Zero doubt in my mind that it would be an awesome car... I just have little connection with that body/style...idk... given my last post... I feel like a failed to accurately explain why I am hesitating...So... I give up... Come talk to me in person, because text fucking sucks to explain things...
-
But mom...someone on the internet made me sad/angry *fart noise* Anyways.. I'm done with the 8... i want it out of my life. and my emotional connection with my car will not sway my next choice. I was just trying to make an example of one of multiple aspects in the care buying process that matter to me.
-
um... I feel like you misunderstand me... kind hurts TBH... this is the same shit I felt when I jumped out of the Kitchen discussion because conveying emotion or meaning over text is next to impossible and usually leads to misunderstandings like this I appreciate ALL the suggestions and I take them into consideration. my deepest apologies for being fucking real for a few seconds and sharing a possible sensitive part of me... but fuck it, lets throw some puke emoji on the post to REALLY drive the point home... Last time I checked, this aint the kitchen... so... I little respect for me sharing something sensitive would be nice? To think that I ONLY care about an emotional connection is completely incorrect. I'll be more general and upfront them... *clears throat*... I am not going to waste someone's valuable time on making a large potential purchase on a car that I am not going to enjoy. The person in question, I have a VERY high level of respect for, yet do not know them very well at the same time. My next car will not be the BRZ/FRS because it is not something that I feel a connection with... im sorry..but, that's just how I feel. It may not mean much, but I remember a few winters ago when Cup'o Joe was there... Doc would sit down with us and chat about cars. It was a really fun experience and I did not know much about him at the time. Most of his answers were very casual, but I always wanted to know more. A very good memory I have. All other recommendations have been taken into account and I will be going out this weekend to test drive many of them... this is actually a big weekend for me. I will be buying my next car in the next 10-12 days and I am very nervous about making my selection. I want to buy something that works for me... but I want to love it, like many things. Just give me some time... I just can't believe im finally saying goodbye to the 8 after having it all this time... I figured it would have caught fire by now... but i kept going, ya know? ya ya ya... im sorry for the sentimental post and showing "feelings" in front of the guys... but fuck it... im already the weirdo that drives a car powered by an angry barrel of bees that is prone to catching fire... whats the worst that could happen?

Docs car really is awesome... I have nothing but positive things to say about what he has done to it and his very kind offer. My ultimate reason for not jumping on it is a mixture of hesitation and mixed feelings... The FRS/BRZ is a great car. Much like the miata and RX-8, it is light and agile. But, it does not speak to me as much as other cars do... KERRY LOOK AWAY... DON'T READ THIS PART!!!! But, overall...the design, look, and feel of a car matter to me. But most of all... I want to be in love with what I drive and be passionate about it. The feeling I admire is the pride and love for your car. When someone parks at Cars and Coffee 30 minutes before everyone else gets there to wax their car... yea... I laugh on the outside... but part of me respects that person because they love their car so much, that they want it to look good... in my mind... they want everyone to see how special their car is. Yea, this can melt away when you find out the person is a condescending douche who double parked and could care less about what you drive... NOT my point. I respect the person who cares for their car and feels that sense of pride while at the same time respecting others. All RX-8 jokes aside, I've driven my car this long because I loved it. My RX-8 was a connection that I shared many and led me to find out what Cars and Coffee was... it led me to CR...and ultimately took me so many places. It's like having a long time friend who is about to die of cancer... I'm going to miss my RX-8 and i don't give a fuck admitting this here... but I might even cry when I hand over the keys. This is the type of emotional connection I have with my car... I want to re-birth that connection with my next car. Yea... the dog died and we are all sad, so lets buy a new dog kinda vibe. This is why I take my next car choice very seriously because I want a new connection... A new partner for the road that I can't stop looking back at when I lock the door to go into the store. I have been guilty of looking back at the 8 all the time... Anyways... the FRS/BRZ is a great car, but sadly... it does not spark a new beginning for me in my mind. I know...I know... I'm crazy as fuck to have such an emotional connection with a fucking car. but, thats just how I feel... if i'm not feeling a car or it's vibe... then I shy away from it. I appreciate and am very humbled that Doc offered to sell me his car. But in all seriousness... I don't believe I would be able to give it the same love that he feels for it. That car is beautiful and deserves someone so much better than me.

um... not to break in on this discussion... because this is all REALLY good information... but I kinda feel like i need something built after 2012-ish... like, I know older cars work fine. But... this is going to be my daily, so I feel like it should be newer. What am i missing here?

