  1. $1200 is what i get paid for the initial visit, the preoperative visit in my office, the 2 hours of surgery, seeing the patient in the hospital for 3 days, seeing the patient in my office at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after the surgery. $1200 is what i actually get for all of those visits and to do the surgery. the money that the insurance company pays the hospital is much, much more--maybe close to $30-40k. but when you take into account the taxes i pay, the malpractice i pay, paying the office staff, and the fact that only one in every 5-6 patients i see require surgery---that money doesn't seem like much. especially when the metal knee or hip implant costs between $5-$10k---yeah....wtf
  2. several points to make here--- most people without health insurance WILL NOT use it properly once they get obama's handout. in an ideal world, obama's plan involves:: 1)giving everyone insurance 2)everyone with insurance now sees their family physician for routine checkups--catching minor health problems before they become major ones, thus saving tons in healthcare costs and eliminating the need for 'specialists' 3)decrease the number of physicians who are 'specialists' 4)increase the number of physicians who are 'family doctors' 5)decreasing the amount of money that specialists make by decreasing the amount of money that is reimbursed for 'specialty procedures' his plan will fail miserably because:: 1)people will NOT see their family doctor for routine checkups--they just won't. especially people who do not currently have insurance. i take care of my fair share of people without insurance---i will say in general, they just don't give a fuck. they wait until their problem is out of control, and they just go to the ER. giving them a 'family doctor' won't do shit 2)you can't decrease the number of specialists. the need for knee replacements (what i do) is going to go up 7 fold in the next 20 years, as americans get older, fatter, and live longer. knee arthritis cannot be stopped, or slowed down by a 'family doctor' if caught early--it just can't 3)specialists won't accept a pay cut---we've been getting less and less money from medicare for years. a knee replacement used to pay a physician $5,000 in the '80s. today, medicare pays you $1200 for a knee replacement. with 7 times as many people needing knee replacements in the future, i will not accept less money to do the procedure--especially since peoples' expectations/demands have increased so much over the past 10 years. since there will be so many people in need of a knee replacement, and limited surgeons to do the procedure--i will simply tell people if they want a knee replacement, i'll need $4,000 cash in addition to what medicare pays me. there are plenty of surgeons who already do that, and it is perfectly legal. so in the end, less people will get the healthcare they need
  3. this is why i'm thinking of keeping it. right now, the car is not fun at all for me to drive--its just not what i want right now. i don't have the time right now to do what i want with it. my cobra/gto do everything better. but if i sell it, i know i will kick myself eventually. we'll see how i feel this spring. i might just look into tuning the car so it doesn't have the cold-start issue. i do have tons of memories working on this car when i was in school.
  4. i'm going back and forth on selling. i spent countless hours working on this car in college/grad school--so its hard to come to terms with selling it. it was the first car i bought. but i honestly have driven the car less than 500 miles/year the last 5 years. the cobra and GTO are faster, more comfortable, and not as loud (damn, i'm getting old). i'm more likely to drive them when i can get away from the family for a drive. if i put it up for sale, it will likely be in the spring sometime. the car is not perfect by any means, but is clean, with a great interior, and a solid motor. i haven't changed a single thing on this car (aside from the fluids), since i did the bulk of the mods in 2000. thanks for the input guys--even this guy^^
  5. overnight parts from japan?? sorry, i had to. congrats on a good year.
  6. and i need to know a ballpark figure on what you guys think its worth here are the specs on the car, i bought it bone stock in 1998 with 75k miles current motor has 15k miles on it, and was installed in 2000--i barely drive this car --stock shortblock, mildly ported gt40-p heads, gt40 tubular intake, 70mm t-body, 24lb injectors, mass air conversion, e303 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, longtubes, hpipe, flowmasters, 150lph pump. smog/ac eliminated ---tremec transmission with 15k miles, hurst shifter, cobra clutch, 3.73's, aluminum driveshaft, cobra-r wheels, subframes, bbk lowering springs the body is in pretty good shape--body has around 115k miles on it, just a few areas where there is very mild surface rust that has been sanded and touched up. interior is cloth gray, and is in great shape, aside from needing a new headliner. t-tops do not leak. the car could use a tune, or a new mass air sensor--the pro-m unit that's on there now has known issues. it runs perfect once heated up, but has to heat up, or it runs like crap until its warm. idles just fine, etc etc. just wondering what people think the car is worth. it kills me to sell this thing--i don't need the money, but the car just sits--i don't have time to do what i'd really like to do with this car (turbo, full suspension, etc)--and i'm just more interested in my other cars and adding another car to the stable this summer hopefully here are some pics http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5821/s3500002ip1.jpg http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/9903/s3500001bz7.jpg http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/916/s3500003rh4.jpg http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/7881/s3500004yj2.jpg[/

