  1. just like the title says, deep sea fishing. buddy of mine has a condo in siesta key--sarasota, florida. he owned a 23' whaler center counsel for a few years, then decided to get serious about offshore fishing. he treats the hobby like we treat cars--forums, aftermarket gear, etc etc. traded in the 23 footer for a new boat. its absolutely mindblowing how much larger boats cost--not only to purchase, but to maintain in a saltwater environment, to store, and to insure (against hurricanes). here's the new boat. 33' boston whaler. twin 300hp supercharged 6 cylinder motors. he's a safety freak, so the whaler was the only way to go. http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/3116/dsc00375dv.jpg fully geared up with navigation, fishfinder, satellite radio, satellite weather, every possible safety beacon, etc etc. http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/2175/dsc00377b.jpg day#1--headed out into a little weather. oh well, its not like we can just come back next weekend. had to wait about an hour for a clearing, and went for it. our target was a reef about 20 miles out. we got about 2 miles out and had to take a guy back due to 'feeling under the weather from the night before'. dropped him off and set out. http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8/stormfishing1.jpg leaving behind some nasty clouds http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8237/dsc00379do.jpg once we got out to the spot, the weather had cleared, and we were in 1-2' waves. after catching multiple small red groupers (keeper size is >20"), i landed a keeper gag grouper. http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7311/dsc00383c.jpg then the keepers just started coming. my buddy got a grouper http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/1603/ryansgrouper1.png the first day we got 6 keeper groupers, and about 5 or 6 small grey snappers. the second day we went out, we had much better weather, but the waves were 3-5' the whole day. our lost comrade from the previous day was able to withstand the waves, and we nailed the fish again. http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/1279/dsc00386f.jpg this was the haul from the second day. 3 gag groupers, 2 red groupers, 3 red snappers, a triggerfish, and a collection of small grey snappers, and porgies. we ate a ton of fish, and gave the rest to the captain we use each time we go fishing. http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/9705/dsc00395u.jpg all in all, i had a blast. we've made multiple fishing trips with our group of miscreants, and the area (sarasota) is absolutely awesome. america's #1 beach, great restaurants, nightlife, and incredible 'scenery'.
  2. meh, he's been attacking my profession since he got into office. trying to take away from the american dream i've spent nearly two decades of my life working towards. i say 'fuck him'. couldn't care less if every one of his policies crashed and burned.
  3. lulz. car sounds great. congrats on getting it back running again
  4. very informative post. tells me absolutely everything i need to know. i feel like i've known you my whole life. i have no questions.
  5. lulz at that wagon. needs some national lampoon's stickers on it. i bet that thing moves out. welcome to the site.
  6. well, what do you expect?? celebration?? i see no crying in this thread. complaining?? frustration?? of course. great post though:dumb:
  7. honestly, i would have been ok with a blowout loss. this loss is much harder to deal with. bauserman is (by far) worse than all the other OSU QB's who sucked---boeckman, belisari, zwick, etc.
  8. its hard to be an OSU fan here in wisconsin, when the whole state is basically having a 'dream year' as far as sports goes. i won't be placing any wagers on the OSU-WI game this year. oh well. i was a fan back in the bellisari years, i can't turn my back on them now.
  9. i had nothing but nightmares from tci. i should hopefully get the car back next week. for the 10miles that it actually worked, it was insane. the transmission was out of the car 4 times (linkage disconnected, front pump replacement, ruined 3rd gear, and front seal leak), before tci finally gave me a new one--now i'm just waiting to hear back from the builder. its a streetfighter 4r70w with roughly a 3k stall speed converter. i used a mach1 computer, so that the car could be shifted manually, or shift with the computer. lots of guys just swap in a stock 4r70w with a converter and have no problems---i paid out the ass for a 750+ capable tranny and had nothing but shitty customer service. i had planned on getting to the track this year, but probably not. i'll get some vids up when i get the car back.
  10. sadly, i ran that time with 590rhwp, but trapped 3mph more. that was with a stock IRS. its driver skill, or lack thereof.
  11. Tdiclub.com Guy I know had some problems with his tdi, so I did some online searching to help him out--i found that site to be very helpful
  12. Trust me, you'd daily drive the amg over the vette. Comfort, speed, quiet, automatic---i wouldn't consider daily driving my vette--not because its too nice, I'd just rather drive the more comfortable car on a daily basis No one said the weekend toy had to be the more exclusive/expensive car. Didn't realize it was a black series---wow. Looked like another benz to me.
  13. trust me, its a daily driver. same with the cts-v. and i would not daily either in the winter. i love rolling out in all the comforts that can be had in a 4200lb luxo-barge, but if you're looking for primarily a weekend toy, i just don't feel any of the following are the perfect vehicles (M5/6, CTS-v, S5, AMG's, and basically anything with 4 doors). 3900lbs is a ton of weight (almost two tons). if i'm looking to drive in style/comfort, take the kids somewhere, maybe have the wife drive home, and still go fast---its the V. if i'm looking to break the law, its the vette-- sure, you'll be unique at a car meet with a modded porsche turbo--:dumb:
  14. i almost bought the v-wagon, just for the lol factor. wife talked some sense into me. the v-wagons are the cheapest of the 3 v models at this time
  15. disturbing, to say the least. even if UGR wins in the courtroom, they lose in the public eye. jalopnik is a pretty popular site, and if you get negative press on that site, it will be linked to every major car forum. sure, 99.999% of people who see the article will never be in any position to buy one of those cars. but they run a business not based on high volume sales. if 10 potential customers decide to go elsewhere, they will feel it bigtime.
