  1. thanks for the reply Austin, and you definately make some good points. I've always found in the past that if you're calm and polite that the vast majority of police officers will be the same. I guess my thinking was that if I were a police officer I would be a little more on edge knowing that the driver may be carrying.....although on the other side as paranoid as I am I'd probably prefer KNOWING instead of having to assume that everybody had one permit or not.
  2. it's tempting. I've considered betting my CCW a few times, but I'm concerned as to whether or not I actually want it. I truly doubt that I would actually carry that much, maybe 1 to 2 times a year, and even when you do it seems like you can't actually go anywhere with the damn thing due to the laws. I also wonder if there are negative connotations to having it as well. I know that when you get pulled over, it will show you as a CCW permit holder, so you're already putting the officer on edge knowing that you likely have a gun in the car. I would also worry that if I used my weapon in a non-CCW circumstance (such as someone breaking into my home) that the CCW permit would be used against me saying that I had prepared myself with the mindset to use a gun. Maybe I'm just skeptical about my name being on a govt list of CCW permit holders? Perhaps some of the officers on the board can chime in here with their thoughts/opinions/experiences? I'm sure that it makes sense for many people, but to me it seems like the negatives outweigh the positives for something that I'll barely ever use.
  3. well...it definately has to do with frame of reference. Many in the BMW community pay that money for that kind of HP as their first mods and can't really get much more without going FI. you do get to a point of diminishing returns, which it sounds like you've reached. So I vote no, do not continue down the modding path you've mentioned. You mentioned working on the nut behind the wheel, so if you've got that money to spend, then spend it on track time, tires, maintenance, and most importantly GAS...drive the car and enjoy it. It won't be cheap this summer!
  4. any more specific requirements? I have a set of 225/45/17 snow tires I'll come off of cheap
  5. yeah, i liked how they all went to the same place too. anyway, back onto the topic, I belive it was even posted here somehwere before, but it's fake http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/jenkem.asp has quasi real origins, but I don't even think idiots in the Florida swamps are going to actually try it.
  6. looks good. I'm a fan of the black wheels on white cars keep the headlights white!
  7. not South East of Columbus, but you can call the Rice Paddy, they specialize in screwing people with bikes such as yours.

    Woot Off!

it's gonna take forever to sell that damn ipod media headset thingy
  9. $120 for driver, $5 for spectator/ride along. Not sure about the NASA specifics.
  10. Andy and I are planning on going to the first funday on April 18th if anybody else wants to tag along. Even if you just want to go hang out and take some ride alongs it's only $5 for that. That way you can see what it'd be like without ponying up the whole amount (although I still just recommend paying the money and driving). I'd still like to get a CR day up at Nelson though later in the season. It'd be a nice way to meet some people and put faces to names/cars.
  11. reasonable expectation: C5 Z06, pretty much impossible to beat the performance potential for the money more dreaming - C6 Z06 wet dreaming - Ford GT
  12. i think that LS1 swapped FDs have MANY positives and very few negatives, but if you swap on your silverstone R2....I will be forced to take a dump in your mailbox....every month for the rest of your life. JP, I'll be at Nelson on the 18th as well, hopefully in my FD if you'd like a ride in a crappy rotary.
  13. +1 for change the oil and ride while on the break in discussion though. I always followed this method with all piston engines and never had one problem. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
  14. I would agree that a track day should be considered a must do for anyone who wants to ride a sportbike fast. Even if they don't think they'll ever go back to the track (which is a lie). I started riding when i was 16, and bought salvage and rebuilt my first sportbike (F3) when I was 18. My father had the foresight to see the dangerous potential and acutally paid for my first track day with FastTrax....it likely saved my life. I'm not saying that I've not done stupid things on the road that I shouldn't, but I certianly knew my limits much better.
  15. great job ...it's a little depressing for me, but still cool. As Jackson asked, is it Rookie's car (the grey one)? I'd just like to know so I can avoid losing to him if I see him on the road
  16. how many miles were on those turbos? If you end up seperating them out let me know. What license plate did you decide on?
  17. there's no doubting that a cage is excellent for safety on the track, but it's very much a risk vs reward decision if the car will ever be driven on the street. I also don't think that you should believe that the top of your car will completely crush-in during the event of a rollover. The b-pillar that your head is by in the subi is quite strong. I suppose you need to take a very serious look at how much you'll drive the car on the street. Perhaps a back-half cage that would allow you to properly run harnesses that could eventually be turned into a full cage?
  18. Question for you then. When the vehicles rolled, how much deflection into the cabin from the roof line did you see? Do you know where I can find any type of roll over tests to read? I've looked and come up short on what I was looking for. You hear a lot of different opinions out there as to what actually happens during a rollover, but not much evidence to back it up. For instance I've heard that the A-pillar area on a car is the weakest link during a rollover and most likely to give, which would mean that a back-half cage is somewhat a moot point.
  19. roll bar padding is a joke, you'll still pass enough g-forces onto your brain to cause SERIOUS injury in the event your head hit it during a crash. I think that while your concern and want for a cage is warranted, you may be jumping the gun. Do a couple driver's events first and see what you think. I'm not experienced in the local rally world, but I would also tend to think that a cage would put you into a class you wouldn't want to be in.
  20. once again....missing the point. If you're buying a 60K sports car to drive in the rain or snow....you're missing the point of the car. Why make a decision about a car based on a situation that you'll encounter very infrequently in the car? Buy a beater Subi for the snow.
  21. M3 doesn't need it! if you're driving the car in the snow or drag racing it, you're missing the point
  22. DIKEATR .... I crack myself up sometimes. on a more serious note I like the idea of NO ROTR
  23. that's cool. I'm supporting my buddy in participating in St. Baldrick's day on the 15th, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it or not yet. You should start a thread in the Meetings section to see if you can get a FD turnout.
  24. Jackson, while i'm not a big fan of blue cars it looks to be a pretty solid color. Looking forward to finished pics. I'm assuming you painted the hood as well? Juiced, I hadn't heard about the meet, are you bringing your FD out?
  25. staying blue, or getting a new color? I washed the FD and took it out to destroy the ozone
