Another good option is a guy on the west side by the name of Eric Grimes. He's a mechanical engineer with a small machine shop. His work is top quality and probably less expensive than most would be. If nothing else I recommend you talk with him about your project. This guy has forgotten more about going fast than I will ever know. All I have is his work email address. Let me know and I'll PM it to you.

Buying a Truck out of state, who has done this?
Richard Cranium replied to Berto's topic in Passing Lane
I had a Dodge I bought from Penn. The inspection is as simple as stated. Basically if the VIN, color, make, model all match you're golden. Also the video sounds like a good idea. Friend bought a corvette on ebay. Got it with a cracked windshield and cracked dash. If you're spending a chunk, it might be worth while to find a someone local to inspect it for you. That way you can document any damage before shipping, then if it comes in with more damage than you expected you can maybe get some money from the transport company. -
I know a couple guys at Chase, I'll check with them. But the whole thing sounds a little fishy to me. $25 for a service call? You could spend 30 minutes each way, so that's 2.5 hours if everything goes well. That's $10 per hour. My big question is what happens when it takes 3 or 4 hours to solve a problem. Heck, a simple defrag will take up most of that 1.5 hours you're getting paid for. But, you gotta start somewhere. If IT is where you want to go, why not consider Teleperformance (used to be calltech). I send my students there all the time. I've heard it's a sucky place to work, but it's easy to get hired and start racking up experience in the IT field. Move on once you have enough experience to find a job you actually want.

Since my speedo is broken in the Camaro, the GPS Speed app has been great.

I love it. Colleges have been bitching for years that students have not been adequately prepared. And college professors are telling students to forget everything they learned in highschool? So, who here was ready for college after finishing the 8th grade? Hmmm, lets see. Algebra, Geometry, pre-calc, calculus, government, economics, physics, chemistry .... This is useless information? That is one of the most retarded things I have heard. Also ... racing is nothing but physics. Force, acceleration, mass, friction, thermodynamics, torque, these are all taught in any high school physics class. Try setting up a suspension without understanding Geometry. BTW, uniforms do help. We went uniform a few years ago and it cut down on a LOT of problems. Not to say we don't have discipline issues with uniform violations, but now it's all very clear cut. You are in uniform, or you are not. Sorry for the thread jack, back to discipline. -

Be careful how you point that finger. If you think it's bullshit, then by all means ... go spend 10s of thousands of dollars getting a masters degree in education, work in a highly political environment for 75% of what your friends are making, and put up with crap from know it all teenagers. The kids who act up in my classroom do so with full knowledge that there is very little I can do about it. When I am wrong and a student catches my mistake I am proud they learned something. However, more often than not I was correct and they did not learn it as well as they thought they did. Either way I believe in rules and I believe in punishment when those rules are not followed. Punishment only works when the student cares about it. Some students do not respond to the available punishments. I would much rather get a kids attention with a smack with a paddle than a couple days out of school suspension (vacation). For the record, I do the job because I love it. But don't think for a minute that I appreciate kids wasting my time. -
I say duals. Unless you're going to smoke it up, then I say stacks.

Met him at the Easyrider show. Seems like a solid guy. Hope he gets back on his feet, then his bike soon. -
I'll check, I the leftover parts from my tuneup. I might have the opti part you need. I also have some odds and ends parts left over from my old Delteq kit. You're welcome to have them. The ebay link is for the ALDL cable from AKM. You can buy your own ($90 plus shipping) or we can use mine. The cable is handy. There is a program called free scan that I have used to monitor the PCM. It will show readouts of all the information the PCM is processing in real time. You can also read codes, including codes that do not throw an SES light. If you decide you want to buy the cable let me know before hand. I might sell you mine. I now need one with both the OBD1 and OBD2 plug. Before with the 95 Z/28 I only needed the OBD2 connector. Now I also have the 94 Impala SS which has the same PCM, but an OBD1 plug. I'm debating on buy the dual plug cable vs. buying a separate cable. The block off plates are something I picked up off ebay too. They are very simple and could be made relatively easily by anyone with basic machine tools. But I think for sub $20 it's easier to just order them and save the hassle. By the time I go buy the materials it's not worth the hassle. Also, they should come with precut gaskets which is handy.

If you have the ALDL cable (I do) PCMforLess can email you the data file for $50. It's a snap to upload. It's similar to flashing the BIOS on a PC if you have ever done that. I've done it twice now. Once after my LT4 Hot Cam fiasco (not the fault of the tune), and initial break in for my 383. I just looked at their site. The FAQ lists an upload yourself service, but I couldn't find any way to order it. The return email from my last dealings with them is: programmer@pcmforless.com I'd be happy to help you do this if you want a hand. WTB - "Stock" Wooden Stock from a 10/22 & the Forend Band
Richard Cranium replied to KillJoy's topic in Other Stuff
I have a wooden stock from a Ruger Mini14 you can have. Not sure if it's close enough or not. Either way it's free. -
Is the 95 Vette OBD1 or OBD2? I know my 95 Camaro is OBD1 PCM with an OBD2 plug. I had PCMforless do my initial tune on my 383 and it was very close. I had the Dyno tune done over at dyno brian's. He has a friend with the software for OBD1. If the Vette is the same configuration as my Camaro I have the cable which makes the PCMforless easy.

Obviously something you would have to be careful with, but the poor mans smoke machine is a cigarette.
-
I'm not much for coffee either, but sounds like a nice way to start a Saturday. We'll see if the Camaro wants to play.

Happy Birthday .... are you old like me now?
-
I've never seen Brian turn down a customer yet. He prides himself on his customer service. I suppose it depends on how busy things are, but I would assume you could get some time for 3 pulls. I don't figure anyone is going to get tuning done that day, that is the one that sucks up the dyno time. Now, that doesn't mean you might not take some crap from the crowd since I'm assuming this will be primarily a GM crowd.

Looks like a decent unit, will run XP with ease. One thing I have noticed though. XP now has so many patches and updates that a machine which ran an early version of XP will bog down under all the additions. Plus, if you toss a bulky virus scanner on it (McAfee or Norton) with all their extra protections that will bog a machine down even more. That leaves enough room in your budget for one of their $170 23" LCD monitors. A nice big monitor is a must these days regardless of your application. You don't stare at the PC all day, you stare at the monitor. I'm also a fan of the advice to buy a system. If you have hardware issues you can drop it off at their service desk and it's now their problem. If you have someone build you a system and their are hardware problems you're looking at 2 weeks to send the component back to get replaced or repaired. Also, many people don't take into account software. They just pirate what they need. That works great until you can't download updates, or run into some other problem.

That looks very similar to the Snap-On box I started with (drawers are reversed right and left). And yeah, it filled up faster than I though. Last summer I got a mid and top box for it.

Both of the stock optis on my cars (Z28 and Impala) both went 130k plus miles without being touched. I think the reliability issues come from aftermarket units. Now, I will agree, putting it behind the water pump was dumb. Not sure how many rocks you have to smoke before that sounds like a good idea. I'm sure they did it because it was convenient to design.

See if you can get the VIN from the guy, then take it down to the title office and ask. If nothing else they should be able to confirm if the bike is stolen or not.
-
You can get the build manual direct from Factory Five. That would be the best way I know to make sure you have all the exact pieces you need. I ordered the GTM manual when I was thinking about building one of them and it is pretty detailed.

Micro Center has 23" widescreen ACER monitors right now for $170. They haven't gotten the best online reviews though. The model they are selling is X233H if you want to do your own research.
