  1. I can honestly say from first hand experience, you can't always feel a out of balance tire on a motorcycle.

I seen a guy going down the highway with his front tire bouncing off the ground.

I happen to exit at the same exit so I said something to him, he had no idea it was doing it.

I would never ride it without balancing the tires. just because you can't feel it doesn't mean the suspension isn't feeling it.

I have had a few bridgestones not need balancing weights though. some of the best tires I've ever had.

  2. I've seen a few R6's blow out the side 1/2 moon section of the valve cover and every time the guy found that he accidently unhooked the crankcase breather hose from the airbox.

the intake vacuum from the engine is necessary for proper crankcase ventilation to keep the engine from blowing out seals. just like the pcv system on your car/truck. it's very important to keep this system intact.

  3. Sintetico is the cheaper stuff... You can find it all day at most shops for about $6-7 a liter... Why don't you want the 4T race stuff?

    well it's $13 a liter for one.

I know I know, I only need to change the oil once or twice anyway. I'm probably going to go ahead and get it. But with the way things are at work (been knocked back to 32/week from 50/week, yeah it hurts big time) money is getting harder to come by.

I'm partial to the sintetico since it's at least 1/2 synthetic and much less expensive.

I've used it for 30k miles and the valves didn't need adjusting at 34k miles. the clutch still grabs good, the shifting is perfectly smooth etc. so I am in love with it.:D it sucks I can't find it anymore. I think the guy at pro stock said parts unlimited quit importing it or something like that. that's why it's harder to find.

and the guy out in sharonville, (sporttour) actually wants $8.75 for the plain jane 4t oil. no thank you. I understand they have a lot to pay for etc to run a business, it's not their fault prices are what they are now, but people have a breaking point. I want the store to be around and do my best to keep buying from them but I just cant afford much anymore. so I have to shop around and do my own tire changes etc.

and now STT raised the prices for a track day.. .....wink wink...

  4. mmm looks like you ordered the wrong stuff catman. I might just get the racing oil instead though. but I really don't want 10w30.

but damn $13 a quart, that's gonna leave a mark. I wish the prices were what they were. I used to get the sintetico for $5 a quart.

I don't know, I guess if I cant find it cheaper on the net....

  5. Unfortunately the kid who owned the bike before me cut into the fairing to put two gay little lights in, and did a really bad job at it. The stock light was the only one big enough to cover his hack job.

I suck at molding clay, but where would I get that; a hobby shop?

they sell it at hobby lobby, michael's etc..

  6. Ok... just because the company says it's 99.9% efficient, that doesn't mean it actually is. (Not saying it isn't) But I think I'm still back at square one, unless this 99.9% efficiency is confirmed.

read purolator's site, it was certified by using the ISO 4548-12 test.

here is a link to the test from ISO(not purolators test, just the standard test)

    http://webstore.ansi.org/RecordDetail.aspx?sku=ISO+4548-12%3a2000&source=google&adgroup=iso6&keyword=iso%204548-12&gclid=CKTsyuPvgpkCFQpgswodjU6amQ

I wouldn't worry too much about that part anyway. standard filters are usually in the 90-97% range anyway from what I've been reading. I'm more concerned with is it draining empty when the engine is off.

dry starts are the worst enemy of your engine.

  7. Ok, we've determined that the foam filters are better, but is the Yamaha filter considered a foam filter?

At this point, I'm confused as to which filter I should get for my oil change coming up.

I was talking about AIR filters.

I buy purolator pure one filters. because a R6 can use a mazda miata oil filter.

    they are 99.9% efficient.

  8. that's great to hear. I've always went there for stuff. but this past summer it seemed like everyone quit or something. tell them to carry the repsol sintetico oil. that's the only oil I want to use.

I've used it since the bike was new 36k miles later, no valve adjustments are necessary.

I think I would like to stick with this oil. but no one else sells it. only they did.

I was totally bummed out when they never seemed to get more. so I just quit bothering to even go back.

I even bought myself a tire balancer and started changing my own tires because I thought they went out of business. until I drove down through miamitown and seen the sign on the building.

  9. I wouldn't be too harsh on the Yami filter as it appears to be a high density fabric based filter. Think something like a foam filter vs. paper. Foam will do better at filtration if done correctly... We've done tests with foam filters vs. paper and even cloth like K&N and the foam ones do better. We even had a sponsor that had a test machine that could test flow rates and other weird stuff I have no idea what they mean, but they'd do filters for our race bikes and some were WAY better than what we tested and some sucked or were worse.

