well, let's say that you bring your concealed gun into mcdonalds. you order your food, go to grab your drink, and as you turn around with your drink in your hand, you accidentally bump into another patron and spill your pop on him. he calls you an asshole and shoves you. a fist fight ensues---do you pull out your gun??? i will admit that i AM generalizing a bit, because i think many people who carry can be put into situations like the one above, and make a mistake. are you in imminent danger of losing your life in the above situation?? absolutely not. is it justified to pull out your gun in mcdonalds and shoot the guy?? absolutely not---so what would you do if this guy was standing between you and the exit, and the only weapon he was weilding was a beergut and his fists??

i agree with your reasoning and it sounds like you've thought this through---but many, many people who decide to carry guns have NOT thought things through, at all. you couldn't even imagine all the different excuses i've heard why someone was shot

you could ditch the volvo, and go with a G8 or GTO--solid cars that you can drive to work AND modify as well--i drove my GTO to work quite a bit last year. its hard to find a solid fox mustang that won't frustrate the shit out of you from time to time--as well as consume time that you may not have during your residency. good luck in residency--try to get in on medical house officer moonlighting at mount carmel east hospital (i knew at least one med/peds guy that did this) and you can have whatever car you want during your residency.

i realize that people are going to carry no matter what, so no big deal. it doesn't make me paranoid or anything--and don't expect me to start some anti-gun carrying campaign either. i'm just stating a simple opinion. hell, i get business all the time from people shooting each other. i really don't know hardly anything about guns, but i bet i could pass whatever necessary test to conceal carry (assuming its multiple choice) without ANY preparation whatsoever.

i am. honestly, i'm more concerned about people ilegally carrying guns--but it definately bothers me that the average idiot standing next to me in line at chipotle can legally have a holstered gun on their belt. if i'm in a restaurant with my family, and that restaurant gets robbed at gunpoint--i'd much rather just hand over my wallet, and have the gunman get away, then dodge bullets as some vigilante with a 'concealed weapon' permit gets into a shootout with the gunman. i don't care how much training you've had, how many times you've been to the gun range, and how responsible you think you are, you're not a cop; and should not have a weapon of immediate deadly force in your possession at all times. that's my opinion. if you want a gun in your car to protect yourself in case of a car jacking, or as many guns that can possibly fit in your house, i'm o.k. with that. i've fired a gun before, and go hunting with my brother in law, so i'm not completely anti-gun

one of my roommates in college blew a 0.346 on his second DUI. he was working at a lodge out west in wyoming, said he was drinking, and went to bed. he woke up and was in his car driving--got back to the lodge, and there were cops there--they took him to the police station which was 30 minutes away, and that's where he blew a 0.346--who knows how high it was when he actually stopped drinking. i never doubted the fact that he was an alcoholic.
