  1. you sure that wasn't from the previous owner? PJ was a weird dude. who knows when on with that bike behind closed doors...
  2. come up to Nelson tomorrow to hang out. Go home with 8 lbs of extra cargo. I'll have a chair and shade w/ your name on it. Probably water too; I just dont' want to make a firm promise on that and then pass out int he 5th session
  3. You don't want to be a "one track pony." Don't get me wrong, you can do way worse than Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio as your "primary" tracks, but different tracks teach you a lot. it's worth a little time and effort to go some place new. No argument on the RC8 though. I started talking about it in the 1190R thread, but the RC8 impressed the hell out of me with a 7th in its AMA debut. Chris Filmore deserves a lot of credit too, of course. I know they were only scheduled for 3 events this season, but with one of them being VIR, I'm wondering if the crew might have something else in the works now. Brian? Care to comment?
  4. it was impressive for a first race, but the KTM impressed me a lot more. 7th in their first race ever? that's nuts. Granted, I think they had a lot more time to test and tune; and the Buell held its own for sure, but the KTM was on the pace from day 1. Nasty.
  5. these things are like $22 new. Nothing wrong with this one. A little rust from use, but still looks pretty darn good for being a year old. it will fit a 2" class III receiver, and the Reese models (unlike the cheaper harbor freight versions) have a recessed area where the ball "locks" into place, so you can tighten it with 1 wrench instead of 2. <photo place holder - uploading now> (Ball not pictured, and not included)
  6. two quick observations: 1) there is no such thing as a "cool trike" and 2) I must be watching way too much Top Gear, because as soon as I saw that "bridge limit 4 persons" sign, I immediately thought, "bridge limit 4 persons - or 2 Americans."
  7. eh, you're still riding. I didn't "miss" you.
  8. so what's our "roll call?" SJC1000rr - advanced APCh8r - advanced/coaching Jbot - advance/coaching Blue636 - Advanced/coaching redkow97 - Advanced Imprez55 - Instructional Rjettman - Instructional(??) Rslocum - Open? RubbersideDown - Open? Grapesmuggler27 - Open? JazzMotorsports - "a couple guys." no indication of group. Did I miss anyone?
  9. side note - i have an affinity for BMW sport-tourers ever since the 2010 AMA weekend at Mid-Ohio. the couple camping behind us rode up on one, and the chick was a total butterface. body was a 10 though. Anyway, she changed bikini tops with her tent door wide open, and if she had a boob-job, it was the best i've ever seen. Every time i see a big BMW touring bike, I'm reminded of those cans.
  10. appreciate all the replies. Pipe wrench is what I ended up using. $9.99 at Auto Zone, and I might actually use it again. I just used a 4" C-clamp to keep the base of the hitch from rotating, and then the pipe wrench on the nut itself. it's solid. Might silicone it just to be safe, but I'm not worried at all. The 4" rise makes my trailer almost PERFECTLY level, which is awesome. I'm maybe 1 or 2 degrees nose-heavy, so pretty much ideal Tongue weight can't be more than 45 or 50 lbs. I might throw the spare tire on the tongue to ADD weight.
  11. if watching people build practical shit were entertaining, there would be a show called "sons of toilet paper." That place makes 80% of its money from their military contract, and the other 20% from whichever cable network they're on. The stuff you see them build on the show is either INSANELY expensive, or they're losing money on it.
  12. $1500 seems pretty reasonable. Pretty sure a friend of mine paid $1800 for his 6x12. It was a little newer, but this one looks every bit as nice. Only difference is my buddy's was a silver v-nose.
  13. doesn't work if your birthday has already passed either. I already turned 28 in 2011, so this year i won't "turn" anything. if I use my next birthday, I get 112 (83+29)
  14. I've never heard anyone who owned a blackbird not like it, but it really depends on what you're coming from and what you expect it to do. I thought my '93 F2 was the shit the first time I rode it. All relative. I still have nothing bad to say about that bike, but now I have perspective about how far technology has come (and i'm talking about demo riding an '08 R6 - not my '03 honda).
  15. Auto Zone doesn't have them to loan, but they sell 'em for $12. I'm tempted to buy the thing, change the hitch in the parking lot, and then walk it back into the store and say, "here - now you have one to loan me when I need this again in 4 years." it's just going to take up room in my tool box or somewhere on/in my work bench.
  16. any dyno sheets from HD's? I'm curious.
  17. the guy's only got 11 posts - may want to ease up on the "inside" jokes from other threads! how do you plan to ride? The blackbird is kind of a pig of a bike by today's standards, but it had a great engine, as far as I know. Would probably make a good sport-tourer for longer trips on straight roads.
  18. (P.S. - assuming JU is correct about the "agreement to agree," i'm significantly more disappointed in VIR, and less irritated with the AMA.
  19. John Ulrich is full of win. http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=45288 (p.s. - subscribe to Road Racing World - money well spent if you're even remotely into track riding or racing)
  20. worth a trip to wally world I guess. I need more ammo anyway
  21. this is what I should have done when I was buying the larger "drop" (being used as a rise) last night... I almost did, but I thought my current crescent wrench was big enough
  22. Take it back to State 8 and see what it's worth on trade-in. Wait until it's crowded. When they say "$2,000" you need to say loudly and clearly, "$2,000!? But you sold it to me for $5,xxx just over 3 months ago! Are you ripping me off now, or were you ripping me off when you sold it to me?" I suppose you could give them the chance to play nice first, but I think it's clear that they exploited a first-time buyer.
  23. if you have this for any length of time, I will find an excuse to make a trip south. Couple of people in your neck of the woods want to try on or buy the leathers i have for sale, so I could come home with a carry pistol, and some cash maybe