I seen a test done on foam air filters VS k&n and BMC.

the test results were published. the test was SAE J726.

it proved that a oiled foam filter trapped more dirt and flowed as much air as a wetted gauze filter such as K&N and BMC. and actually will flow much more air when it's dirty than a dirty wetted gauze filter can.

also have a look around in the car world. K&N's air filter oil has been shown to cause problems with Mass Air Flow sensors if over oiled.

  10. Iron Pony has Repsol. It's a great bike oil for a lower price. It's not the best, but far above average. It's made in Spain and Argentina. There's an advanced search on the webpage to identify which oil to use for which bike. Oddly, it recommends synthetic Moto Off Road 4T 10w40, Moto Racing 4T 10w30, SuperSport 4T 10w50, or Repsol Moto Sintético 4T 10W40 for my bike. 10w40 is what Honda says to use.

    http://www.repsol.com/es_en/productos_y_servicios/productos/lubricantes/informacion_de_productos/marca_repsol/automocion/aceites_motocicletas/default.aspx

edit: if it says JASO T-903:2006 MA or JASO T-903:2006 MA2 then it's made for motorcycles.

I've been using Repsol sintetico 10w40 since my bike was new.

it currently has 35k miles on it.

    track and street.

It also didn't need a valve adjustment when I checked it last winter. with 33k miles on it. that just tells me it's working very well if the valvtrain isn't wearing all that much.

  11. you can't really go by looks.

I was using a NAPA filter (just like the one in the picture)in my truck that has a side mounted filter. and I think it was letting the oil drain back out over night. within 6 days of using it, my motor spun 2 rod bearings.

I've always changed the oil on a reg basis too. and used synthetic oil. oil pressure was always good.

it had to be the filter that did it in.

I exclusively use purolator pure one filters on my bike. and from now on in my trucks.

here is one I cut open

  12. I bet riding the AA and 50 seem twisty to you since being from florida... take the backroads to Maysville, you'll be shocked!:)

yeah we need to show this poor fellow around:D

he doesn't know it yet but he moved to the right place.

oh yeah, Bridgetown in da house:D

  13. how's pro stocks new store doing?

last time I went to the old store he quit selling repsol oil. all he had was repsol boat oil:confused:

I know it's under new ownership and since then I've noticed some downgrades going on...:(

  14. there is a guy down in ky that does a good job,but he's 2 1/2 hrs away.

    barnacle bill?

I had my suit fixed by him. I'm not exactly thrilled with the quality of the workmanship.

there is 2 spots he missed with the thread that's still a hole.

    never again....

  15. ok I get your point. but you don't get mine.

it is an investment. I'm not saving money by renting period.

how is that not investing in my future if I'm NOT saving myself money?

short term, no it's not paying out for you. in the long term, yes it is.

either way it's an investment of your future, I'm just doing it different.

no, it isn't the same yield as an mutual fund or something. but I can sell it when it's payed off plus all the extra money I've saved is mine too.

or I can live here till I die. and never pay rent again. and again, saving money.

no matter how you look at it, it is an investement. you just have to stick it out long enough for your equity to be in your favor.

plus, yeah it's something I can take pride in. so it's a personal thing as well. like you were saying.

todd, your welcome to come to a BBQ anytime at my house. no hard feelings;)

  16. That's because right now it has no value to speak of. Once its worth something (people want it, or need it) it wont be free.

actually there is companies that already take the used oil and use it for other things. I don't know if they pay for it or not though.

or if they get paid for hauling it away.

    http://www.griffinind.com/

my company did some work to the owners home. he lives in northern kentucky just across the river from cincinnati.

  17. truthfully fill out this calculator to the best of your knowledge and see how much money if any, you are wasting on renting.http://finance.move.com/Homefinance/Calculators/RentBuy.asp?poe=homestore

    mine came out to this,

    $192,000.00 Estimated Cost of Renting

    $94,515.79 Estimated Cost of Buying

    a savings of, $97,484.21 . . for a 100k home for a 30 year loan.

there is some numbers for you.

now tell me who is wasting money....if you are paying $800 for rent. or are you going to tell me, saving 97k I'll use it up in upkeep of the home? your crazy.

hum, now what to do with my extra money? RETIREMENT SAVINGS! oh the good life. how's them empty pockets working out for you when you are not able to work anymore?
