CR Review: 2012 Nissan Versa - "You can't go back"
HotCarl replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Good write up. Ive been thinking of buying a new car since my 05 jetta is finally paid off and im way tired of it. I like the possability of buying a new, fuel efficient car like the versa but regardless of how cheap it is it will never be as cheap as a car that i own now and have paid off. It is nice not to have a car payment and im enjoying it. Besides my next car will be a truck, maybe a jeep. -
Agreed. i saw a dark grey one with stock black rims, it looked fucking hawt. No v6 badges anywhere. Shit if it gets 30mpg thats just as good as my 2.0 4cylinder jetta and theres no way in hell im getting 300hp.

This ones too big... this ones too small... -
There's a "league" (i use the term loosely) that meets up on saturday nights called BTN, or Better Than Nothing hockey league. This would be a great starting point for you. its mostly E/lower D league types. Its real laid back, everyone is really cool and helpful too. I played witha buddy there once, and i just sat back and played defense, tried to look for the open man on the pass etc... Oh i enjoy it alot, i like playing with better players b/c it makes me up my game. My theory is always look for the pass, or to make the play. Rather than in a game where i usually look for the shot or look to put the puck on net. I just know how frustrating it can be playing with someone slower and i never wanted to be 'that guy'. Plus alot of times you show up to a dropin thats established so guys wanna play with their friends, etc... so your the 'new guy'. If anyone's going to the cbj game tomorow my teams playing at the ice haus at 930, you'll get to see some middle-aged, moderately over weight, heavy drinkers huff and puff down the ice for 40 minutes, I'll be wearing number 7.

I read somewhere that this was a legit, real problem. That we are increasingly dependant on a supply chain for food that any kink in the chain could leave people with bare shelves at grocery stores. Sorry, dont remember who posted it here but they had a spot on point about how our societies grow dependant on being able to sustain itself. With every innovation in food storage or transportation our infrastructure becomes larger and more complex. I would love to someday buy a farm and be able to grow my own food and raise my own cattle but i've grown up in cities my whole life so thats not too realistic. EXACTLY! it always happens, has happened for generations. Something natural comes along to 'thin out the heard'. Influenza pandemic, natural disasters, etc... Thats why this topic may seem rediculous to some people but its not if you realistically think about it.

Maybe someone like YOU wont notice but i noticed there were more than a few A/B players at friday dropin's downtown. I hate being the worst guy on the ice. Never been to the wed morning at dublin though, if i do hit up a dropin its usually wed afternoon at dublin, 11:30-1 i think it is. If they still have that one, its been a while since ive been to a dropin.

Oh and if anyone wants some free pads i have my old bauer helmet with cage, Bauer pants, and I think their Bauer knee/shin gaurds. This was the stuff i first bought so its all entry level type stuff that ive upgraded over the years. Should work great for a beginner but they are USED. Not selling i just wanna get rid of them so if anyone wants them PM me.

