  1. Fwiw, I scrapped the idea of enclosing my trailer and just wrap the bike in packing plastic when I'm towing through road salt... i was going to camp in the trailer, but for the cost of the build materials, I can get a decent tent.
  2. You're adding serious weight. I toyed with the idea of making my 4x8 into an enclosed unit that I could take apart and stow, but you're expecting a lot more than I was. 1/4" plywood weighs 22 lbs. per 4x8 sheet, plus you're building a giant brick. Air drag at highway speeds will be a lot worse than the weight itself. If you're not dissuaded, I think 1/4" ply sides (aluminum angle pieces for the corners add rigidity without adding much weight), and then a truck cap for a topper. That sounds like the most practical option. In the alternative, building a sloped plywood top wouldn't be that hard. Hinge the hitch-end and prop up the tail while loading and unloading.
  3. A friend, who is a much better person than I am, has been helping a homeless mother with 4 yr old twins get back on her feet. She has a valid license, but no car. I am looking for cheap, but running, options for her. Ryan's Mazda would have been perfect... Poor timing. LMK what you may have for sale, or if you have any kind or lamps, couches, appliances, etc you can spare.
  4. that windshield is hideous, but I bet i would regret removing it...
  5. That wouldn't get as many clicks though.
  6. The fact that he was playing Pokemon is completely irrelevant to the story. The kid asked to use his phone, then ran off with it. wouldn't have been any different if he'd been talking on his phone, or had it in his pocket. Stealing phones and selling them at kiosks is extremely common. Depending on the phone, you get $20-$150. The kiosk people aren't stupid, and they know that some of the phones are stolen. The machines take your picture before dispensing any money. Those companies tend to be relatively helpful to law enforcement in tracking down stolen phones and providing evidence to police departments. The human-operated 'sunglass hut' style phone places are significantly less vigilant about photographing the people selling them phones.
  7. Obviously the app's fault, and not the kid who shot him. What an idiot. that kid's going to be in prison for a decade or more. For a phone.
  8. September 3, but I took off from 9/1-9/16, so I'm sure she'll be late. I'm preparing for the next few years of riding/racing to be pretty sparse Toddlers can be exhausting when you're alone with one all day, so even a one-day event at CRP puts me in the dog house (a little). Adding an infant into the mix probably won't help. I figure I can gain back some freedom when our oldest can come along with me and be trusted to entertain herself while I'm out on the track. Once they can BOTH ride, I'll be able to make a hard pitch for a toy hauler . My biggest fear at that point is that I turn into "pit-bitch" dad, instead of "racer dad."
  9. Hit level 13 today. Spent my lunch doing laps in the square by my office. There are about 7 pokestops and 2 gyms. Not sure how far i walked, but more than I ever have at lunch... Really wondering how devoted I'll stay when it snows! I am resisting the urge to power-up any of my Pokemon until I get to a higher level. Hoarding stardust for when I have something more rare to use it on.
  10. meh. Kids are worth it. Good luck with the sale. Sincerely. I am putting 'new' toys on hold for a while. New fridge last month, new car this month, new brakes on the other car today, and new baby in September ...which will equate to $7200 in lost wages before my wife goes back to work. Adds up fast!
  11. Does this mean you're sitting for the bar exam as I type this? Ohio kicked off this morning at 8:00. Done Thursday at noon.

    BLM

I wish they had called the movement "Black Lives Matter, Too." Then there wouldn't be any of the "All Lives Matter" rebuttal nonsense, feigning stupidity as to what they meant. BLM is a good idea that's been poorly executed, and overtly exploited by violent assholes.
  13. You had 3 kids in 2 years. Craig's bike is too nice for me to ruin. I need a clapped-out first gen SV that I won't feel badly about letting sit way too much. Or crashing.
  14. Bash all you want, but I am really enjoying the game. I've been playing it for a couple of days, and it gets more interesting as you go. I mentioned it in another thread, but I've just been turning the game on while I walk or bike to the park with my daughter. I also drive a block out of my way on the way to and from work to stop at the Pokestop near my house. At lunch, my secretary and I walk through the square on our way to Subway. There are 3 Pokestops and 2 gyms withing a couple hundred yards. Am I taking it "seriously?" No. Is it fun and entertaining for the moment? Absolutely. I haven't quite settled on a strategy. Don't think i'm far enough along to need one.
