 3-4k miles, and i have absolutely NO doubt it will last another 100k miles. some 18 year old girl bought it for a college car before we left florida. i wanted a quick sale, she got a great deal. look for a sentra, would be my advice
  13. that's the advantage of living in a hardworking, blue collar town--no one would pay $5/sq foot. it took them a week to do my floor. the floor was blasted, powercleaned, seams filled, primed, 2 coats of gray, chips applied, 2 coats of sealant---its apparently 30mil thick, and again, warranteed against normal wear for 10 years. my garage is mostly a 'show' garage and will not even see normal wear. but the garage is about 2000 sq feet.
  14. didn't read the above posts, but if you're looking for a cheap solution, in a non-permanent house (rental)---just go to lowes and get the rustoleum kit and be done with it. i did it in my old house, and it still was fine after 5 years. if you want it done professionally, expect to pay around $3 per square foot. sounds pricey, but i have a 10 year warranty on my floor coating and i don't have a single mark on it yet

  17. looked to me like they were charging $8k for a blower set-up. i realize that might include intercooler, injectors, a fuel pump, etc. but for that money, it would be tempting to go with a turbo kit (which i'm sure will probably be $10k). i do like these new cars, and would consider trading in the GTO for one
  18. that's odd. are you sure?? the amish are traditionally VERY good when it comes to paying health bills. they have a completely unique way of paying for healthcare. they traditionally have a large community collection of money for healthcare for everyone that goes above and beyond normal things. if someone is extremely sick--they have a community meeting about whether or not to continue health care for that individual. if they decide not to continue, then they may withdraw care for that patient (pull the plug). pretty sad sometimes
  19. many are not hospital employees, hence the separate bill. the same thing goes for most surgeons
  20. unbundling is illegal for most procedures. so if i replace both knees in a patient, i get paid 100% for the first, and 50% for the second-- sure, the hospital stay might not be as much, but i'm not getting paid correctly. imagine going to someone's house---fixing their sink, the toilet, and the bathtub---you receive 100% payment for the sink, 50% for the toilet, and 50% for the bathtub---seems fair, right??
  21. be thankful you have insurance, pay the bill, and enjoy the new addition to your family. negotiating pricing is what people who don't have insurance do. funny, we even provide the exact same service to people who have absolutely no means of paying for it--