EXACTLY! Dont get me wrong i think Seguin is/will be a great player in this league but he's on a team with thats really deep and doesnt absolutly 'need' his talent on the ice so they can burry him on the 4th line and have some unsuspecting offensive threat going against another teams checking line. Will he be just as good or even better than Nash? eh, way too soon to tell and personally i dont think so. ive always hated the idea of trading nash, mostly b/c i have NEVER heard a competant argument as to why we should. I always hear "we could get 2 decent/25 goal guys for nash" are you fucking kidding me?! So you want two Scottie Upshall's for Nash? Fuck that noise. The only good argument I have heard is that Nash could be the reason why we have a shitty lockerroom. That his lacksidaisical (sp?) approach to practices is infectious to the whole team. The only difference is he has the pure skill to overcome it and no one else does. Is this possible? maybe. Who knows. One person i always wanted was joe thorton. I wish there was some way in hell we could've picked him up instead of jeff carter. Thorton is a TRUE #1 pivot center who complements snipers like nash. Im sure jumbo joe is locked up in san jose until the end of time but still, san jose has shown they're willing to part with some offensive assets in the past (trading setteguchi and dany heatley) so you never know i suppose. If we can group together some W's I would love to see more of Cam atkinson and Calvert on the same line. Maybe with Johansen? just let them get some chemistry going with each other, they all have so much talent. -
dude, i grew up the same exact way as you guys. Youngest of 5 parents never had money to sink into ice hockey so i played street and inline growing up. Long story short got back into inline a few years ago then said fuck it, went out and spent some $ on equipment, im at least twice as good at ice as i am at roller now. My advice, start low. If you dont know where your at skill wise go to a few stick and pucks, then dropin's then email the chiller to get placed on an E league team. I can usually only make the Dublin dropin's at 11am if anyone wants to meet up i'll definitly go. Word of advice, the friday dropin downtown attracts some really good players. Like former collegiate types, A/B league types etc... Ive done it a few times and really just try and keep up. As for pads, dont waste you money on good shoulder pads. If your not checking you wont need them anyway. And if your just starting out it wont matter b/c how often will you fall onto your chest? yeah never. The basic $20 bauer's work just fine. I hit sometimes in my league and thats what i have and im fine. I got lucky once. I needed gloves and tried play it again off sawmill. This guy had just sold back his whole setup. He had a pair of brand new Bauer leather gloves with the palm stitching still there, he BARELY wore them and they were at least $80 gloves i got for $20. Of course this doesnt happen all the time but try, you might get lucky. If you know EXACTLY what you want you can buy something from hockeymonkey.com or hockeygiant.com they will probably be cheaper than hockey stop. K thats all i have.

I like it. And your right its definitly going to take alot. Does anyone read a blog called Light The Lamp? he proposed an interesting trade, Boston and Cbus, Seguin + Rask for Nash. ok calm down, Im on the side that says we should definitly NOT get rid of nash but the author of the blog proposed this question. A few games ago there were 27 NHL scouts at the CBJ game, what player on our team would garner such attention? certainly not Mason on his own, or brassard or vermette... Its sad to say and i hate even thinking about it bc i like nash and i think he's a beast but hes the only one on this team that everyone else wants. I did hear they were shopping Vermette and Brass, and of a possible trade for Nabokov but with Rick Diepietro STILL (isnt he always?) hurt the islander's probably wont let him go. -
I think the fat guy with shane is screwed. He could barely keep up as is, but they're gonna have to keep running once they make it out of the school and he's gonna get left behind.
-
You definitly make a good point. I think, in a broad sense i'll say a WROL situation (without rule of law) that ghetto's and lower income areas will just explode. Yeah they will sit there for a short time and wait to be rescued just like they wait for their government checks every month. Alot of these people can hardly think for themselves let alone provide and sustain themselves for a length of time. But when they realize there's no FEMA truck loaded with mcdonalds coming to save the day, its gonna get ugly.
-
Depending on the size these can sometimes be pretty expensive. its definitly cheaper to piece together your own from sites like cheaperthandirt.com Shit I once saw a 3 day pack on one of those sites for like $180, they have the same type of stuff on CTD for like $60. But like i said before. Having a 'bug out bag' or evac plan or anything should be a last resort, society has eaten itself alive type of thing. Alot of people think they can live by themselves in the wild but its fucking hard and your extremely vulnerable if your on your own.

I understand the objective of this post, its not completely irrattional but its not completely probable either. To me I look at it this way. People prepare for things later in life like retirement. Most KNOW they will be retired one day so they make preparations now, most are 100% with this. Obviously no one KNOW's there will be a WROL situation but that doesnt mean you should pretend like it can never happen. And honestly how hard would it be to have 2 weeks of food in your pantry for you and your family? One other thing to keep in mind, ALOT of people have the same idea when it comes to situations like these, "run for the hills and hide out". It may not seem like it but Ohio is pretty densely populated if you were to take all the major urban area's and spread them out over the state. You think your the only one with a shotgun and a backpack 'book of eli' style? As for literature, i read the Rawles book. It was interesting but you could def tell the guy was a bit nutty. A much more realistic book would be "One Second After" by William Forstchen, which could definitly be made into a movie.