Answering back to Kerry's list - VW Gti MK7 MT - I don't like the look or the interior of the GTI... though I respect and like the idea of the car - Honda Accord Sport MT - I have no plans to dye my hair, wear loose fitting clothes from Hot Topic, and talk about VTEC at CC&C... - Honda Civic Si - Wanna talk VTEC and Power to weight ratios? Hold on.. let meh vape real quick. - Miata (any generation) - YES! YES!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Fiat 124 spider (Fiat is running a $4K off special on leftover 2018s, which puts the price down to $18K - Shut the fuck up!?! are you trolling? *google search*... he's not trolling.... suprisedpikachu.meme - 2008-2013 S197 mustang GT Track Pack MT. (Because you won't shut up about a mustang) Can't afford it... cross this off the list. - Kia forte koup Manual trans (probably the cheapest one here but if you can find a 2014 with less than 60k miles there will still be some warranty left on it.) HamsterCommercial.meme - Toyota corolla hatchback MT (I think you can get these new in or close to your price range). no...just...no... please god no.... So... C5 is back on the table...
-
My IQ is above 7... i'm not going to take a loan that high
-
Your pictures capture my soul... yes! I want a GT more than anything, but... it's just not in the budget. I would lose money each month and assuming that nothing goes wrong with it, the gas would bury me at this point sadly.

Technically... no... but bending the rules is not that hard. The condo that we live at only allows for 1 car to be parked with your parking pass and space is at a minimum. We technically have to pay a fee to park additional cars and that's more of a hassle than it's worth to me. There ARE a few empty spots down the way... but they are technically reserved for guests (but not marked) and with most people here living in the community for 20+ years and us with 6 months... i'd rather not cause bad blood with the community... but that's just my two cents.

My thoughts entirely...

A Rotary is only a shit daily if you don't take care of it. Mine was very well maintained and red-lined each day, which gave it a long life. I got my RX-8 in 2012 and it lasted this long without blowing any seals... so... honestly, I consider myself lucky. Also... Fuck the Prius... The good thing about using the word "practical" is that almost anything is an upgrade from what I currently have.
-
What scared me away from the Vette was practicality and Miller's post. YES! I would love to own a Corvette at my age (28)... but I don't feel like its the right car for my situation. I need something that is a little less car, while not sacrificing on the things I want. Insurance quoted me at $675 a year for one up north that I gave them the VIN on, and that was not terrible. ONly other downside I saw was the Clutch and Tires... good lord! it was ~$1200 for a full set of new tires. What I really should be looking for is a car that was produced in the last 4-5 years and meets my requirements.. something almost 18-19 years old, does not peek my interest after Millers post... Also, Greg is going to punch me in the dick if a screw this up :/ oof... um.. well, it's the value for what i'm getting. $16K for very comfy seats, leather everything, great speakers and infotainment, along with glass roof and rear seat heaters... there is not much better of car with "stuff" in it for the price. I'm not saying im drooling over the MKZ, nor is it my first choice... I'm just saying that in the category of "features per dollar" you don't get much better. I can't find many Cadillacs, BMW, or Mercedes that have the "features" of the MKZ for the price.

Went out and saw a few cars today. I have my reference number from a few loan places... but none would qualify me for "private sale" without a cosigner, which I thought was weird. Germain Cadillac at Easton has a Mustang V6 that looks good. Link And yes... I know folks have said to "Go V8 or Go home" but Miller does have a point... I need something that's not going to break the bank and fuck me over. If I get something like the V6, it's reliable, parts are easy to find, and light on gas (compared to the RX-8). This one looks like a good option, and with trade-in, money down, and some negotiations... I should be able to get it for a good price. All the lolz aside, I did find this Lincoln to me interesting. Huge glass roof, fuel efficient, power/leather everything. Really looks like a good value and at 60K miles, not bad in my opinion. Only fear I have is that it is a hybrid... meaning that the battery will die and need replaced at some point. Some folks claim they last for 100k miles.. others have had them go out sooner... ya never know. Only reason I am considering this car is the sheer value it carries with it. If I can't have proformance, you will bet your ass I will try and enjoy the ride with as much value per dollar that I can. Looking at a few 370z... I can say that im not 100% sure i'm in love with them as much as I could be. The 370z is a very good looking car and I believe that Nissan did a great job with the outside styling, but the interior really has me scratching my head. It feels cheep, child-like, and a complete afterthought... sorry... but this is an opinion, so don't lynch me. After talking to a few folks, the BMW is out of the question due to "possible" high maintenance and potential issues down the line. This also rules out the C5... despite the fact that I was actually falling in love with the idea of owning one. Current lineup of serious contenders based off everything I have/know now. S550: Mustang V6 MT 2013:2014 Lincon MKZ Infinity G37 (weird... but I kinda like it more and more) ND MX-5 Mazda 3 Hatchback MT Dodge Challenger V6 MT (Because why the fuck not?) Doc's 86... because it looks sexy <3

I will keep this in mind for sure. thanks for the offer

Page 3...with the hard hitting advice!

