  1. I assume "brand spanking new" was because they would smack babies on the ass to make sure they were breathing, and mom would hear them cry.
  2. I'm not a fan of bolt-ons, but my buddy's ex-wife had a pair, and whenever I would refer to them as "fake," he would say, "oh they're real. they're sure as shit not imaginary! I've touched them!" (he has since admitted that they weren't that great)
  3. I have never found Subaru's seemingly lifetime supply of hood-scoops to be the most attractive cars on the market, but I wouldn't call many of them "ugly," nor "boring" unless you stick with the base trim models. They are sedans and wagons to be sure, but that is what makes them awesome - the fact that you can have fun driving something that is practical. I like cars. A lot, actually. But isn't a part of the reason we're each drawn to bikes the fact that they do things cars cannot, for a fraction of the price? I would enjoy an STi, or a Vette in the garage, but frankly the latter would be nearly as impractical as the bike. Why would I own 2 vehicles that do the same thing well, when the alternative is a vehicle that is still enjoyable to drive, but can also perform competently in the snow, and move 4 people in comfort while doing it?
  4. did I miss where you mentioned what will be replacing it?
  5. I can't get in on the RWD love-fest. I didn't mind my ranger once it was moving, but I could literally back out of my driveway, and not be able to pull forward to go to work some mornings. I was lucky to get back into my driveway. I liked drifting it around corners, and I only ever had a couple of "shit... the back-end is stepping out, and I'm NOT making it up this hill" moments, but I don't miss it. FWD feels unstoppable by comparison, and liberal use of the parking brake means I can 'drift' it around corners almost as well.
  6. All county employees and law enforcement officers (I am both) who work, or might be on patrol within a certain radius of the Perry nuclear power plant are provided with potassium iodide tablets. I totally admit that it has zero to do with the current topic, which is why I thought it was a funny response to your otherwise pretty decent retort. As noted, I was playing devil's advocate. I don't necessarily disagree with you.
  7. I have been considering snow tires, given my 37 mile commute directly through the snow-belt ...but I'm not really concerned about getting stuck or spinning out; just being late. A few weeks of driving in the snow may change my mind, but I'm thinking everyone else is going to hold me up more than the weather. That would only be exaggerated by snow tires :-/
  8. Just to race against people I know, but I guess most of them have white plates now anyway... I'll have to see how things shake-down at the track day first anyway. But really, an F4i is probably the perfect middle-ground for anyone who has ever wanted to own 1 track bike for their entire riding career... It's a really forgiving chassis, but enough power to keep you in-touch with much newer bikes on the straights.
  9. As was pointed out, you can pick them up for significantly less than $300, and the pins are included. If you have multiple bikes, I believe the new pins are $80 (although it's not too difficult to find them used) If you can make your own, definitely do that. It's not a complicated setup - it's just made much better than I could ever fabricate. I found it to be well worth the money during the time I owned it. Not only did it save time loading, and take away any fears of straps giving out, but it saves a TON of space on/in the trailer too. The picture posted is a great example - there are no straps to step over or load around. On my open trailer, I used to put my bike very close to the right frame-rail. I would not have been able to do that with straps, because there wouldn't have been a tie-down point far enough to the right.
  10. That is what Pit-Bull charges from their website ...Contact Nathan at RidersDiscount.com. They did better than that for me a few years back.
  11. I can't afford a full race season on a big bike. I might make it out for a couple rounds next year, but not enough to warrant a designated (full-sized) race bike. I have to rationalize the cost by being able to commute on it every so often. I live on the West side and work out near your place... I plan to run the full OMRL calendar, and I'll race whatever street bike I pick up when my schedule allows. There's usually a couple of 5-7 week breaks in their season that will provide ample time to goof off at Nelson. Will Todd let an SV650 run with 600 Superbike? (novice)
  12. Not mine, but this would be perfect for all of you who have even casually mentioned not wanting to risk your street rides at the track: http://tracktalk.nesba.com/showthread.php?t=31220 $1800!!!! 2001 F4i with track plastics, woodcraft rearsets and clip-ons. Somebody needs to race the shit out of this thing with MotoSeries next year. I bet it's capable of 1:13's in its current condition. Are you?
  13. Funny you should use that example. I have potassium iodide tablets in my desk drawer at this very moment, courtesy of the Ohio Department of Health.
  14. isn't that a bit like asking if the fall killed a sky diver, or if it was the sudden stop at the ground?
  15. To play devil's advocate... Does "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" only apply to firearms? How many officers should be killed before you would find this to be a rational purchase? How many explosive attacks should there be before it's necessary? Plus I think it would be totally badass to watch that thing drag some cars out of illegal spots on game day. The crown-vics, Impalas, Chargers, Explorers, and even the expeditions (if they still have those) aren't going to get that done!
  16. I developed an interest in BMW bikes having watched "The Long Way Round" over the last month or so. The more I look at this one, the more I like it. Needs a 'real' sub-frame and tail, but the rest of the look is exactly what I'd like to achieve on whatever bike I end up with next.
  17. The way the bird's friends are telling it on their forum, some psycho on a metal horse crashed into their friend with his face.
  18. I love the look, but the maintenance can be annoying. I am planning to re-lace my XR100 rim this winter. Ask me again after that if I still think the aesthetics are worth it :-P
  19. This is actually why I was curious. The SV I'm looking at has a 2005 ZX6 shock on it, and I was wondering why this one wouldn't also work.
  20. may also fit SV's. The What is the difference with 05/06 that it won't fit those two years?
  21. I looked at a Katana 600 last weekend, and I'm supposed to look at a Kat 750 Saturday. But I also have my eye on a VERY cheap SV650 in WV... I'm seriously debating driving down this weekend, but it's 350 miles each way
  22. I'm Facebook friends with Josh Herrin - $300 to ride Jennings for a day next weekend. He will be renting out the track to get back in the 600cc groove in preparation for Moto2 next year. $300 sounds a little steep for one day of riding, but I'm betting it will be tons more track time than any mere mortal can handle, and then you can always tell people "I rode with Josh Herrin once, before he was in Moto2." I doubt they're trying to profit off the day, but with short notice, I don't think they're anticipating many takers. Open track is in the forecast!
  23. If you have garage door questions for that steel building, I know a guy. The whole "Anderson Door Racing" sponsorship thing has its perks.
  24. That rental agreement has to be 10 pages long... I'm certain they disclaim everything, and you're totally effed if you lay the bike down. I agree with Pauly on two different levels here: 1) The liability exposure is going to be huge. Even with said air-tight disclaimer in place, there are going to be lawsuits. Winning still costs money. 2) I don't see how it's a financially viable business model unless they are doing a lot more volume than I would anticipate. They must be getting some kind of "fleet" pricing on the bikes, and have talked to HD dealerships about accepting low-mileage rentals at an agreed-upon price when Enterprise is done with them. That's how I think they'll have to make money... Knowing that they're only "renting" the bikes themselves, and then selling them with a few thousand miles on them while the resale value is still high.
