  1. So, the rules are a bit to long to all type here... You can find the complete rules [HERE] But, to answer your question... The purchase of the car cannot exceed $500.00 which is important to keep in mind, because if you win the race you sign a waver that agrees to sell the organizers your car for a stupid low price "if" and only if they decide to buy it from you. For example... If you bring a car with plenty of modifications and plan on beating the shit out of everyone, then they will basically let you have your fun (if you bribe them enough) and then they will buy your car for a stupid low price. Oh yes... Bribes are allowed and VERY public. If you slap a turbo from a semi truck onto a Miata or add $5000 suspension to the car, then be prepared to bribe the judges at inspection with car parts, beer, food, and everything else. Sometimes Donations to their charity with get you past inspection, but they do whatever the fuck they want... and they are public about it.
  2. Hey Folks! A few friends and I are starting a 24 Hours of Lemons team and I wanted to create a post to share our "journey" with the rest of CR. I have always wanted a project like this, but never had the money to do anything of the sort. We were able to get a 1986 Toyota MR-2 for our first car. Over the next few months we will be wrenching on this car to get it ready to race in the spring of 2019. We had quite a few ideas for "what" we wanted to use, but in the end, we felt like this was a great starter car for the 24 hours of lemons. We got this one for a good price, and felt like it left plenty of overhead for the safety equipment and other work the car might need as we get it ready to race. So... Without further ado I present to you... Mr. Deux!... oh god... it has a tree growing out of it! The car had been sitting since 2011 next to a barn. Passenger window shattered from when someone broke in to steal the radio. Plenty of junk in the car, and it was full of bugs, animal piss, and cigarette butts. I showed up last night (9/19) and we began work by sucking out most of the water from the trunk that was left in there from the cars power wash a little bit before we arrived. These are some of the nasty things we found when cleaning out the car for the first few hours. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9168 The car sitting, as it had for 7 years! http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9149 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9162 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9157The center console was FULL of wasps nests http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9158Literal tree beginning to grow out from the floor. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9166 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9160 Ok, lets get that cleaned up a bit... There we go, Much better. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9165 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9167 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9148 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1027&pictureid=9156 Last night the driver and passenger seats gave us problems, but we will continue to work on it in the months to come. I will update this thread as time progresses. There are multiple people working on the car at different times of the day, so there might be a few skips in between updates but I will do my best to post things in chronological order. Enjoy!
  3. Otis knows whats up That's going to be a hard pass from me
  4. That would end poorly for me my friend, Anyways... I guess I don't criticize the videos for having some element of "BS", but I do enter them very skeptical. I watch them, enjoy them, and nod my head, but I don't trust the person as much as I should. The basic script for a VinWiki video is very BuzzFeed in its presentation: Step 1: Find a guy who has an interesting car or story Step 2: What wacky, crazy, or unbelivable thing happend with you in relationship to cars? Step 3: Title it! "You Won't Believe What Happened to This Supercar owner" or "10 Crazy Things Car Salesman Went Through (#8 will shock you and your family!!!) Step 4: *Wet Fart Noise* Step 5: Collect ad-revenue Without being a hypocrite, I watch them and enjoy them... But God to I hate the script/presentation. TL;DR This Thread, ROFL! "I jerk off with the lights off. I'm not looking at it, that shits gay" Casey Putsch: 2018
