  1. I'm allergic to eggs and it was the only place open, jerk! Those fuckers are just lucky they didn't short me by 1 McNugget. I would have burned down the building.
  2. dragging elbows is so last summer. I'm so hardcore, I drag shoulder, hip, helmet, frame slider, and handlebar. it's the shit.
  3. "my clutch was slipping." :-p
  4. who could possibly have foreseen that?
  5. ^ lol. I heart bench racing. a buddy of mine "laps" me almost every session. He has tire warmers, and I don't. We've learned to grid up far enough apart that he "laps" me at about 3 laps into the session. He comes by me, and it's game on
  6. I agree with Brian, but I don't even think letting the riders change bikes is really a fair way to evaluate which bike is better. 1) I promise I'm going to be faster on my bike, because i've got x,xxx track miles on it. Some things are just second-nature to me now. 2) If my goal is to prove that your bike is slower, why would I push on your bike? Now if the goal is just to prove who the better rider is, than it's more plausible that trading bikes matters. If i turn a faster lap than you can on YOUR bike, I think that probably makes me the better rider, but the debate started with negative comments about the ZX10's handling. I only jumped-in because I thought it was incredibly comical that anyone thought a ZX14 would be a good choice on a road course, and wanted a free track day out of it
  7. I'm not sure it's "illegal" per se, but you can't sell something that doesn't belong to you. If you don't have a title, it doesn't belong to you.
  8. OH makes it damn near impossible to get a title for a bike unless you lost the title when it was already in your name. That's a simple trip to the BMV, but you'll never get that bike street-legal in Ohio. Other states have looser laws. If you can find a friend in such a state, they might be able to obtain a title in their name and state, and then sell you the bike for $1.
  9. I signed up in "I" since i've only been to Mid-Ohio once and never ridden with their staff. Figured it was the safest move. if all goes well, I hope to be up to "A" pace by lunch on Monday though.
  10. than you're going to get your ass handed to you for the other 5/4's of each lap
  11. Monday weather looks like shit, but Tuesday looks clear. Like the forecast is ever right anyway. The "80% chance of rain" at beave turned out to be 95% dry riding. I'll be there both days regardless (camping Sunday and Monday night), just might be drinking by noon on Monday if the "scattered thunderstorms" aren't scattered enough... look for my bike (Cleveland Browns colors). I'll be pitted with a friend from NY, so NY tags on a Tahoe(?) with a 6x12 enclosed trailer. not sure of the color of his trailer. It's new. 440-336-776 four - Chris
  12. is this an open invitation for any 600?
  13. good for the red cross. I can't stand giving blood... hat's off to those who do it.
  14. the prevailing opinion is that the deer tried to stop and turn around, but slipped on the pavement. I've seen the same happen on public roads, but the deer has always managed to get back up before being hit. I think the theory is sound though.
  15. he should have realized it was a road course. I went back and looked at Dubguy's post: do they have "track days" at drag strips? (I honestly don't know). from where I'm sitting, DubGuy85 proposed the bet, and Ninja14 counter-offered with a ZX14 instead of a ZX10. I was late to the party, but i'm totally willing to step in if Dubguy loses his nerve. I enjoy being right, but damn you all for scaring Ninja14 away!
  16. let's get a separate thread going for this bet. I really want to see this happen, and I'm good for the track fees.
  17. this is exactly the point. it's like saying, "that weight set only comes with 500 lbs." unless you can lift 500 lbs., it's an irrelevant complaint. The Kawasaki struggles at the World Superbike level because of the chassis problems Brian mentioned, but 99% of consumers will never be capable of pushing it to a point where that matters. They're not lifting 500 lbs. as for a ZX14 being faster than a 600 around a road course, I think it's possible with a novice on a 600 and an experienced rider on the 14, but riders being equal, it's going to take a really long straight for the 14 to close the gap the 600 creates in the turns. The more skilled the rider, the more pronounced the effect will be. That said, I think a 14 COULD chase down a 600 on a Road America length straight, but the 600 would sail by on the brakes into turn 1 and just repeat the process of opening up a lead the next lap...
