  1. Thanks for the feedback. For me, the auto was necessary as I used the car primarily for business. It is one of the better automatics as it is a five speed automatic and the ratio's are good. Plus, you can put it in manual mode and shift with the lever or the pushbuttons on the steering wheel. The 0-60 times between this and the manual are pretty close to each other - about .3 sec difference from what I gather.
  2. Just located a vehicle I want to buy so I need to move this. PRICE REDUCED A SECOND TIME - LET'S GO! $13,000 / Offers 2001 Lexus IS300, 88000 miles, 2 owners, all records. I purchased this car in 2004 as a certified pre-owned Lexus from Lexus in Dublin. I have put approximately 50,000 miles on the vehicle in the three years I have had it. I am a car fanatic and have owned 45 or so cars (so far) over the years. This is by far the best everyday car I have ever owned. It does everything well: comfortable, handles well, powerful yet reasonably economical, super reliable. The color is phenomenal - it is a silver called "Millenium Silver Metallic", and is the richest silver I have ever seen on a car. The car is fairly compact on the outside, yet spacious on the inside. It seats 4 adults very comfortably, even for long trips. I have taken my 70+ year old parents and a sibling on multiple long trips (3+ hours) and they all prefer riding in my car to riding in my sister's minivan. Performance wise, it is quick and handles very well, yet has a smooth ride. The inline six cylinder is very smooth and quiet, with good low end torque for around town. You can read all about the car's performance at various web sites. All options except GPS: Leather, Sunroof / Moonroof, Traction Control, Manual or Automatic Shift, pushbutton shifting on the steering wheel, 6 CD Changer Stereo, etc. About 20mpg city / 29 mpg highway Two Owners, All Records Approximately 87,000 miles Very well maintained, all service completed on or ahead of schedule Spare wheels for winter tires (winter tires not included) Reason for selling: I currently maintain six vehicles of my own, my kids two vehicles, and a trailer. I do all the basic maintenance and repair myself, and simply don't have the time to keep up with them as I like to, so I am selling three of the vehicles. Overall, the car is in excellent condition. There are a few very minor flaws (two slightly visible dings, nicks in the paint on the hood), but overall it is just about as nice as you are going to find a six year old car. Like a typical Lexus, the car should easily go over 200k miles with continued maintenance. From the IS300.NET web site, you can check for yourself and find these cars are very much well engineered and trouble free. As I stated, this has been the best everyday car I have ever owned, and I hate to get rid of it. But, demands dictate that I do. Pictures are below and at http://s145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/Lexus%20IS300/?action=view¤t=1179684485.pbw http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/Lexus%20IS300/LexusIS300001.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/Lexus%20IS300/LexusIS300005.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/Lexus%20IS300/LexusIS300009.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/Lexus%20IS300/LexusIS300014.jpg
  3. Set of four Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires. 205/55-16. These were fronts for a Honda S2000. Two tires have about 7/32 tread and the other two about 5/32 tread. Would make a great set of street tires for somebody. PM or email for more details. $100 for the set. Rich
  4. I have a complete set of front and rear springs / shocks for a 89-91 Civic / CRX. They came on the Civic we purchased and are using for autocrossing. The springs lower the car about 1.5" from what I can tell. They are fairly stiff as they are marked "Race" springs on the coils. The shocks are the five way adjustable Tokico Illumina V shocks. They function fine and work reasonably well with these springs. I am thinking that cutting a coil off of these springs would be of benefit for autocrossing. New, I would have to guess that these parts are in the $600 to $800 range. I just need them out of my garage as I have gone to a coil over setup. This is a good budget setup for somebody not willing to shell out the $1200 or so for the Koni SPSS / GC Coil Over setup. Might be interested in trading for '88 - '91 Civic / CRX parts or other parts that fit my fleet. Please PM or email me with questions. $200 for springs and shocks together. Thanks! Rich
  5. The GSL SE has the 114.3mm x 4 bolt pattern. All other 1st gen RX7's (and RX2's, 3's, and 4's for that matter) have the 110mm x 4 bolt pattern. No other cars to my knowledge have the 110mm bolt pattern.
  6. You probably don't want to hear this but I gave away a set of GSL SE wheels a few months ago. Contact Phil Alspach from OVR. He might have a set.
  7. Great thread. A good friend of mine had a '68 or so Barracuda, white with green vinyl top, wire wheel covers, with the 340 amd a 3.73 or so "Sure Grip" rear. Not a rocket ship by today's standards, but a sleeper in its day.