  5. I've often been skeptical of some of these stories... they feel a bit "Buzzfeed" if you know what I mean. Sometimes I just feel like some of the details are exaggerated or made up, but then again I attribute much of that channels success to the stories themselves. The tone these people use when telling their stories feels very friendly and sounds like a conversation you might have with someone at (the only) Cars & Coffee in Columbus. I don't doubt that there is "some" truth to these stories, but since it's a video you can't really debate with them or question what they are saying, so they are free to say whatever they damn well please. idk... I always watch the VinWiki videos with a high level of skepticism
  6. This is the TL;DR of everything... Do you just want to check eMail? watch YouTube? and do basic tasks? Do you like the idea of having a computer that you can throw in the trash each month, buy a new one, and your shit automatically pops back up? CHROMEBOOK Do you want the most commonly used operating system on the planet? Do you want maximum compatibility? Do you love a wide variety of options, ports, and designs? WINDOWS BASED DEVICE Do you have some money to burn? Does build quality and security matter to you? Do you have an eye for design and are willing to accept an eco-system that only plays well with it's own devices? MACBOOK / IMAC
  7. We have a few Samsung Chromebooks at work and honestly I don't feel like they are worth it if "sound quality" is on your features list. Underwhelming at best is what I would consider them, but then again I am picky with my speakers. The Chromebook Pro that we got to test was tinny when you turn up the sound and had no bass at all. Sure, you could watch a YouTube video or two with them but I would not recommend them for Movie watching with the LED display they have... this is all opinionated in all honesty. The problem I have with Chromebooks in 2018 is that they are cheep and get the job done, but Windows offers similar performance in the same price bracket. The HP Stream laptops with Windows 10 will really surprise you. For about $200 you get full Windows 10, a full warranty, Office 365 for a year, great port selection, and a very sub-par screen. The point I am trying to make is that Chrome OS is ok, but Windows is just better to have to the convenience and number of apps supported.
  8. Clay... I have a few options for you at three different price points. I hope this helps. The competition: 2017 Macbook Air Screen: 1440x900 TN Panel Processor: Dual-Core i5 (processor from 2015) HDD: 128GB PICe SSD RAM: 8GB of LPDDR3 GPU: Intel Graphics 6000 12 hours battery life in OSX Lets take a look at some options... Low End: (it gets the job done) LINK <===== Acer Aspire 3: Sporting a CPU from 2017, we have this little gem from Acer at $400 USD, this guy is tough to beat in the budget category. with full windows 10 and a 256GB SSD, this guy actually has plenty to offer if you are willing to accept its 4GB of slow DDR4 RAM. Day to day tasks will be quick and snappy, but switching between multiple apps and chrome tabs might become a problem... But in terms of CPU, SSD Space, and raw power, this little guy beats the Macbook Air in many things but build quality. PROS: Great CPU (For the price), Multiple ports, Strong SSD, and a decent screen size. CONS: Build Quality... oh god... the build quality Mid Tier: (Surprising Value) LINK <===== Lenovo Flex 5: This guy might be the bargain of the century (no joke!). With a true quad core i7 from 2017 and dedicated Nvidia Graphics (from 2016) this laptop will blow the Macbook Air out of the water for almost $250 less then the base price. it's 16GB of DDR4 RAM and the 512 GB SSD are a bit overkill, but honestly... who cares at this point? Added bonus is the ability for the system to yoga into tent or tablet mode which is great for a business meeting or office environment. The Lenovo name is also good for business environments making it the Cadillac or Mercedes of the business class laptops. PROS: This laptop is really the complete package, Full 1080p HD screen with beefy specs will make you the envy of the office. CONS: It's a Yoga device and some people fucking hate devices that Yoga... Me included... But with specs like this, I really cant complain. High End: (Macbook Air Killer) LINK <===== Dell XPS 13 (QHD): Now, this big boy is a little over the MSRP of the base Macbook Air, but I am including it because it directly competes with it in terms of price and power. The XPS 13 comes with a "adequate" Quad Core i7 and 16 GB of RAM (Fart Noise)... But its REAL party trick is its QHD 3200x1800 Display, which is just breathtaking to consume content on. I have watched a few demo movies on it and I have to be honest... it was drop dead amazing. This laptop is fast and better then the Macbook Air in every category, but the real missile to the face is this screen... good god does it look good. PROS: If the screen on