  1. That's very kind of you to say, but in my case, the compliment is undeserved. Truth be told, I suspect I know less about cars than D. Wiggs does. However, I know that I'm ignorant in many areas and I'm blessed to have knowledgeable friends who are generous with their time in helping me with my cars and are patient enough to teach me enough to (generally) keep me out of serious trouble with them. Despite his vastly superior resources compared to mine, and despite his greater knowledge in many areas, I suspect he either doesn't have the quality of friends I have or else is so full of hubris that he doesn't heed their advice. I've never met the man, but it would be hard to imagine that he has as much fun with his lavish toys as I have with mine which are so paltry by comparison.
  2. Bumping so that I don't hear "I didn't know about your open house" a week from now. It's this coming Sunday, October 7th. The forecast as of now is 40 degrees, slight chance for a shower. The hangout and garage will be a cozy 70. I've confirmed with Steve that he'll be there at 9. So, if you need to leave at 10 or so to register at the Zoo car show, you'll have plenty of time to chat with him if you want. I'll have coffee and also Keurig versions of hot cocoa, hot apple cider, and tea. The frig is stocked with the usual beverages. I'll have a good supply of authentic Hamburger Inn Cinnamon rolls and a few dozen donuts ... a great way to sober up from Sean and Ericka's Saturday night bash! I apologize that the cars and the garage are not up to snuff ..... I'll use my lousy back as my excuse for not having the place look sharper. But, I figure you guys won't mind a cobweb here or there. Just a reminder -- it's a family friendly event. If there are kids around you, please watch the language. Smoking is fine outside the front door or in the parking lots. Butts into the receptacle please, not thrown on the pavement, shrubs, or sidewalk. No smoking in the garage and offices. Questions or problems finding the place, call me: 740-405-5565
  3. Congratulations, Paul. Identical twins (monozygotic) occur worldwide at a rate of about 3 in 1000 births. Fraternal twins (dizygotic, e.g., two fetuses from two eggs in the same pregnancy) occur at a rate that varies widely from country to country, from 6 in 1000 births, to 20 in 1000 births. Science lesson aside ...... every child is rare, precious, and a miracle.
  4. You're two years late to the party, fellas http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1284119&postcount=29
  5. Kevin's too modest to mention that he once again took first place in his category. Also Robert (Onebadmr) took 2nd place in the Toyota class. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/champ.gif Beautiful cars, gents. I always have fun at IFO events.
  6. Looking good, Mr. R. You've eliminated nearly all of that rocking in the rear. What is your winter project for the car?
  7. Great car, Casey. Knowing you, this will become the cleanest one in town.
  8. What is that .... some kinda newfangled Edison machine? I'll keep my music analogue, thank-you. Here's your 2012 back. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/singleendedtriodeamp.jpg
  9. Many thanks for the photos and video. I promise not to take advantage of your free photography services for at least a week.
  10. A VW bug blew up on the track and spewed fluids all over. It was the longest shutdown of the day. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1551005&postcount=40
  11. Bentley is banned for life. It could have fire suppression, cage, chute, doesn't matter. No more ECTA runs for it. My suspension was only for 30 days. But believe me, some of the ECTA folks still give me the evil glare. Nowhere near the official car of CR. Perhaps the official mascot, though! :lolguy: Many thanks to Brian and LeeAnn for getting the photos and video. You were a great support. It wasn't until after I left that I realized that since Brian was listed officially as a crew member, he gets to share the bragging rights, too: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/DSCN0773.jpg
  12. Waiting in line for tech inspection. Hmmm. Almost everybody else has a drag chute. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/Viewtinline.jpg Looks like everyone else brought a big engine to this party http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/bigengine.jpg Thank goodness .... a Crosley owner. 1951. Bound to have a tiny motor. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/Crosleyfront.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/Crosleyrear.jpg Yep. 38 cubic inches. Someone I can trounce. :fuckyeah: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/Crosleyengine.jpg Teched and stickered. Tomorrow we run. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/sept%2012%20ohio%20mile/stickers.jpg
  13. I did a lot of research before buying, in hopes that this coffee grinder can be my last. I bought the Baratza Virtuoso Preciso and have been very pleased. Some reviewers feel it doesn't hold up to regular espresso grinding, but I don't grind that fine. http://www.amazon.com/Baratza-Virtuoso-Preciso-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B003JFCRN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348790717&sr=8-1&keywords=baratza+virtuoso+preciso
  14. Not a problem, Aaron. Wags has me covered on the pics. However, I hope you can still make it. I think you'd like the scene.
  15. I'll crew fer ya. We can use the banned Bentley as the pit vehicle--that would be sure to annoy them.
  16. Nope. At least that was what they told us in the drivers meeting in April. Did you forget who these guys are? http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/rules.gif (116 page rule book available for review anytime at the hangout)
  17. They don't allow go-pros in the cars except for the media people. I will ask if I can get a crew bracelet for you. I think you have to get those in person on Friday at registration, but considering my *special status* with the officials, I might be able to pull it off. :lolguy: Thanks so much for helping with this. Text me when you're on your way there. I expect I'll make just one run. Although I'll try to stage early, there's gonna be a ton of bikes there and it's hard for me to gauge when I'll actually go down the track. But as I told Aaron, if I get your ETA, I can jockey around in the staging lanes a bit. I'd love to make my run early and then just go around with the CR guys and hang out.
