I'm happy to see the place put to good use. Although it's been great to get back to the parking lots again, the hangout will still open when needed. Also, I hope to have an open house again in May. I've got a special guest I'd like CR to meet. We're trying to work out dates because CR will have an autocross date in May (which hasn't been determined yet), and I don't want to conflict with that.

There's no reason you couldn't use the same shotgun for home defense and for shooting clays, but the best shotgun for one application will not be the best for the other. For example, most people would favor a short barrel pump shotgun for home defense, whereas most trap is shot with either a single shot or an O/U long barrel shotgun. Skeet and sporting clays, a little different still. But as I said, you can use the 870 for both. Perhaps, buy the 870 and if you end up really liking clays, make a 2nd shotgun purchase later, more specialized to what you decide to shoot. Your gun fit is going to become very important with clay target shooting if you want to get good.

Ummm. Perhaps I should point out to you that since he's repped-in, he's unable to view this thread. But don't let that stop you from waiting to see what he has to say.

Pics from Cars & Coffee, March 17th

Great photos, as always Tim. But we want MORE! -
Well, the rain date is Friday, May 6th, so check on that, just in case we're postponed. The summer drag event may be at Kil-Kare (near Xenia) and the fall one is in November at Dragway 42. The rentals are lots of fun. I hope you can find a date that works for you. +rep

Welcome to CR. Your car looks pretty angry. What mod's have you done? Any other projects in the works? We've got a NT track rental coming up next month. I hope you make it out--I'd like to see your car run.

I'm thinking I need to turn this automotive artisan loose on the Bentley. I'm hoping he can saw through the walnut burl dash as artfully as he did on his Honda HUD switch install. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/fucked20up20dash.jpg If I don't act fast, he'll be booked for two years in advance ......

Zero cops at the lot. Guys said they saw a number of them on the way there, but it was St. Patty's Day, afterall. I never fail to acquire a police escort on Sawmill as I start for home from HD. I still haven't figured where they lurk that they are able to swoop down on me so fast. But I was doing all of 45mph, left HD by myself. I've never been pulled over by these escorts, but they've had as many as three city police vehicles around me as I drive for home. I would say it was just a coincidence, but it happens 75% of the times I leave HD. They really need to be more supportive of senior citizens trying to remain active ......

Remarkable. Looks almost factory.

IIRC, she was skinnier than that. Aaron was drawn in scale, however.

I don't get it. It seemed sensible to me. Just another PSA.

Some of us went to lunch afterwards and we were guessing 60-70 cars were there. It was very impressive. Some of the non-CR folks were cool and brought some great cars. Thanks to Clay and to the others who helped promote this C&C with other groups. Because I got there halfway through, I didn't get to talk to some of the people from CR I haven't met, but I hope the newbs keep coming to events and I'll make more effort to meet them.

I wouldn't count on that. He continued to drive his car without any headlights on and continued to drive it fast. (He didn't seem to be the sharpest pencil in the drawer.) Oh, and it seems I forgot to mention: it was an RC car he was driving. I suppose I should have been clear about that in the first post.

Great start to the season. Good to see old friends again. I see some of the new members are pretty shy about introducing themselves .... no reason to be ...... we're all pretty friendly if you just walk up and say hi. After the lights went out our favorite ginger got hit by a car going way too fast in the lot ..... fortunately he just got knocked down and wasn't hurt. In typical CR fashion, the first remark by those of us who witnessed the accident was, "Gee, I wish I'd caught that on video." :dumb:

Please do. I'm hoping that we'll see a lot of new faces tonight. We shouldn't be hard to find at Sawmill. I will no doubt be plopped in a folding chair next to the Bentley. I should say, the black Bentley, in case there's another one there tonight.
-
If (and that's a big "if" BTW) the weather forecast holds true, the rain should be over later this afternoon and the roads should be dry tonight. The temps are predicted to stay above 60 all the way until midnight. If the weather shapes up as expected, should tonight be our night to re-establish our turf on Sawmill? If so, anyone down for Five Guys on Bethel at 8:30, then head to Sawmill before 10? On the other hand, if it's rainy, I'll figure on opening the hangout.

http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/ducati.jpg I think there's at least some truth in what each of you are saying, even though you disagree with each other. Ducati has been competitive in some racing categories, not in others. The company has had pretty rocky times with its sales figures and finances. If you value specs and straight-line performance, Ducati isn't a very good value. But there's more to the story than that. I wouldn't consider a Miata or a Lotus to be junk just because it has a slow time in the quarter mile. I wouldn't consider all Firebirds failures just because their brand is defunct or because their parent company went bankrupt. I wouldn't consider a Ferrari trash because it wasn't a good "value." I like the brand in general. Not every model, but the superbikes and cafes especially. I've owned 21 motorcycles now and can pretty much have any make/model there is. There's only one bike that ever left me stranded, and that was the Ducati 999. There's also only one bike that I can't bring myself to sell, and that's also the Ducati 999. More than any other bike I've ridden, the triple niner seems to almost have a "soul." Riding it is seems closer, to my mind, to riding a living, breathing being than it is to riding just a machine. It seems to never fail to lift my spirits. If you're a motorcyclist, I think you'll understand the feeling. My femme fatale, my siren ... http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/999.jpg I hope a purchase by Audi will give Ducati financial stability and infuse resources for R&D and product improvement.

If the forecast is right and it dries out by Saturday, it should be a great turnout. Even at that, I figure about half the people who post that they're going will actually show. I've got a breakfast meeting at Polaris but hope to show up around 9:30. I look forward to meeting some of the rarer species of CR.

Feel free to meet at the hangout, just let me know if you need it open. I little trip up SR 257 to Prospect and then back on SR 203 should make for a nice drive.

But, isn't that your job?

The having sex with your car thing sounded pretty strange to me, but when you see the segment and hear the guy's explanation, you realize how completely normal it all is:

How about a "P" ?

That was pretty fast. This Dr. C person appears to know something about computers. Anyone know who he is? Maybe Anthony can make him a moderator or somethin' http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/confused0006.gif

Okey-dokey. No one's interested (on short notice), so I'm headed out now. I think I'll head north along the Scioto but will stop around 1:30 or so to check my phone. If you have some interest in meeting near columbus (say at Polaris Sonic) later, send me a text and we'll do-et.
