  1. 1. It should be covered. Half of the issues have TSBs.

    2. Already covered above.

    3. I expected two things. A. That my car NOT sound like a Cavalier with 100k miles on it. And B. Good service. Both are reasonably attainable.

    4. I don't hate the car. I like it a lot, and it grows on me daily. I do hate the service I received at Capitol Cadillac. So no hunting yet.

Try a different dealer- see how it goes.

Seems like Cordell aussi can help?

  2. Warranty is 4/50k on everything except power train which is 5/100k depending on year. Bumper to bumper warranty (4/50) covers just about anything you can complain about except paint, tires, and alignment.

His being upset makes sense then, especially with this

Pretty much, and GM typically pays the claims without much question unless you are just being stupid.

  3. 1) Is this stuff your assuming would be covered under a factoy warrenty?

    2) What is the factory warrently entale?

    3) Its GM, what did you expect? Not being a dick, but when I got by V, I know what it was, a shiney mallet. Nothing more. You got the new and improved shiny sledge hammer. If you wanted a swiss watch, you should have bought something from Switzerland.

    4)*edit* you called it!

  4. Question.. Looking @ the engine bay the intake looks tiny? Any chance that intake being restrictive? I know you are putting down some BA numbers and beating the shit out of that poor FC that was built to withstand about 160 ponies (Hence the cracked shaft).

Just curious (Most of the Turbo cars I am seeing are running intakes large enough to suck in a basketball) >>>> ????? <<<<

Agree with a couple comments stating the thread is a blast to follow.

The intake manifold as in the plastic one? Its the stock Ls1 unit. Would a bigger one help? Heck yes, but I already cant use the power the car is making, so I am not worried about it. Video of that later...lol. Once I can lower the gear ratio SIGNIFICANTLY, the car should hook alot better. Once I can get the car to use the power its making, I will turn up the jam. Really, the next mod should be a Cam so I can carry the power into the higher RPMS. It falls off a cliff after 5900 now with the stock cam, but I have to rev to 6600 to have a change at seeing good boost on the shift to 5th (I go thought the traps mid way though 5th gear! 4.10 rear+26 tall ties+the suck with big power)

How much do you want for your car? ;)

For $15k, I'll drive it down to Texas myself. :)

  5. Not one fuck was given:

I told my son that the car got in a fight with a T-REX (he's a huge fan of dinosaurs). I was driving it on the street with skinnies about 2 miles from my house. Heading home, went around a corner around 70mph and the rear end came around on me. My cousin was behind me in his truck and says he saw my headlights, so apparently at some point I was completely spun around. Yanked it back to the right, from there it went up the embankment, drifted and took out some road signs. I drove it back to my house on the busted rim, all but about 600ft of the way. There the fuel pump fuse blew and my cousin towed me the rest of the way.

My buddy commented on my facebook that he bet I couldn't get the car done in time to go racing. That was last Tuesday, Wednesday night I bought a parts car, Thursday the car was on the alignment rack making sure nothing was bent in the suspension. Once that checked out good to go my buddy Jason drove up from Kentucky to help me cut the rear window out of the parts car and put it in my car, went racing Sunday. Challenge accepted!

    Epic!!!

  6. Motor is built, and trans is built.... so gotta install real turbos this winter (still on stock now) and 8.90s in full street trim will be the goal next year.

    Real man shit there!

Didn't go faster ET wise, but picked up MPH (while short shifting 2nd and 3rd lol) I am going back to test and tune the 18th and 25th to hopefully bury it in the 10's

Love that your still rocking this car. Any changes since your last time out? If your interested there is an all day rental up here on the 18th

  7. its not for everyone... 10k would be so easy to clear in a year not sure why hate on it. it obviously works

Your right. Its was an easy, early retirement for the creator.

    It works for the consumer.

It seems to be as lucrative as flipping burgers for the drivers.

Honestly, if you enjoy it more power too you. But, you say 10k "would be easy" to clear in a year, which suggests you have not seen that kind of income from it. I just don't understand why anyone would compromise their time, or the wear and tear on their car for less than that? Even on a part time basis.

  8. I drove the car around yesterday to make sure the fuel pumps were still happy. They are, so I tossed the drag pack in the corner and threw the old CCW's back on for a winter nap. Its unreal how much weight difference there is between those CCW's vs alumastars!

I am hoping to get some dyno time this fall to turn up the boost. I want to go race, but I realize the tilton only lives so long. With the car trapping 140-144, its not going to get a whole lot quicker than the 10.04 I ran already. I think putting it aside until it can make all the power its capable seems to be the smart play.

I will stick by my previous assessment. The car wasn't crazy out of the hole, but it definitely was no slouch. I look forward to cheering on some of my other buddies this fall at the IFO in Columbus.

    Sad, but understandable.