  15. I'm working for a buddy and his dad on a flip property. I hope out with demolition and general clean-out, then come back to help stage and lanscape when it goes to market. The heat alone is reason enough not to buy in June... G&J is just a really long weekend for me with the 4+ hour drive. I wanted to make it, but the wife is almost 8 months pregnant, and neglecting my parenting duties with our toddler for an entire weekend would not bode well for me... Plus I barely get to see the crumb-grabber during the week. We spent Sunday at the park, catching pokemon and going down the slide. I got a little yard work done while she ran through the sprinkler. Looks like i missed a fun time. I'll make it when at least one of the kids is old enough to come with me and supervise herself while I ride.
  16. I didn't know about the cloud storage. I need ot stop storing pics in my Apple cloud. filing up my phone.
  17. Didn't buy anything yesterday, but Prime is the shit. $80/year for free shipping pays for itself quickly, and 2-day shipping is awesome. They make their money off me when I pay $6 to rent Zoolander fucking 2 for 48 hours though. I always rationalize it by saying, "eh... $6 is less than I'd spend on a beer and a burger, and I stayed in instead."
  18. yeah... I just wish there was a system that didn't include a bunch of stuff I don't want Basically I want my 32GB iPad to be the "brain" of the system, or cloud-store the recordings. I would only set it to record when motion is detected, so it wouldn't be a ton of video, and I presume you could set it to clear files after 15 days or so. In a perfect world, I could add door/window alarms as well. iSmart has all those features, but it packages them with stand-alone motion detectors and outlet timers I don't want. I just want their 'brain' and the cameras ($150 each)
  19. Is there a battery-operated camera system that is motion activated and will wirelessly connect to my iPad, and I can record/review everything through a spiffy app??? that's what i want... No wiring. No storage hardware. just cameras, and my iPad. And I want it to be cheap
  20. Cool CB. I remember you talking about the engine build, but I don't think i'd seen pictures. Ride it to bike night and put a for sale sign on it... No CL scammers or people who don't call back. LBTS. GLWS.
  21. flush the coolant. IT's good for your bike, and water wetter cleans up easier. Required or not, you'll feel like a dick if you piss antifreeze all over the track and it ruins everyone else's day. Distilled water is so cheap... Adding water wetter increases cooling ability and lubricates your water pump. ...or find an air-cooled bike.
  22. You're ignoring some information, and we don't have other pieces of information that are necessary to make a determination of who was (more) at fault. 1) the motorcycle cop wouldn't be riding without a license, or under suspension. 2) we don't know the rider's speed, or at what distance he was following. I'm not here to bash the dead. It sucks that the guy died (even if he was at fault), and maybe he was obeying the law to-the-letter, but I question how "experienced" this rider was. All I've seen is a bunch of pics of him with "N" stickers on his S1000R. His skill level is irrelevant if he really had no part in causing or contributing to the collision, but we don't know if that's the case. It also wouldn't be the firs time a track rider thought his new skills (real or imaginary) made him hot-shit on the streets, and gave him a false sense of security riding in an unsafe manner. I nearly killed myself on a fucking EX500 after a few track days... Leaned way over on an entrance ramp, drifted wide, and got into the gravelly shit between the ramp and the highway. I never left the pavement, but the rear stepped out on me. It was pure luck that I didn't crash at 75+ with 65mph traffic approaching behind me. There are two sides to every story, and the truth usually lies somewhere between them.
  23. So I take it you're working hard to get Jill Stein on the ballot? I realize the odds of her being elected are slim, but if you were enthusiastic about Sanders, Jill Stein is 99% aligned with his campaign, and she's not endorsing Hillary to continue the 2-party stranglehold on American politics. Sanders is selling out. Will your efforts change things? Probably not in any way you can perceive, but I do believe that actively supporting a candidate has an effect, if only on people who you know and influence. You're a smart guy, Paul. You probably have more influence than you realize.