  8. Yes, they usually run two groups so you should be able to share a car.
  9. The Saturday event is an autocross driver's school. Typically they encompass the following: - Autocross safety - How to do basic setup on your car (I mean REAL BASIC) - Basic rules of autocrossing - How to learn and analyze a course - How to drive the course - How to respond to what your car is doing You will get plenty of seat time, and have the opportunity to ride with much more experienced drivers so you can see what they are doing and learn from them. You don't need anything special for the school and the first event. Just show up with a safe car and they are there to assist. They have loaner helmets and such. Even if you don't plan to autocross much, it is well worth your time and effort. My bet is you get hooked.
  10. In their day, Saab's were reasonably competitive. These would be the old 2 stroke Saab's and the 96.
  11. See http://www.cardomain.com/id/31rx7 for pics and details. The car is as described except with no Weber / intake on it. I will be re-installing the stock carb / intake shortly, and reconnecting the oil injection so you don't have to pre-mix. It will be $2600 when I put it back together. Buy as is with the parts for $2300.
  12. Just bought a 1994 Z28, White, 93k miles, excellent interior, 3 adult owners, all records, everything else very good to excellent, needs nothing. $4800. We are happy.
  13. I have a 2001 Lexus IS300 as my DD. It is almost the perfect car for me, and if I were going to keep it I would only make a few small improvements: - Better shocks and sway bars to improve handling without sacrificing ride - A few mods to get the power up around 260 or so Other than that, I absolutely love it. - It is dead reliable, - Has an adequate array of gadgets, - It seats four adults comfortably, even on 2 or 3 hour trips - It looks good - It is REFINED; no rough edges - It is at home at a business lunch, autocrossing, or through the twisties - Decent mileage: 20 / 29 city / highway MPG - It holds its value - It is built rock solid: no squeaks, rattles, or noises Just a bit more power and a little less lean is all it needs to be perfect. The other car I looked at before I bought this was the 1997 - 1998 BMW M3 Sedan (4 door), but I couldn't find one with low mileage, and the Lexus is infinitely easier to own.
  14. Yes, this kind of got outta hand! Will let everyone know what we end up with.
  15. The trailer is not for sale. I am consolidating vehicles and going to a Subirban or Yukon XL as a daily driver and tow vehicle. I just don't have time to keep up with all my vehicles and my kids vehicles the way I want to, and don't have an excess of parking and garage space, so a couple have to go!
  16. Thanks for all the advice. This thread is quite entertaining given the straightforward question I asked. Some additional points and comments: - This will be primarily my 18 year old son's car. - As a father (and some of you will get there), I normally wouldn't consider such a car for an 18 year old son. However, he seems to have good head on his shoulders, is an honors student, has some sense of discipline and responsibility, and has had formal performance driver training and experience. So, I think he can handle it. I hope he doesn't disappoint. Plus, he has skin in the game because he is paying for it. - He drove a 1st gen RX7 in the winter, so I think he will be OK in slippery conditions! - He has a budget. The smaller the better, and we are smart enough to not buy junk. - LT1, LS1: doesn't matter. Chances are he can't afford an LS1 and doesn't need the power anyhow. - Condition is most important. A car that was cared for is what we are looking for. We want it to last. - I do appreciate the comments on the Optispark. I had no idea GM had done such a thing. Sounds stupid to me. - I am actually more interested in the handling aspects of the different years than I am the straight line performance. As noted in another post, we both autocross so that is really where the interest is. - I am surprised by the relative scarcity of these cars. I incorrectly assumed there were a lot of them out there. There seems to be lots of Mustang GT's but not a lot of V8 Camaros. Thanks again for all your links, input, and comments. Even the banter was great! Rich
  17. LIKE NEW! A motorcycle / ATV jack that I received for Christmas. Unfortunately, I have discovered it will not work with my bike because of how the pipes are routed. I believe it was purchased at Pep Boys. It is "Big Red" brand. $40. rgrunenw at columbus dot rr dot com
  18. Thanks. Given my son is on a limited budget, it will most likely be an LT1 based on the prices I am seeing. Now if it was for me, that would be another matter...
  19. Thanks for the comments and links. Time to do some research...
  20. Yes, too many. The RX7 will be sold or parted within the next month, and the IS300 and Yukon will be sold / traded for a Suburban, so I will be replacing 3 with 1.
