My first battalion I served in was the 299th Engineer Battalion. Our motto was "First on Omaha". Pretty cool to have served in the same battalion that opened the beaches of Omaha up. Our battalion sustained upwards of 40%. That's where the average life expectancy of a combat engineer during a combat breach was 16 seconds. I have nothing but the utmost respect for all those who executed the operation. There's a reason they're the Greatest Generation.

I think you're trying to elude to steel core ammo. Most rounds these days have a full metal jacket. Something like M855 (green tip 5.56) has a little steel core penatrator within the round. Rounds like MK262 or MK319, are designed for "barrier busting". The glass on most up-armored vehicles is usually the strongest part of the armor. That glass is stronger than some of the thickest armor steel plating.

No doubt training helps, but it always boils down to the individual. I always agree that it is better have and not need, than not have and need.

Not the 3/4 and 1 tons last I checked. 1/2 tons are running struts up front. Just get a set of keys and Bilstein 5100's up front to clear those 285's with minimal trimming. You can run a 295 if you really want to.

In all honesty, training is great until put in a situation in which you need to take someone's life from them. Training is great for possibility and fundamentals. Until one has had to turn another's lights out, one may not do as he/she thinks. Targets with a face tend to make folks second guess releasing that trigger and sending a round down range. I believe in a situation in which family or one's children are involved, the thought process goes out the window no matter what. Some folks have more fight than flight in them too.
