  1. Won't make this one. I have to work at 8am.
  2. It's fantastic out of the box. No argument. But compromises have to be made for 'Ol Joe who wants to revive his youth and drive it to the golf course and doesn't want his dentures to fall out on the highway. I'm simply tuning some of that compromise out.
  3. Actually the TRD duckbill is less of a wing than what I've got now. Definitely. Do the tips count as 1 or 2 items? That will come after the warranty, if I don't trade up to a FI version. Oh ye of little faith..
  4. :lolguy: I'm getting an eta on the TRD duckbill. Still waiting on RCE's suspension pieces to be released and for the wheels to arrive. "Hurry up and wait!" The early-adopter motto. :fuuuu:
  5. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8039&d=1338893588 Awesome. But not $1200 awesome.
  6. Let's see. I'm ok with a girl being a little overweight. Hell, I am. I met this one girl on match.com and she said she was a little overwight, but not THAT fat. When we met for lunch she was a freakin' beachball on legs that had trouble fitting in the booth seat. The only time I ever went on a date with a woman who didn't have a profile picture turned out to look JUST like one of my uncles. I'm not talking just a family resemblance. I'm talking strip the makeup and they could be twins. I guess the moral of the story is, be prepared to go through a few matches. The girl I'm dating now I met on a matchmaking site. We seem to mesh pretty well.
  7. The AFRs stay pretty stable and end up a bit on the rich side. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=6032&stc=1&d=1333656727
  8. Oh yeah, I haven't tried a helmet yet, but I'm sure I'll fit. There's tons of legroom. I had someone who was 6'2" and a 36" inseam sit in the car comfortably.
  9. No one's really sure. But it does crop up in other GDI engines. Some think it's due to changes in cam timing coupled with a change in injector logic. If the open source tuning community cracks the ECU, I think we'll get a good idea on what's causing it and whether it's a good idea to try and tune it out or not. The thing is, I don't see a huge need to tune it out. It's a dip in power, but it's in an area that doesn't need to be utilized. Around town driving can easily be handled by the low end torque lump and performance driving can be served by the high end.
  10. Until the ECU corrects and returns the car to OEM power. ECU tuners will be in high demand for these cars. Oh, and I won't put anything Perrin on my car.
  11. The new Miata should be pretty good if all the rumors are true. Supposedly they're trimming the fat again and tightening up the suspension. They also unveiled a 240hp concept the other day.
  12. Yeah, it was clearly done by Toyota, but you can still get a feel for the capabilities of the chassis when compared to other cars of the same size. The Miata comparisons are pretty telling.
  13. Dunlop Direzza Z1*spec tires are pretty much the go-to tire for AutoX. They have an excellent grip/price ratio. Hankook RS3s and Toyo Proxes R1Rs are other good choices. If you're just putting them on your stock wheels, you'll be ok as classing goes. Oh, helmets must be certified by a recognized organization (Snell is the most common). Your helmet must be SA2000 or M2000 or newer. If you're buying a helmet now I would highly recommend getting a SA2010 rated one. It will last the longest and work for events that require SA ratings.
  14. Thought this was a rather cool comparison. They seem to focus on the GT86 vs Miata comparison more.
  15. It would be tough to do a short explanation since it would involve CG height, weight transfer, roll and instantaneous centers, roll couple, and corner rates. But I really think this is a chassis that will respond to better spring rates to control body roll than sway bars. But we'll see when I go to 250lb/in springs and sticky tires. Speaking of which, saw a great handling comparison. I'll post the video.
  16. Wheels should be here by the end of the month. I think they might be too lightly colored for the look I want. But I guess I can get them powdercoated. Ultimately what it came down to was, they are a 15lb (possibly sub-15) wheel that looks good.
  17. Front control arms off the 08+ might work. But for packaging reasons they are reversed in the BRZ/FR-S. So I'm not sure if the bushings would need to be flipped or not. Rear suspension is the same type of design, but there aren't a lot of directly swappable parts that I know of. However the rear sway bar and endlinks are a direct swap. THe problem with the sway is that, because the BRZ's CG is so low, the stock rear sway is only 14mm. Going to a STI sway would be a HUGE increase in roll stiffness and would likely result in snap oversteer.
  18. This is kind of turning into a Journal thread. Mods can move if they so wish. Or leave it here. I'll have more pics as I do more to the car.
  19. Yup, great advice. Just show up and drive and see if AutoX is something you want to pursue. If it is, then the usual progression is to pick the class you want to compete in and *then* plan your budget and mods. If you mod first you may find yourself bumped out of the class you would have been competitive in sue to one mod you may not have needed anyways. For example, there's a simple mod on my STI that replaces the rear control arm mounts. But because it moves those mounts (less than 1/2") it bumps what should be a streetable STU car into Prepared which is home to stripped-out dedicated racers. So arrive and drive then start a plan.
  20. Ok, I'm pretty much committed to a set of these: http://www.ravspeconline.com/shop/catalog/images/tc105-1789-1452.jpg WedsSport TC105n 17x8+42 in Titanium Bronze. I'll bolt them up to see how they look and make a final decision about powdercoat.
  21. Thanks. Ideas are plentiful, decisions are what I'm short on.
  22. Lots of ugly in that thread. This one: http://cdn.mkimg.carview.co.jp/minkara/parts/000/004/536/584/4536584/p1.jpg?ct=c838e3dabccf ..makes me think Alleggeritas might not look too bad on the car.
