  1. are you fucking kidding? the car driver is obligated to guess a bike's closing speed by the noise from its exhaust? I agree that he should have looked, but a single headlight makes it harder to judge the distance. so does darkness. If the speed limit there is 35, it's totally reasonable for the guy to see a headlight, and assume the vehicle is only going to be coming at him at a maximum of 50mph or so. the car driver did 1 thing wrong - failed to yield. The rider was speeding, doing a wheeling, and probably accelerating far more rapidly than is safe or necessary (especially in the dark). All three of those things are illegal (the last being "gross display of speed"). some people on this site seem to think that riders can do no wrong.
  2. HAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha - I think Shoei has "given" him plenty. I totally agree that he should send the pics to Shoei. Maybe a thank you note too. Bet they'd feature the bike (and rider) in an ad, or on their website, etc.
  3. exactly what i was thinking. besides, I don't think the car driver is totally unreasonable to assume that the bikes would be doing at least CLOSE to the speed limit. If you see them pull away from the light, and think, "that light's 500 feet away - i'm good," I don't think it's incumbent upon the car driver to read the riders' minds and know they're going to race each other or be traveling double the speed limit. Like the article said though, it sounds like they were both at fault. The guy's brother is a retard for yelling at a guy pinned in a car with the cops around though. Makes me wonder what went down before the cops got there!
  4. I think they run a pretty tight ship. Advertising costs a lot and either inflates costs, or cuts into profit margins. Focusing on 'free' marketing on forums, and being fucking awesome at customer service means that they have very loyal customers, and do a lot of volume from a relatively small group of people.
  5. it's fire retardant material and probably gives the wearer cancer, but ya, I think some kind of vacuum storage would be ideal. If I put it in the museum, I would loan it to them initially. IF i were to sell it though, I would want to make sure it went some place it would be displayed.
  6. My grandfather worked for Ford for many years, and my uncle recently shared some pics of him with the original Mustang prototype. (this) (NOT this) I guess they were on some kind of press tour with the open-top rear-engine V4 car. My grandfather worked in PR & Marketing. In any case, I believe there were only two of the prototype made. I'm told one was destroyed, and the other is in the Henry Ford Museum (I've seen it there, and that's where it is in the picture I posted). To cut to the chase, I am now in possession of an original "Mustang" assembly-line jump-suit with my grandfather's name embroidered on the chest. I'm sure these weren't all that rare in the 60's, because every line worker had one (or probably 5). What I think makes mine unique is the fact that it was only used in photo-shoots, so it's in immaculate condition. My question for you guys is, how do I preserve it, and what do I do with it? I've had it hanging in a garment bag in my closet for a few years now, and the pictures just reminded me it was there... I have no intention of selling it, but I'm considering loaning it to the Henry Ford Museum, if they even have any interest in it... thoughts? would this really be worth a lot of money? Part of me doesn't want to find out that it's valuable so I'm not even tempted to sell it...
  7. To be fair, I haven't heard Ringo complain. I think the bigger issue is how the "bullying" comes across to the general public who lurk, but don't post. Whether he's asking for it or not, the appearance of impropriety can be as damning as the real deal.
  8. IS. Just don't tell him I said so
  9. My dad used to tell my brothers and me, "you can't walk around starting fights and then come crying to me when someone breaks your nose." I think we could allow a bit more time for some newcomers to get acclimated to the site before we start joking with them as if we've known them for years, but some people show up inviting the barrage of insults and sarcastic responses. Talking in "code" and claiming to go 185 mph on public roads is asinine. It's akin to me getting on a firearms forum and bragging about playing Russian roulette.
  10. everything except T13 is pretty quick. Done right, average speed is over 100mph each lap. The only place I have trouble putting a knee down is T4. That's a combination of me being a pussy in left-hand turns, and the fact that it's got a LOT of camber. Knee is on the ground for a looong time in the carousel, unless you pick it up to preserve puck life.