  18. an oval would be interesting... I don't know Ninja14's track experience, but I think he's severely overestimating how much of an advantage horsepower provides against a competent rider.
  19. let me get this straight... Ninja14 on a ZX14, and dubguy85 on a 600, ON A ROAD COURSE? If dubguy85's not game, I am. You choose the track. I'll expect something with an epic straight-away to give you a fighting chance.
  20. The video's from a race. that pace at a trackday would be chaotic. I saw this on the WERA board right after it happened, but just based on the pace in the video, both riders must have "expert" licenses. the "fast pass" someone referenced was because the camera bike missed a shift (badly). Ironically, that's probably what kept HIM from hitting the deer. you should see the shit-storm some people on the WERA board were creating about how terrible it is that the track doesn't "control" the deer. supposedly there's an apple orchard very close to the track that attracts the deer like crazy, but what can you do? fences have this nasty habit of caging scared deer INSIDE perimeter of the track.
  21. ^ going fast doesn't take balls; it's the waiting until the last possible millisecond to brake and throw it into turn 1 that takes balls. a 2-piece design might work on a taller bed as well. That would essentially give you a 'curved' ramp. heavy-duty hinges and a pretty simple center support (i drew a box) would give you a 'curved' ramp.
  22. not necessarily. a long enough ramp (8') and a low enough bed (ranger) doesn't require a curved ramp. I have a home-made wooden ramp that I used for 2 years before picking up my trailer over the winter. I'm close to dismantling it now that I have an aluminum ramp for the trailer, but I'll post it up here i guess and see if anyone wants it. it's a little bulky, but it works.
  23. people usually like what they're most familiar with. And this isn't a simple question at all... on the world stage (World Superbike and Supersport), Honda's dominate the 600cc class - but at the club level, the front of the pack are all on R6's. So the Honda is "better," but the R6 is "better on a budget." I love my honda, but if i'm talking performance potential, reliability, ride-ability, etc., I'd have to rank the big 4: 1) Yamaha 2) Honda 3) Suzuki 4) Kawasaki The R6 is just an amazing package for the track. I'm used to my honda, but I've never seen anyone race and R6 and regret it. The R1 is just as trick. I put honda second because I love the fact that I can beat the hell out of my bike and know it's still relatively bullet-proof. I do think the 1000RR is kinda... off, but it's light as hell. Again, bullet-proof, which counts for a lot on my budget. Suzukis were listed third for me because I just don't like them. I can't explain why. I've always thought the headlight configuration was ugly, but they look fine from behind the bars. Whether i'm right or not, I've just always felt like the build quality of suzuki's aren't as "tight" as Honda and Yamaha. I can't definitively say why - probably because the GSXR is like the bat-signal for squids. Not suzuki's fault, but I do hold it against them. With that said, i admire that Suzuki continues to build a 750, and I know a LOT of racers who are fast as hell that swear up and down by the GSXR 1000. Probably the cheapest way to go racing with the big boys on the AMA stage. Like I said, I don't know why I don't like them more... and then there's Kawasaki... the new ZX6 is a bike I haven't ridden, but want to. The 636's transmission problems, and the current ZX10's dismal race performance have jaded me to a brand I should have developed strong loyalty to! I hope the 2011 ZX10 gets as good of reviews as the ZX6.
  24. "alot" isn't a word. And helmets DO chemically break down when exposed to sweat for prolonged periods of time. An Arai rep gave a good talk about it at a NESBA day a couple years ago. Any helmet should be good for 3 years. A helmet that sees light use (my street lid probably qualifies) should last 5 years. a well cared for helmet that has the liner washed once a month could last up to 7 years, but I've never met anyone who takes the time to do that. my rule is no more than 3 years for a track helmet, and 5 for street helmets. Race/trackday orgs sometimes ask how old your helmet is too. IIRC, 3 years was their 'limit.' they wouldn't stop you from riding with a 5 year old helmet, but they'd strongly advise that you look into replacing it. And that was an org who WAS NOT selling helmets on site, so they had nothing to gain...