this laptop was a woman, I would make sweet love to it all night CONS:Pricey for a 13 inch laptop and lacks real graphical horsepower to to anything beyond basic office work. the UHD 620 GPU is not "bad", but your not going to be doing much crazy stuff on it. CONCLUSION TIME!!! Not all laptops are created equal. The Macbook Air is a very well built piece of hardware that does everything the average user needs with a TRUE all day battery life. OSX will hand you great things like Pages and Numbers to get productivity work done, but the Apple Tax is quite high to pay for what the laptop is lacking in terms of ports and a decent screen. The TN Screen on the Macbook Air is a complete joke compared to its retina counterparts. Which, remember... you will be looking at each and every time you use the system. I would honestly say this, Weigh your options and ideas carefully. If you want to join the Apple Eco System then the "Macbook" Might be what your after. It has the same "basic footprint and power that the Macbook Air has, but at the cost of ports... so... get ready for that Dongle Life!!! If you look at the options I have set forth, please ONLY look at them as ideas in different price points. I ALWAYS encourage someone to go out and physically hold, touch, and use a laptop before buying it. Part of the experience of a laptop is how you (the user) interacts with it. Everything from the keyboard to the screen NEEDS to be taken into account. A chromebook is fine and yes, will get the job done... but you could do so much more with your money that it's hard to recommend a $200-ish Chromebook. A $500-ish Windows based laptop will have the same power... but lack the build quality of the Macbook. Always keep this in mind. Happy Hunting and let me know if you want me to come to MicroCenter, BestBuy, or any other store with you to check some stuff out.
  9. I have many ideas for this site... #MakeCRGreatAgain! :-P For those who don't know Drivetribe, it is a Automotive Social Media platform created by the Top Gear Boys (James, Jeremy, and Richard). The TL;DR is that the website is (reportedly) burning through cash at an alarming rate, Making no profit what-so-ever.
  10. Hey folks, I am throwing this up again for sale because I ended up keeping it after no bites and I need the money for car parts at this point. I purchased this system in December of 2016 and have used it for just about everything during my ownership. The system is very capable and was always able to do productivity work, play games, and watch movies. The screen is beautiful and watching Youtube, Amazon video, or Netflix was always a treat. No dents, scratches, or dings on the body. Keyboard shows normal wear over time. PM me with any questions you might have System Specs: Windows 10 Pro i5 6300U Processor: clocked at 2.4 Ghz 256 GB SSD (Expandable via SD card slot on the back) 8 GB of RAM Intel HD 520 Graphics Display: 2736x1824 1: USB 3.0 Port 1: Mini Display Port 1: Headphone jack (looking at you Apple ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)) 1: Micro SD Card Slot I am also including all of the accessories I got with the system, they are as follows: Brenthaven Case: Has room for the Surface, mouse, pen, and charger Surface Arc Mouse (Version 1) Surface Pen (Came with the surface, but im including it with accessories) Mini Display port to HDMI adapter Surface Magnetic Charger w/ USB port on the charger (Very nice for charging a phone while on the go or at a hotel) http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=949&pictureid=8991 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=949&pictureid=8992 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=949&pictureid=8994

  13. FYI folks, when you call to cancel your XM subscription, let them know that you want a lower price. Keep beating them up until they go lower and lower. The people in those call centers are told to keep customers AT ANY COST! My subscription is the "All Access" plan where I have everything. Regular cost is above $200 a year, and I best them up down to $120 for a year which is $10 a month for streaming and car playback. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Some people can get them to go lower and I have seen 6 month All Access for as low as $55. Best stations are BPM, Electric Area, and 40's Junction

    iOS 12 Beta

Thats good because we disable iMessage at work. I will have to install it to my iPad to see how it works. Students always find ways to screw up their iPads when they do major updates, so it would be nice to get head of the curve. Anything else you noticed?

    iOS 12 Beta

I have not updated mine yet... I have thought about it. Is the beta stable?
