  1. Things are starting to come together. So far we have Lucore, Rock Auto, and the US Army on board as sponsors. We'll continue to take offers of cash or product (that we can raffle off) for sponsorship. Very soon I'm going to come looking for people to be judges. As of right now the qualifications I am looking for in a judge is a pulse and a smart phone. I'm only partially kidding, but if it gets bad, then the pulse requirement will probably become negotiable. Judging will be done on smart phones, so that one is a requirement.
  2. If I can sort out what's wrong with my transmission I will probably sign up. I hate killing a personal day this early in the school year though.
  3. Cool! Happy to have you as a sponsor! I'll PM you my contact info.
  4. According to NASA anything shade 12 or higher is fine. Viewing with Protection -- Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find. The AAS Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters & Viewers page (link is external) doesn't list any suppliers of welder's filters, only suppliers of special-purpose filters made for viewing the Sun.To find out more about eyewear and handheld viewers go to https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/eyewear-viewers (link is external). Clipped from https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety I'm planning on using my hood turned up to 13 and a tactical flashlight over the sensor to make sure it triggers and stays dark.
  5. I don't have a problem if you want to sell out of your booth, as long as it doesn't interfere with the show's profits, or violates some board policy. Brian is a good friend of mine as well. As of right now I don't think we have any dealers on board. The more the merrier as long as it brings in more money for the kids.
  6. Supposed to make it sound better. The speaker in the echo dot isn't very good. The cone inside the stand is supposed to help. I'll be honest, I haven't tried it side by side yet. A buddy has a DJI Mavic drone and he broke the gimble plate on it. I printed another one for him last night. He was all geeked out about it since it was going to cost him a small fortune to buy a whole new gimble assembly he said. Cost me a few cents in PLA and took a whole 15 minutes to print (probably less actually).
  7. Yep, this is has become my baby. They already reached out to us and are going to be a show sponsor and bring out some gear.
  8. This is a stand for my echo dot. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=590&pictureid=8887 I downloaded it from Thingiverse. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2086867
  9. Not through that site. I'll manage the judges and organization staff through that site, but probably won't be sorting out assignments until a little closer to the event. If you're interested in being a judge then message me your contact info and I'll get in contact once we get staffing sorted out. Thanks!
  10. We've kicked around the idea for years of holding a car show as a fund raiser for our student organizations. We finally pulled the trigger on it and we're going to make it happen. Since I'm in a student leadership position and I'm a car guy I got handed the opportunity to make this happen. We have a small group within the school working with me on this. We're planning on this being an annual event. We're running the organization of the show through a service called Car Show Pro. The site for the show is: https://carshowpro.com/event/123 Pre registration is up as of this afternoon. The details are on that site. There is also a facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1232478353546689/ The date for the show is October 7th, so we're definitely behind on setup, but we're making progress. We're looking for sponsors, judges, volunteers, etc.... We should have a legit web page up for the show soon. We're trying to keep things simple this first year. $100 to be a show sponsor, logo on the promotional materials and recognition at the show. As a perk, a sponsor can set up a tent/booth at the show if they would like. We're also looking for donations to be used as raffle prizes or even silent auction items. If anyone is interested in being a sponsor or volunteering please let me know and I'll put you on the list. Show classes will be: Trucks Modern Muscle Cars Vintage Muscle Cars Sport Bikes (Motorcycles) Cruisers (Motorcycles) Vintage Motorcycles Rad Rod Cars Tuners (modified import cars) Cars 1949 and earlier Cars from the 1950s Cars from the 1960s Cars from the 1970s Cars from the 1980s Cars from the 1990s Modern European Cars Vintage European Cars Modern non-European import Cars Vintage non-European import Cars Student (Tolles registered students) Awards will also be given for the best project car, best represented club, peoples choice, etc... I'm sure we're missing some classes, but we're anticipating this will be a smallish show to start, so we don't want to spend huge on trophies right off the bat. We'll also be giving plaques as well as trophies.
  11. Cool, I was going to offer to print it as well. I'm sure the printers at the idea foundry are much better than mine. But if anyone is interested in trying out 3D printing at home I highly recommend the iMakr Startt printer. I bought one this spring and have been experimenting with it on and off all summer. Printer is $100 ($35 shipping from England). The bed can handle roughly anything that would fit in a 4 inch cube. I've easily gotten $100 in entertainment out of it just fiddling and making simple stupid stuff.
  12. Anyone know whether a welding helmet would provide decent eye protection to watch the eclipse? I'm finding a little info on google, but nothing from any source I would consider reliable.
  13. Not Craigslist, this is somehow more ridiculous. https://www.copart.com/lot/45373276/Photos
  14. If I wasn't back to school by then I would absolutely travel down for it. It's not that far, and seeing the day go night for even a few seconds and then coming back would be incredible.

  16. I assume Dyno Brian can handle something that simple. https://www.facebook.com/DynoTuneMotorsports/
  17. 614 Automotive, Eric Grimes is set up with a full machine shop. Will probably do it while you wait. 2080 Fairwood Ave. Columbus, Ohio (614) 641-0150
  18. That's not a terrible idea. I'm sick of dealing with it right now. I have one more guy who wants to take a look, if nothing comes of that I'll pull it down for a couple months.
  19. And the latest asshat gushes about how much he likes the car. Has cash in hand he says. Want's my bottom dollar he says. I invite him to make an offer. He says he's going to grab a bite to eat with his girl and he may come back and look at the car again even. Get a text a couple hours later saying he's been looking around, and with the high milage he can only offer me $2000. KBB lowest value on the car is $2500 (and KBB has always been low on these cars) NADA lowest is $6500 (I know that is retail so I have adjusted my price accordingly) I have the second lowest priced Impala SS on craigslist, and the lowest priced one is a horror show. I have the second lowest priced one on Autotrader, and the lowest isn't an Impala, it's a standard Caprice. Fuck these people.
  20. We're putting together a car show/craft show this fall as a fund raiser for our student activities. We're hoping to make it an annual thing and grow it into an event that will cover a lot of our fundraising in one event. I know this will start small and we may even lose a little money on it the first year. Since I'm a car guy and since I'm one of the club advisers I got handed the opportunity to run the car show side of the event. I've never done this, so I'm trying to work my way through what needs done. I stumbled on a software company that makes a product called CarShowPro. It lookes like a web based software to run car shows. Registration, judging, reports, scoring, etc... are all handled through their system. The cost doesn't look terrible either, $1 per registration. It looks like it could take a lot of the work off my plate and handle it online. Even the judges would use a virtual judging form on a tablet. Has anyone used this service or any like it and have some feedback? I have a lot on my plate already, and while I like the challenge of putting this together, I'm also a tech kind of guy and if their system handles all the grunt work I'm all for it. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
  21. Still for sale, tire kickers, payment makers and trade offers galore. Nobody with cash yet. Finally got the truck sold, so selling this is less of a priority now. I can sit on it if I have too.
  22. I would try 614 Automotive. I messaged him and he's not positive he has the hub adapters for his lathe, he won't know that till he sees the drums. (614) 641-0150 https://www.facebook.com/614-Automotive-llc-520320274759885/
  23. Congrats man! That's impressive. It's tough to keep going, but it's worth it in the end.
  24. Cool! My wife was asking me to find her a couple old steel wheels for a project she wants to do.