You should bring it to the "car show" at Brubakers Oct 3rd :) Roll-ons wont hurt the clutch, much. :p

  9. Finally had some time to get this thing back together.

First-I wanted to make some improvements while I had the top end off. Needed to reworked the vacuum system-so I "tapped" another barb into the back vacuum block. Now, everything has a separate boost reference source. This is very important, and often overlooked for most FI builds.

Onto the head improvements. Picked up a set of 703's (or so I thought, read on) for dirty cheap WITH dual springs (unknown brand or mileage, hence the just above scrap price) so I had the valve springs covered. China head studs from Jegs for $95, and I also was gifted a set of Comp 7.4 pushrods from a road Race team that just changed a set and was going to toss them! Thanks guys! Time for an MLS and more RPM.

    Cleaned things up a bit

And get ready to install the 35$ a pair (not even kidding) GM MLS gaskets when I see...

THEY ARE NOTCHED HEADS?!?!?!?!? WTF?? These are not 703s! The numbers are ground off-but after looking around they are stock Ls1 heads. If you have no idea what I am talking about-read here http://www.ls1.com/forums/f7/mls-head-gasket-woes-89964/

So according to the internet, I cant use these heads with a GM MLS. If fact, I'd have to put paper gaskets back on to use ANY notch head. I'm pissed! Its 2am I went inside and had a beer.

Then, I remembered what this whole car is about-throwing caution to the wind and pushing the limits. So, I grabbed my trusty can on Indian Head and went to town.

I have used this crap to seal head gasket jobs that 100% should not work- and it has never failed me. Why stop now?

Note the extra sauce around that infamous "notch".

In goes the MLS, and I take the China studs until they felt "tight enough". Its about a 1/4 turn past 80 ft lbs-its a funny spot where they don’t want to turn anymore. Anyone who has put studs in multiple applications knows what I’m talking about.

Cleaned up the header gaskets with some sand paper

    http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20150908_010353131.jpg

    And slammed her back together.

    http://i1003.photobucket.com/albums/af154/coltboostin/LsxRx7/IMG_20150908_025515626.jpg

By this time its 6am, and time for a nap before work. We will see if the notch leaks in the morning.

  10. Those new fangled Comp cartridge oiled turbos would eliminate the need for lines. Just a thought for the guy looking to duplicate in the future. Kit looks sweet. In for results.

"oiless" is the term to use here.

I have one i picked up cheap I may throw in the back of the CTS-V. They can also be mounted at any angle. http://compturbo.com/images/distributor-projects/scott/viper.jpg

  11. Not so simple. The calculations that have been used aren't just what you spent but how much you make on investments.

I noted that in my first reply.

If you have any mechanical ability, you should never buy a new car-its a huge hit day one, and a monthly loss due to interest. Even a poor performing mutual fund will make 2-4% a year. Even if your paying a nominal 2% interest rate, you have a net loss of 6%, and that's a worst case scenario!!

Unless your talking about what you make on the sale of the car? In that case I assumed it was a given in that calculation. In 99.5% of cases, the new car is still going to be the losing bet.

That .5% being the people that bought a Ford GT new. :p;)

  12. I would have to sit down and do the math but, at some point there has to be a benefit to buying a new car.For example my civic is in almost mint condition, 10yrs old, Paid $18500 for it new.I've been without a payment for 7 years, plan to have it another 5 to 10 yrs. Its been treated well and the only thing I did to it was brakes and a battery (wear items).

The math is real easy, cost of ownership.

Take all your cost; Car+Tax+insurance+maintenance+finance charges/time you plan on keeping it. Considering initial depreciation, and higher insurance, its hard for a new car to win this fight.

Simpler math would simply be Cost+tax/time

Compare that to a similar used car, and you will find if you are winning or losing.

If you always get a good enough deal that you can sell for a profit or break even in 2 years, a new car will NEVER beat the used car because you effectively have a $0 (or + profit) cost of ownership.

  13. Right there with you. 217k on my 2002 F250 4x4 gas (5.4) crew cab. Only time the truck has ever failed me was when the door sensor was stuck and a little light was on for a week. WD40 in the door & a jump and right back up. I have trusted it more than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

Yup. Only, and I mean only reason I'd sell it is the AC does not work, and I want something that is comfy for the wife and kids for long trips, and trips to the track. Its nice, but its more of a "work truck" than a DD (for me at least)

  14. question is, what's the mileage and engine? I'm assuming a ridic high miles v10? :barf:

Nah. 200k. In my 4 years of ownership, the only non wear times the truck has needed is a starter LOL. I've put tires on it, many oil changes, and enjoyed the stupid reliability. I like the gas for that- vs. a diesel which all the fan boys will tell you will last forever, but typically have a higher cost of ownership.

It is a 4x4 with manual T Case.