  17. The only problem you will have is "storage space". When you move to internet based or IP based cameras you need to think about "where" your footage is being stored. Nest cameras will charge you an arm and a leg for cloud based storage and a YouTube channel that I subscribe to did the math and you have to pay $5-$30 per camera, per month on each of them to store your footage in the cloud...WTF! I often find it necessary to have a repository setup somewhere in your house to store the footage for later viewing if needed. If you are about that sort of thing, then take into consideration where you are going to store the footage and how you will do that in the long run. if.... you... don't give a shit about saving the footage or storing the recordings in real time... please disregard the opening bit. Check out Woot for some good deals. They always have surveillance cameras on their site. Woot is part of Amazon, so it's just shit they have laying around that they don't want. https://www.woot.com/category/electronics/security-surveillance?ref=w_cnt_cdet_elec_3
  18. Admin please take this down... The apex seals... kinda exploded
  19. Just wanted to throw out my two cents on the situation... as someone who works in education and currently at a High School, I can honestly tell you that not a day goes by that I don't worry about this very same thing happening at my school. Teens can be extremely irrational these days, but every community is different. The main thing you need to look at in these situations is "what drove this person to come to the conclusion that shooting everyone was the answer?" I have seen many students come and go that have terrible home lives, terrible parents with no ability to "parent" their children, and parents who could give a damn. Much of the cries for help span from lack of social interaction and perception of how your peers view you. Just last week I noticed a student who was handing out money left and right to random people in the hallway like some modern day Robin Hood, and after investigating where he come across over $150 in cash it turned out that he stole the money from his Grandma who is already dirt fucking poor and wanted to buy friends for the day. Kids will go to great lengths to impress or make people feel like they are "cool". The student in question has no father in his life, mom is always drunk, and grandma does not know what to do with him. We are all EXTREMELY worried at what he might do next. (this is not the first time he has done something stupid. My point is... I actually get very angry when people cry for gun control in these situations. If someone brought a chainsaw or a sword to school to stab and cut up people, would we cry for control of that as well? My point is, we need to look at HOW the student got to this point. What happened in his/her life that led to these decisions being made? We always say that parents are just as responsible as the teachers and I would love to know if this student had ANY friends or faculty that stuck up for him. You have to look past the "gun" situation and look at how you can prevent these things from happening in the first place... I assure you that banning guns will do NOTHING for school violence. Our education system itself is in shambles. budget cuts, lack of teacher pay, and a complete divide between what schools are good and what schools are bad. There is a very good documentary that I HIGHLY recommend folks watch called "waiting for superman" it talks about how fucked up our school system is and what leads students down the path they follow. I can't even begin to tell you how passionate I am about one day fixing this god forsaken education system we have. Here is a link for anyone who wants to watch: https://vimeo.com/115805401
  20. I enjoyed watching pinks... up until the episode where they guy asked for 20 or 30 car lengths...AND still lost, IDK man, Pinks looked really fake and set-up. Was any of that real?
  21. The XPS 13 has it's webcam pointing up your nose because that was the ONLY place they could put it and still achieve the near "bezeless display". The industry is rapidly approaching full screen devices and Dell is no exception. the Camera for now will look up your nose, until someone embeds the damn thing into the display. I disagree completely with Windows 10 being the source of the surfaces problems. Microsoft is a software company trying to become a "hardware" company. because of this, their hardware is so special and unique that the drivers to make this crap work ONLY exist on 1 device. Microsoft will has some way to go before they can nail the drivers and make them work 100% of the time. Unlike Apple, who is a Hardware company first, Software second, Microsoft has not had the proper time to really iron out all it's kinks. Windows 10 as a stand-alone OS, is "factually" a better OS then Windows 8.1 was, however I would argue that there was nothing really wrong with Windows 8.1, just that it was so far of a departure from classic windows style that we rejected it (rightfully so). IMHO I believe that if WIndows 8.1 were more polished and came out 2 versions after Windows 10, then we would have been given time to slowly grow with the product. Anyways.... TL;DR.... Nothing is wrong with Windows 10, it's ALL the hardware/drivers to blame with the Surface and it's problems. Just try undocking a Surface Book with Nvidia Graphics while having any applications open, CRASH CITY!!!