Im scared! (O∆O)

G37... maybe... I personally love the 370z, but the interior is god awful in my opinion. I hate the setup, the instrument cluster design, and the shifter. Now, if all I looked at was the outside of a 370z, then I would be in pure bliss... not so much the inside.
-
If you find me a CTSV in my budget with a MT... I will buy it, The C5 has been mentioned a lot in this thread, and honestly... I love the idea of owning a Vette, but there is no way in hell I could afford the upkeep on that thing to keep it in good shape. Also, Is it true that most vettes look clean on the outside, but when you look under them it can be rust city? It's kinda funny because the RX-8 actually is smaller on the inside then you would think. Ashley and I sometimes fight over the center rest because I have to shift, but her arm is in the way. What I do know is that I want something with more power/torque then what I already have. The 8 is very agile and MX-5 like handling, but I have no problem with trading that for a better engine. V8 or bust seems to be what people are saying about the Mustang... but why? is the V6 really that bad? or will I just get shit from other Mustang fans for "cheeping out"? I know nothing about the Z4... any good? There is something that is pulling me to the Mustang though... I really want to know whats wrong with the V6 Kerry and Greg with the sage advice... I love/hate it when people do this. You are 100% correct that I need something that is reliable..but compromising is so hard. I met someone on CR in the summer time who purchased my Surface and he had a Lincoln MKZ that was fully loaded and I really like it. Some of the lower trim MKZ are within my budget from 2015, so I have been looking at those... but Mustang is high on my priority list unless I discover that is a huge mistake. I'm turning 29 this summer, so I cant imagine that insurance will bend me over that much... I have never been in an accident and have 0 tickets on my record. My fear with buying something old from the 2000's is that fixing it may become a hassle... but that could be true with any car... BIG THANKS for all the suggestions folks. I have read each one and will make a decision in the next few days.
-
WOW! thanks for all the suggestions folks... going to quote a few people... just a moment
-
Yes, I listed the 8 on CR last year in an attempt to sell it. At the time it ran good, but shortly after I posted it I got a CEL for the CAT starting to fail so I lowered the price. Only bite I got at the time was an offer for $2700 under the assumption that the person was buying it as a "fixer-upper"... I declined. I was looking at the time to buy a 2015 Mustang GT because the prices were low... but right now I cant afford the asking price of a 2015 GT.

As the title implies... I was driving back to work from Microcenter after picking up our order and the engine backfired hard at low RPM and suddenly the RPM started to rise like the clutch was slipping, I went to up-shift, but the car died going 45 MPH. So, here I am... dead in the water, under the bridge of 315 at Henderson. I pop the hood and nothing looks out of place, but when I crank it sounded like metal rattling in a can. I could not figure out if it was coming from the CAT or the engine, but I was able to get it to start after a few cranks. The car sounded and ran like ASS, but I needed to try and get it back to work. Engine died about a mile up the road and backfired hard again. Following that, each time I cranked I could hear rattling and the car would eventually start, but die less then a second later. The RX-8 is at my mechanics and being looked at. My assumption (and hope) is that the CAT blew up and caused the sensors to shut the car off. The rattling sound could be lose bits of CAT flying around...IDK... Regardless... i'm tired of dumping money into the RX-8 and it's not worth much as scrap and I might just keep it until I can afford to fix it up properly, which brings me to my next question. You have ~$15,000 to spend on a car, maximum ~$18,000 but that's pushing it. Those who know me, know that I have had my eyes on an S550 body Mustang, but the V8 is out of the question on such short notice... how's the V6? I've driven the EcoBoost ones and they were ok, but people say the Turbos explode... is that true? What car would CR buy with ~$15,000? I don't want something "boring"... I want something fun with a manual transmission and a car that I can take back to Autocross in on the weekends, but also drive to work each day. So, what's out there that can make me forget about my RX-8?