  16. yes. http://jalopnik.com/5837721/lamborghini-tuner-threatens-customer-with-stripper-video definitely more to the story than is listed here, but this looks bad for UGR imo. i looked at their website a while back when i thought it would be awesome to own one of these. don't think i'd consider it based on this, and a few other vidoes floating around of the owner being a complete fucking douchebag to the owner of titan motorsports (who has a turbo kit out for the gallardo).
  17. good luck with that. get into an argument with the UGR team and they're likely to accuse you of cheating on your wife, and threaten you that they will show your wife video of you admitting to going to a strip club :dumb::dumb: honestly, if you spend that kind of money to turbo a lambo or a ferrari, there are literally only 1-2 shops in the country that will be able to work on the car--fuck that. if you have a 'falling out' with one of these shops, you're literally fucked. sure, we see the awesome videos of these cars absolutely tearing it up. what you don't see are the videos of these cars eating the clutches in the e-gear, and ruining the 4wd systems, etc, etc, etc. if you want to enjoy a reliable car, and avoid frequent expensive repairs, throwing forced induction on an exotic is not exactly smart. couple years ago when i was in florida 2 of the 4 doc's i worked with had brand new 911 turbo's (whichever model was $130k+ at the time), and one had a 4 year old ferrari. took a ride in the porsche and i will say i was very impressed. pulled like crazy, was quiet, comfortable, and literally felt connected to the road. never got a chance to roll out in the ferrari, but did hear him bitching for a month about a $22k repair bill to do brakes, tires, and some 'routine' maintenance on the motor. wtf?? the vette and porsche can both be modded to well over 600hp with absolutely no concerns for driveability, longevity, etc. or you can enjoy them stock. i've had my z for 2 years (2,500 miles), and would probably be o.k. driving it stock indefinitely. i have a shifter, mild to wild switch, intake, and a set of sticky wheels/tires. there's no way i've driven this car near its limit in stock form. adding 100rwhp is fairly simple, and hard to avoid doing with so many shops around that are proven on these cars
  18. actually, i do. multiple cars, big house, big umbrella, and a few other policies through state farm. can't believe it only adds up to less than $400/month. that's a far cry from what i pay for disability/life insurance. nuts, how much people pay for insurance. i haven't had any claims other than a windshield about 6 years ago. we did have a decent sized homeowners claim for water damage though.
  19. "you have a nasty flat spot in your fuel curve. you just need to widen the injector pulse a couple milliseconds, and you'll run 9's"
  20. who wants to roll out in a 15 year old 1997?? not me. pretty sure the op is married with kid(s), so he's probably not looking to date whomever. i'd steer clear of anything older than 3-4 years, but that's just me. trust me, before i got my caddy, i was looking at the exact same cars---turbo porsches, GTR's, m5's, AMG's, etc. for me, it came down to the ability to put 5 people in the car, and not drive over an hour to have it serviced.
  21. if its not a car you'd daily drive, then i'd avoid the m5, AMG, or any other 4 door cars. its fun to own a 500+hp 4 door car that can haul groceries, and 4 other family members, all the while blowing the doors off most other cars out there. smooth, quiet ride, almost like sitting on a sofa. awesome for highway cruising. but you can still feel the weight of the car---1000 more lbs than the vette. if you're looking for a weekend warrior, that you can absolutely wring the shit out of all day long in stock form, but still take the other half to a nice restaurant in, and look awesome in the process, the vette will fit the bill. i also love the fact my car came with a 5 year, 100k mile warranty. i can absolutely mod the piss out of it, and if all goes to hell, there are plenty of shops comfortable with lsx motors, and the motors themselves are not insanely expensive (compared to the other cars mentioned here)
  22. this. i haven't lived in columbus for 4 years, but lived in tampa for a year, and lex and terry were great. tampa had morning show battles of epic proportions: lex and terry vs. the mj show vs. bubba the love sponge bob and tom is all i have left right now in wisconsin. doesn't matter, i live 4 miles from work
  23. vette. just got done driving mine and i'm still grinning ear to ear. if you're considering spending $90k on a car, you need to look at some other high end players imo. some of the newer AMG benzes are twin turbo V8's that would likely hit 600hp with just a tune. the newer m5's are getting the twin turbo v8 from the x5m, and could be at 600hp with a tune. these could easily qualify as daily drivers and family cars as well, while still raping the shit out of 99% of anything you come across. decisions, decisions. if you haven't done so already, you need to take a drive in a c6z. 90mph in second gear, anyone??
  24. great intro. welcome to the site
  25. my GTO used to hit 200 all the time. it was real easy. in the menu/settings section, you can set the speedometer to kmph, and you'll see 200 no problem. sucks dude
