  1. Hwilli, you can first shot at it if you could use it, otherwise I'd be happy to use it somehow. No specific project for it as of yet but the more I build stuff, the wider a variety of scrap I like to have on hand = less trips to buy wood.
  2. Finished the 6 and 1/2 foot four tiered shelf I designed and built, took a couple weeks working on it in stages. Made from re-purposed brazilian tigerwood flooring and the geometric squares built from simple pine but scorched black with a torch and tiny bit of stain. Secured to wall and dressed up with a few of the wife's knick knacks.
  3. Where are you located? I can always use stuff like that for projects... thanks for offering it out vs just burning or chucking it.
  4. Long as it's actually wood and not some type of manufactured compressed wood, then yes, absolutely, can always sand it down or plane it down lightly to get it flat and even. When in doubt, sand it more but always do a small test spot in a more hidden area. Speaking from personal experience. lol That is who I was talking about prior. I've gotten to know them decently well and taken all the woodworking classes they offer and I basically just duplicate their finishing methods as their end products are always stellar with amazing attention to detail. They teach you how to do it in their various classes and is also where I get most of my finishing products as it's generally about $10 bucks cheaper per jar vs other places like Woodcraft, Woodwerks or online.
  5. Yes, I have used just about all of Odie's stuff extensively but only been at it six months or so which means I haven't seen the longevity much yet. That being said, I learned from some of the best in town and they exclusively use Odie's on their products and since they charge and SELL their dining room tables for $5k to $8k and have been for a good number of years now, that indicates to me it has some solid durability for it when properly prepared and applied. I do a layer of Odies' Super Penetrating oil, then a layer of Odie's regular oil, then a layer of Odie's Wood butter with appropriate buffing and 24 hour set up time between each layer. The super pen is a bit thinner and gets down in the grain really well and seals the base layer, then the regular odie's gives it the normal look and protection of odie's, and the wood butter adds a depth and luster to the whole piece that is just a nice touch. I use it on all my projects unless I am doing stain for some reason but I vastly prefer odie's or a natural product vs stain unless I need a specific look. Rubio Monocoat is another finish I want to experiment with a bit as I've seen a lot of other very experienced makers using it a lot but as of yet, I have not used it yet myself.
  6. Made a small side table to compliment the larger cedar piece. Kept it fairly petite sized as I wanted it just big enough to park a cup of coffee and a book. Any larger and it tends to gather all my kids stuff all over it constantly. Half of it here is finished with one coat of Odie's oil (finish I used on both) and half of it unfinished so people could see the stark contrast... One full wet coat on, still needs buffed and cured. Finished and in place! Stepped back view. It's my reading / learning guitar nook...
  7. Couple recent items made for the living room remodel. 6 foot cedar slab with a huge void in it that I filled with epoxy resin...this is what planing down epoxy looks like after it's hardened. Cleaned up, sanded up to 600 grit and three coats of finish applied and installed on top of the half wall. I used a super strong construction adhesive and also a few thin brad nails hidden inside knots so cant hardly see them. Final piece for the bamboo wood and river rock tiles half wall by the front door. The green epoxy goes well with the rest of the room...
  8. Oh damn, I know EXACTLY what that is. SCORE!
  9. Just to pass time, thought it be interesting to see what people have spent or planning on spending their stimulus money on? Not everybody qualified obviously but most did. I want to live vicariously through others as I went the middle age route and invested mine in mutual funds the same day it arrived. Market like this, everything is on sale! I was really tempted to replace some of my shitty brand woodwork tools with non shitty brands though... How about you?
  10. Not sure if that says anything about you OR the type of cars you like to buy. Ha...
  11. /\/\ What he said. Even if it's a fantastic car, you won't sell it with your current methods, at least online or via CR.
  12. Linkage to my exact one. It doesn't go fast, max of 4 MPH but it's designed for ALL day use, day in and day out. https://www.lifespanfitness.com/workplace/treadmill-desks/tr1200-dt3-under-desk-treadmill They have packages with desks as well but I just wanted the treadmill itself with nothing attached so I could use my own hydraulic desk. iMovr was another company that seemed to have legit stuff from when I was researching places.
