  1. Brian, you're welcome to borrow mine if you want to try it out on the range (Blackwing is just 3 miles from the hangout) or take it for a week or two if you want to shoot with friends elsewhere. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/shotguns/870full.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/shotguns/intruderwelcomingcommittee.jpg
  2. :gtfo:Don't exaggerate--the price was only $295,000, and that's for the pair. That's a gun best used for shooting driven fowl, and should be handed to you by a gamekeeper. I can't imagine shooting an intruder with such an elegant weapon .... although it might be appropriate to shoot a king with such a gun. Well, if I were a billionaire, I'd want one. And I'd use it. Although you're right, it's a work of art. Made by some of the world's best gunsmiths and engraved Bulino style -- so sublime, magical. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/22812-22813-9T.jpg
  3. In that case, then: http://www.csmcspecials.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=45 (arranged low to high)
  4. Yes, it "answers the demands of the enthusiasts," but the answer really isn't good enough. It would have been a great car a decade ago, and it would be a good value at the original price the makers touted. As it is, though, it isn't the Second Coming that it was hyped to be. Maybe when these are common on the road, they'll redeem themselves and the stat worshipers will be shouted down. Or perhaps some aftermarket wizardry will make them desirable to a wider market. Like many, I had a lot of hope for this product, but so far I'm feeling a bit let down. Time will tell.
  5. Very cool, but you're also talking some serious coin to "take the Cure at White Sulphur" if you intend on doing much there.
  6. Many thanks for the donations made so far. One question came up that I should have addressed, but didn't: How do I get my receipt for a tax deduction? Answer: Very shortly after you make an online donation, you get an email thank-you which includes the following: Here's an acknowledgment - you should keep this for your records: Date: 10/19/2011 10:20:07 AM Donor name: Joe Racer Donor address: Interstate 71 North Delaware, OH 43015 Amount: 503.85 Nonprofit name: ACCELERATED CURE PROJECT INC (Tax ID #04-3555864) Nonprofit address: 300 Fifth Ave Waltham, Massachusetts 02451 Donation reference: D4129157 If you need further verification, or a letter stating that you bought advertising for your business with your donation, I'll be happy to supply that on my business letterhead. Sorry for not posting this info earlier. If you have any problems or questions about donating, feel free to PM me. Thanks!
  7. As some of you know, Kyle (Mahle) and I are running in Rally Dixie 2012 with Rally North America in June. Every year a different charity is chosen to benefit from the event, instead of having prizes for the winners. This year, The Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis is the charity. http://www.acceleratedcure.org/ I'm impressed with what they are doing, and the charity is top-rated for finances, accountability, and transparency. We are asking our friends (who are comfortable donating) to make an online donation through our page at First Giving: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/dox Even five or ten dollars will make a difference. Your donation goes through First Giving to The Accelerated Cure Project; none of it goes to the Rally or to our team. We are donating our time and paying all our own expenses (of course, we have a lot of fun in return, too). We're asking businesses to donate $50, and at that level we'll put your business advertising on the Rally Car: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/WRC%20Rally/left3qtr.jpg The other CR teams (Mojoe, MKIVAaron, FyrhzrdGT) are also raising money, so feel free to contact them if you'd like to donate in their team name instead. Thanks!
  8. I used to drive Jag XKR's and VDP's. Either would fit the bill nicely. Here's an XKR for under 30k: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-JAGUAR-XKR-SUPRCHARGD-BLK-BLK-NAV-HEATED-STS-PDC-390HP-XENON-1-OWNR-20-WHLS-/300706419565?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item46037fd36d Clean, one-owner, supercharged 4.2L V-8. They are surpisingly soft, comfortable cars, scaled more for a thin person than a fatty like me. But they move down the road and make a glorious sound. Full wood interior. You'd be limited to automatic, though.
  9. You're losing traction on some of the sharp turns, causing the rear end to swing out. I suggest stickier tires.
  10. It was definitely fun watching you all, even though a could only stay an hour or so. Sean, from what I could see your boss drives pretty tight. Do you know his times?
  11. I'm planning on spectating at the Ohio Mile June event in Wilmington in a few weeks, if the weather is good. Friday, June 1st, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.: no racing, but a good day to walk around, talk to the drivers in the pits, photograph cars Saturday, June 2nd, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.: lots of spectators, racing starts at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 3rd, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.: same as Saturday, although cars begin clearing out in the afternoon I plan on going maybe one or two days and would welcome anyone from CR who would like to ride along/drive along/maybe motorcycle along. Admission is $10 for one day and $15 for the whole weekend. Food vendors are on site. If you want contacted a few days before the event to iron out the details, post to the thread. Which day(s) I go will depend on the weather. It's a little over an hour from Columbus. This is an excellent ten-minute video produced by Hot Rod magazine covering last month's event:
  12. Welcome, Ben. Your expertise could be a real asset to many of us here. You and your family might even look into site sponsorship -- CR members are pretty loyal to our sponsors. I hope you make it out to some of our meets and events, fast car or not. Just curious, what cars do you and your family use as daily drivers?