  18. You're welcome to go with me Friday, Jason. No pics to take that day, and we can drive the Viewt up and down the pits instead of walking. (My walking is pretty impaired right now and I know you have to limit yours, too). It's also the short day, when I'm done in tech, we can leave whenever you're ready.
  19. Thanks, Alex. I'm not sure which official gave you the story, but a couple of them are pretty ..... excitable, might be a good word for it. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/rules.gif Keith Turk, the Racing Director, is actually a very reasonable guy. He did call me a "dickwad," but I don't hold that against him. The vast majority of the group are great guys, and a few of them are real Burt Munro types. They actually congratulate you after you break the rules and then tell you a story from Bonneville from the 60's. The Viewt isn't going to set any records, but I think that little car, with the exhaust cutout open and the pedal to the floor, is going to be an unusual and unexpected experience for the spectators.
  20. It appears you were misinformed. As I wrote in the thread about the event, the Bentley is banned for life. Perhaps the official thought you were talking about the guy who made a glory pass on his first safety run. That is a big no-no and he was banned for life. I completed all my safety runs by the book. The car was banned because I broke out of my safety class speed. This is one of the threads which explained things: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103147&highlight=wilmington The Viewt's registration number for this weekend's event is 9549 and payment was accepted over two months ago.
  21. Looks as though the coffee cognoscenti here all like press pots. I agree that there's a time and place for French press coffee (perhaps 1935, Yugoslavia?), but I wouldn't recommend that route for you, Ryan. First, if you don't get a quality burr grinder, a French press probably won't give you a good result, because even on the coursest grind setting, a cheapo grinder will give you some fine particles, which will end up passing through the screen of the French press and will quickly make your cup bitter. Most Americans don't like grounds in their cup, either. :barf: A major reason people transitioned to filter type coffeemakers was to get rid of some of the oils that remain in even a well-prepared cup from a French press. Some folks prefer these oils in their coffee, and they argue the oils make the coffee more flavorful. I believe that's true. However, the oils contain high concentrations of some of the bad elements of coffee which are believed to contribute to heart disease. And the oils in less expensive coffees can be bitter. American tastes tend to run along the lines of drip/filtered coffee for taste and for convenience. I prefer a commercial Bunn coffeemaker (I own a VP-17) because of its speed and dependability, but it's more maintenance than most people are willing to do. I'd suggest a good water filter system and any standard drip machine with good online reviews. If you're going to grind your own beans, set aside at least $200-300 for a quality burr grinder, otherwise, don't waste the money on a cheap blade grinder--have your coffee ground where you buy it. Nothing wrong with owning a French press, an espresso maker, and an ibrick for Turkish coffee. But I don't think that any of those will be satisfactory for your everyday cup. I watched the video for the Technivorm. That seems way too expensive for what it is and it looked rather fragile. Are you really willing to wait during the brew cycle to re-adjust the brew lever two times? In the time it would take someone to make a pot of coffee with that Technivorm, I'd have my pot of coffee brewed and my toast, bacon and eggs prepared and half eaten. That's my .02
  22. No, it's a matter of staging, and it's hard to predict when the track might shut down and for how long. If I know you're on your way, I can jockey around to make it work, though.
  23. Great, Aaron. If you go, text me on your way there and we'll meet up at the track.
  24. After a month of troubleshooting (special thanks to Crossle, Cordell & Alex) and numerous sessions of wrenching by the techs at MD transmission and (especially) Wonderboy, the Viewt again moves under it's own power! http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/happyanim.gif http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Viewt%20stickered%20for%20Rally/atgatebutlevelleftfront.jpg And just in the nick of time, too, because it's running in the Ohio Mile this weekend. This will be the last ECTA event of 2012. I could use someone to take some photos of my run, which I suspect will be the first and the last at the Ohio Mile for the brave little Viewt. This mouse is going to ROAR, if only once! If you haven't seen the Mile, it's a good opportunity for you, as I'll provide your ride and pay your admission for the weekend. The event runs Friday through Sunday, but I'll only be there Friday for registration and tech, then Saturday to run. If you're interested, I need to leave Columbus Friday at 9 a.m. and we would be done early afternoon. On Saturday I need to leave Columbus by 6:30 a.m. and we would be back late afternoon. If you're considering participating in the event in 2013, this would be a great introduction for you. If you're attending on your own, please contact me if you're willing to shoot a few pics of the Viewt on the track. I'll gladly buy your lunch in exchange. Video by Hot Rod on the first event this year: Pics from Wags: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104047&highlight=ohio+mile Pics from Silver Twin, Crawdad and a few from me: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103015&highlight=wilmington