    So...

+1 you missed out big time----and then you're so popular you called another girl, let's call her jill (take your right hand and put it in front of your face, palm facing outward to find out who 'jill' is)
  8. you're only 29--give it time. honestly, most people who lop their fingers off are people who are experienced woodworkers--not novices who occasionally use a table saw.
  9. like i said, we don't have an entrance exam to get on the site. i honestly thought you were being sarcastic with the miss-spelling/grammar in your post, which would have been funny. but it is very clear that YOU'RE not. you downgraded to the toyota in my opinion. if you don't like my opinion--fine. but i'm right. i would bet money that this car never gets built to the same specs as the talon.

    So...

wow, seriously great story. i'm now suicidal after reading your worthless drivel. where were the 'red flags' you so keenly picked up on again?? she was probably hoping that continuously bringing up her nails would prompt you to take her home and end the date.
  11. would the front spindles/brake/hydroboost set-up bolt right into my '85??
  12. 7 under with one blabbing and i thought that was good. damn, some of the scores here are nuts
  13. so........................you went from what appears to be a clean, modded talon............. to a car that i would expect to see a homeless person living in?? well, we don't require an IQ test to join the site, so welcome.
  14. great intro. welcome to the site.
  15. very nice indeed. what are the specs on the cobra.
  16. can't see the pics at work, can someone describe what the picture is of. thanks in advance. i have a brother named 'big d'
  17. looks like a tiburon. rice edit---and the production version will likely look nothing like this version by the way
  18. we're renting a house with a 2-car garage--my wife's big-ass SUV sits next to my cobra in a tiny 20X20 garage. i just started renting the heated shop pictured above in july. its nice--30X50 with a big heater, but its in a 'low-rent' part of town, and a good 3 miles from my house--seems stupid, but i'd rather walk 20 feet outside to a detached garage. we're closing in march on a house with a 40X60' detached garage. previous owner did heavy equipment repair, so this garage should be nuts. its a bit dirty, and needs hot water plumbed to it. but it has a 200amp box, with multiple heavy duty outlets everywhere, its plumbed for compressed air, with the compressor in a separate room, has cable for a tv, speaker outlets in each corner, a 100,000 btu moline heater, has a huge 14' high door, etc etc.
  19. http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/3995/dsc00570je.jpg can't wait to move in a few months. our new house will have a garage bigger than this--and a 3 car on top of that for our suv's. i won't have to drive a couple miles to get to my shop/tools.
  20. wtf is wrong with that car behind you?? welcome to the madness
  21. +1 if i get a huge lump sum every year, i am more likely to put away just about all of it. not sure how much i'll get this year, with starting a new job, but hopefully it will be nice
  22. i'm moving away from older, higher maintainence cars. i once wanted to have several fox-bodies--but now i find myself wanting to part with my '87. also, not really looking at going all-out with my '04 cobra. maybe just adding a few things here and there, but i'm moving just a bit away from modding cars. if i get a vette this summer, and it is likely, then i will surely do an intake/cam/full exhaust. part of it is having less time (demanding job, and spending more time with the family).
  23. cobra--double that gto--yes escalade--yes both foxes---275-ish rwhp
  24. what a mess dude. sorry you have to go through this. it is the father's responsibility--end of story