  13. I've always liked those, Ryan. I suspect that accomplishing your goals with the car is going to end up being more like a part-time job than a hobby, but more power to you, friend.
  14. Andy (AudiOn19s) would be a good one to ask this. I know he sells microfiber detailing supplies, and perhaps he can get you high quality pads as well. If not, he'll at least know of a good supplier. FWIW, I buy my pads through Griot's and have been satisfied with their quality and durability. Edit: Andy, you're just too fast
  15. Welcome, Justin. Very generous of you to offer to loan your equipment. I imagine a few of the VAG guys might take you up on that offer sometime. I hope you make it out to our events and meets ..... feel free to introduce yourself if you do. + rep
  16. https://ext.dps.state.oh.us/BMVOnlineServices.Public/DLVerification.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fBMVOnlineServices.Public%2fSecure%2fDriverAbstract.aspx&CookieCheck=true (that took all of 12 seconds on Google) Here's the long version (and how to get a certified hard copy) http://bmv.ohio.gov/abstract.stm
  17. Welcome, Sam. I hope you make it over to some of our events this season. And I'm sure you're aware that IFO is coming back for a second time to NTR this year as well. + rep
  18. You got me there. I admit, I have no idea how a smart phone auto corrects. In fact, I don't even understand how a smart phone works. My idea of high tech text correction is still Eaton's Corrasable Bond (ask your grandparents).
  19. I don't follow your reasoning here, Tim. As I see it, the 401k money was not taxed when it was deposited in the 401k, was not taxed when you took it out as a loan to yourself, but is eventually taxed when you withdraw it at retirement (although likely at a lower rate than when you earned it, depending on your other income, deductions, and prevailing tax rate). That all equals being taxed just once. If you don't borrow from your 401k, then withdraw it during retirement, it's still just taxed once.
  20. If it's authentic and from the Civil Rights era, it might have some historical value. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Protests---Black-Power-jpg.jpg You may want to call-up a museum expert for that one: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/imagesCAMZDM06.jpg
  21. You didn't miss anything--it's not for you. It's for people who are knowledgeable about cars and have attention spans longer than ten seconds. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/ChainGun-1.gif
  22. You're thinking about when you prematurely withdraw funds from your 401k. In that case, you're taxed. Borrowing from a 401k does not change your taxes.
  23. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/the_whole_lie.jpg This is my friend's second novel, just published last week and available pretty much everywhere (Barnes & Nobles, Amazon) as a hardback or as an e-book. It opens, When Savvy Kane walked into my shop, I was wrestling the rotted muffler from a Maxima. It's not a pretty job. Rust flakes, road crud, frozen bolts. Cursing involved. As I gave a final twist, the customer door swung open. I looked. I looked again. My jaw dropped. The muffler dropped. It weighed thirty pounds, and every one of them landed on my right boot. Her name was Savannah, but when I'd met her in a biker bar on the south side of Owensboro, Kentucky, all the Harley boys had called her Savvy. It wasn't hard to see why. She didn't pay for a drink all night. And she drank a lot. I just finished reading it and think it's another great book for someone into cars and into film noir. I wrote a mini-review of his first book in the series here: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1484285&postcount=4 Steve planned on being in Ohio this month and agreed to come to the hangout with a film crew for an open house with CR. Unfortunately, his touring schedule filled before we could nail-down a weekend. His first book just went to paperback this month, second novel just published, and he's finishing the deal on the third in the series. His publisher has him out making the rounds doing talks and book-signings. He's lecturing at Ohio Wesleyan in October so watch this fall for a thread on here about a reception for him at the hangout. His book is $16 hardcover, $12 e-book. If you want an inscribed and autographed first edition for yourself or as a gift, PM me with the message you want him to write, and I'll put together an order with him. Here's his website if you want to know more: http://www.ulfelder.com/site/
  24. If your 401k is set-up like mine, it may work out to your favor. Here are some potential advantages: 1) It does not show on a credit report as a loan 2) You're paying yourself the interest (the money is not lost to you) However, if your 401k is currently invested in a product earning more than your exisiting loan rate, I'm not sure you would net-out ahead. I would also check to see what fees may apply. Mine were low (IIRC $50 on a 50k loan). Perhaps the financial experts on here can chime-in with other views, but I've borrowed from my 401k before and found it to be no hassle.