i stopped taking him seriously a while ago; actually pretty much as soon as I read the original post in this thread. Any more, any thread he starts, i check out of morbid curiosity, post very lightly, and move on...
  12. The 650R is a great rider's bike. Kawasaki made a big deal about designing the bike to fit the rider, and they actually did a damn good job. It's not quite as sporty as an SV650, but you wouldn't know it unless you were to race them against each other. if yours has any flaw, it might be that it's TOO nice to afford.
  13. can we add race events too, or do you want to keep this just trackdays? I really want to ride this Sunday. Will drive ~6 hours each way to do so...
  14. I just think a "kit" bike would give you the chance to get everything you love about the old bike, but make it a lot safer, more reliable, and ultimately more rideable than the original. Think about that old Duc with better brakes, a reliable and more powerful engine, modern cartridge-style forks and shocks, and gauges that actually work. I'm sold on this idea. Hell, this is the type of operation you could set up in your garage if you built a frame jig and had 2 or 3 crate motors to build around... Replica tanks and fenders couldn't be that expensive to produce.
  15. ^ i call the hot ones. "fly a plane" "race at Laguna Seca" "run a marathon" "kill a deer during bow season" "do every 22 yr old chick on the planet" "skydive" "swim in every ocean" etc.
  16. whatever. you know you want me. I bet you a hundred dollars you've already slept with dudes that are less attractive than me ...plus I can corner low and have good credit. that shit makes chicks horny.
  17. I think you misunderstood my tasteless joke. I was implying that new girls are turning 22 every day, so it would be a life-long endeavor to have sexual relations with "every" 22 yr old girl.
  18. I thought I overheard someone say that it actually belonged to a friend of his. The owner was there, but not riding the bike. I need friends like that.
  19. I'm with ya. Start your bucket list early. The cool shit I'm going to want to do when I'm 80 probably hasn't even been invented yet. besides, "every 22 yr old chick on the planet" fluctuates daily.
  20. Never owned anything rare, but I've had some close encounters with a couple cool bikes: 1968 Norton Commando 750. My ex's parents had a friend in CA who restored it. Had it up to 95 with me riding bitch! It burned just a little bit of oil until it warmed up, and then ran flawlessly. 2008/09(?) Ducati Desmosedici. It was right when they had first come out, and some guy had it at my 3rd & 4th trackday ever. This was at BeaveRun in early May of 2008. He was really cool about people dropping by the garage to eye the bike up. I guess anyone willing to actually RIDE something that expensive at any kind of pace probably figures "they can't screw it up by looking at it." I saw a cool MV at Mid-Ohio last year too. The one that's in 'The Dark Knight.' The M4 or something? I never looked up the model. The little engineering 'differences' are what make MV's kind of neat to me. Things like the front axle releasing through the bottom of hinged forks rather than sliding out the side.
  21. this thread should be called, "what guns do you own that you're not worried about admitting on a public forum." love my Ruger 10/22. I would shoot it a lot more if I had land If money were no object, I'd own a short-barrel shotgun for home defense and emergency hunting duty; a 9mm carry pistol; a .380 wheel gun; and probably a .22lr pistol for good measure (and because .22lr is cheap and easy to stockpile). After that, a high(er) powered rifle would probably be a good thing to have. Nothing crazy, but something with more range.
  22. This makes me wonder why there isn't a cottage industry for kit bikes. I can built a Replica Shelby cobra from a box of parts, shipped to my door, and the result is almost as cool as the original, runs better (0 miles), and costs a ton less. I would totally make a replica "classic" Duc with a more modern engine and transmission.
  23. think of it as "bigger pistons, bigger torque. smaller pistons, bigger horsepower." Then liquid cooling will almost always allow for higher RPM than air cooling, so liquid cooled engines usually put out more power than air-cooled engines of the same size and configuration.

why would someone ask a question without using a question mark?

    otterbox?

the otterbox cases work, but i don't know how you can use your phone with it. A friend of mine has the otterbox, and I always rip on him for it. "Hey russ, my case broke - is there room for my phone in yours?" allegedly his did fall in a pool and survived though. I use a free rubber-case i got w/ an advertisement on the back.