Ups: 4th straight game with a PP goal we scored more than 2 goals downs: WE ALWAYS FIND WAYS TO LOSE! seriously i was shocked we scored 3 and we were winning, i glanced at the tv and thought "wow with a minute left we might actually .... wait... nevermind" -
Ive thought about this scenario before. Ive heard people call it a WROL situation or "without rule of law", or even very loose ROL/marshall law. If you've see the movie Contagion thats a pretty accurate picture of what life could be like. Sure its a different approach than what your talking about but its mostly still the same outcome. When creating that movie the producers actually had CDC staff on set to make sure it was as real and probable as possible, no aliens, no zombies and no green screens were needed to scare the piss out of you of what 'could' happen. Completely realistic. FEMA recommends that every American household be able to sustain itself for at least 2 weeks (up from the 3 days they recommended prior to Katrina). that means 2 weeks worth of food, water and supplies you might need in that time (maybe you take maintenance medication like heart medication or somthing like that). Keep in mind this is fucking FEMA we're talking about, when have they or the Federal Gov't ever done anything in the time frame they said they would? Regardless, there is still the 'two week rule'. Now think of it this way, how many homes in your neighborhood could handle the two week rule? what about neighbor's in your apt complex? Personally, in the situation you mention i think it would get real bad really quick. Economic collapse would cripple the economy and society as a whole. I dont think people would know how to act and it would just spiral out of control, hell who knows if society would even return to 'normalcy'. Dont forget, people who are dependant on drugs for what ever reason (pain killers, zannies, etc...) will raid those fucking drug stores asap. hospitals would be overrun, it takes local law enforcement minutes, sometimes hours to respond to a call as is what happens when they get dozens of calls all the time. Its definitly scary to think about and def hope we never have to live through it.

It wont do any good unless they figure out how to use a suppressor. i actually like the fact that they're all so apprehensive about using the firearms they do have.
-
There was an intereview with the creator after the show where someone asked him the same question, "i thought zombies could smell humans?". His answer/theory was that they can infact use the sense of smell however they're not bloodhounds and cant track live people that way, hence hiding under a car/truck is safe enough. Thats how he explained it anyway.

I'll never understand why i still hear people bitching that we should trade nash.... are you fucking serious?! He's been the only consistant all-star/goal/point producer this team has ever had and people want to trade him for "a good goalie and two 30goal type guys" What.The.Fuck?! To top that off i actually read some stupid bitch saying how Howeson was a terrible GM b/c he keeps letting players go... players like upshall and chris clark.... CHRIS FUCKING CLARK! This woman was upset we let him go!? ok upshall was decent but we already had 2-3 guys exactly likehim. Clark was the same thing, a veteran leader in the lockerroom but liability on the ice, we already had 2 or 3 of those too. Careful Columbus, only 79 more games to go... we should hit the panic button now yeah? -
ill take the jersey. PM SENT!

thats what she said?! BOOOOYOW

im like 3 episodes behind right now, just havent had time to keep up on it.

Your just reaching this point now? I was at this point last week we lost to Michigan State. I knew OSU wasnt going to win this one, i was way off my score prediction (OSU-10, Neb-41) but hey at least they showed us they have some sort of offense right? I agree with you, if/when they lose a few more games there will be some house cleaning. Everyone will go including Gene Smith, and then working its way down. I feel bad for Fickle, he inherited a mess for his coaching debut and looking at their schedule there's easily 3 more losses to come.

Need this for a halloween party, its kind of a longshot but if anyone has something sitting around and they dont mind letting me borrow it or want to sell it that would be cool. PM me.