  13. Another thing to consider potentially. I've been work at home for four plus years now with the career gig and first three years I did the exact same, hunted down the best bang for buck office chair as I spend 9-10 hours a day in it. Year ago I got sick of sitting constantly and started enjoying walks on my lunch around my immediate neighborhood so I got the idea to build my own homemade hydraulic treadmill desk so I could walk AND work both at the same time. It's huge at 9 feet long with big twin monitors mounted to arms that I can swing from left to right side. Right side, I can set the desk to sitting height and sit as much as I want. When I want to walk a bit, I raise the entire desk up to 52 inches which is standing height when on top of the treadmill, swing my monitors to the left side and have a walking treadmill under it with a wireless keyboard and mouse. So I literally walk all day and work now. Not fast, as you can only use a keyboard and mouse at 2.2 to 2.4 mph accurately but it completely changed my day to day work life. SOO much more productive and energy. Started just using for an hour or two here or there and sitting rest of the day but it built up to the point where I haven't sat down now in the chair for over three months and I walk 12 to 15 miles daily easily. Combines light exercise and work, two birds and one stone ya know? Couple weekends ago I was curious to see my walking endurance after months of the above and went for a stroll and didn't stop for 17 hours and hit 100,000 steps in a day, total of 47.05 miles. Couldn't have walked even three or four miles ago a year ago without effort. Now I don't even feel it until mile 20 plus..... nor am I a health nut or anything by any means. Likely not an option for most to build a homemade, giant hydraulic desk but there are lots of companies out there that make treadmill desks with varying price points. Worth looking into.... you very likely would find yourself using it far more then you think. Also the first thing I ever built with wood....discovered I both enjoyed it and had a knack from it but only from sheer stubbornness to learn no matter how many mistakes I make and not make the same mistake twice. Ha
  14. Boring half wall by my front door.... (plants only there temporarily to get out of the way of finishing the floor) Had an idea... (original plan for the river stone tiles I used to make the plant coffee table with) Done! Three river stone tiles and repurposed bamboo flooring With the couch back in place...
  15. Another piece recently completed. It is pretty big at 4 ft wide by 2 ft tall as it was designed for a specific spot in my living room that needed a little something something to help. And I LOVE mountains.... Simple pine wood, sliced and diced into specific sizes with the tablesaw Some white paint and plywood backing.. Starting to take shape... used a different stain mix on each mountain to keep them subtly different... Finished product... Fits the space perfectly... Thanks for looking....(ignore the floor, it's a work in progress still)
  16. I am currently remodeling my living room and figured to throw up a few pics of the various builds and projects of it on here. Dead space corner in my living room, has a 8 foot tall fern tree in the space... Said plant wanna be tree.... Had an idea Sunday and built a frame out of scraps from my woodshop... Stained the center to make it almost invisible River stone tiles leftover from another project... And completed. Clad the leading edge between the couches in bamboo boards so you can't see the frame at all. Fills the space perfectly and the wanna be tree will go right in the middle....(not adding it until I finish the floors soon which is another work in progress)
  17. I'm down to help if needed. Located around Westerville area
  18. Long as you aren't looking to sell anytime soon, essentially just about everything is on sale now. I seriously upped my investments in past couple weeks and will continue to do for a good while long as the market is this low. It always comes back up despite the media says. Whatever you do, do on the basis of actual knowledge and your own comfort level, not based on fear of everything you hear.

    CCW Class?

Another vote for Joe. Had my CCW for three years or so now and took Joe's class to pass.
  21. With Black Friday right around the corner, waiting a couple weeks could save you a good bit. Not talking about going out into the crowds itself, just waiting until the week of and scoring a good online deal.
  22. Ahahaha....that's hilarious
  23. I watched the reveal last night as well and I admit, I REALLY like it. As in, I may start planning on buying one in two years or so....bang for buck, both performance wise and looks, it's spot on.
  24. Looks good, I like the black on top of the new color.
