Yesterday on the daily commute to work my "fuel cap" dummy light came on. I had to look up what it meant at first, but after checking, the cap seemed to be tight. Later in the evening my engine light came on (not flashing, just solid). I panicked immediately and parked the car, and read the dusty owner's manual. After checking up on the VW Vortex FAQ, it seems that the coil pack could be one culprit, but there is no change in driving characteristics. However, I don't have access to any kind of scanner to get the code from the ECU. Can anyone of you VW guys (or anyone at all) comment on the fuel cap being loose tripping the check engine light? I've seen it happen on my dad's 350Z and a good friend's VW before, so I am leaning towards that being the issue. Thanks in advance.

After all of that headache and money spent, there's no way I'd part with that car short of having to choose between having a home or a car.

The day will never come where someone else changes my oil for me. That being said - this is a good deal. I'll have to jump on it.

VW - LED interior lights, stubby antenna, and soon a new OEM front fascia / lip thanks to ice. Nissan - stainless steel splash shield, fuel pressure gauge, turbo timer, overdrive water pump pulley, new JWT filter, new upper rad hose, intercooler fender louvers... and soon tracking down a possible vacuum leak before tuning.

Bought my '05 (still MKIV) GLI this past August. I've put about 6k miles on it since then. My thoughts on it (as a DD) are that it is good at a lot of things, although not great in any one category. Maybe that's what makes it so enjoyable and perfect for me as a daily driver. The 1.8T is not a powerhouse, but definitely is fun to drive; it's instant torque allows for spirited-like driving around town without having to tach it out. Honestly though, the interior is really what won me over. The OEM Recaro seats are so comfortable and supportive. The detail inside is what I would expect from a German car, and a nice change from my '95 Integra for sure. Storage space, passenger room, gas mileage and just overall ease of daily driving is impressive imho. Then again, I prefer stiffer suspension to soft, cockpit feel over lounge chair, and boost over amazing mileage. I am not going in depth (because I'm too tired to do so), and my opinion is honestly biased a bit despite this being my first VW. However in the end, I have to say that I really enjoy the car because I bought it for a purpose - fun and practical daily driver, and not a weekend go-fast car. You should definitely get out and drive / ride in one.
