  1. you can buy this in 20 months when he's bored with it I'm just wondering what his daily driver is when the rear end is off the mustang!
  2. i guess i just like cheap fast stuff too much... There is a great video of dudes slapping a dry NOS kit on a rented crown victoria. I would have more fun with that than a car that's actually fast stock.
  3. how much lumber was tied up in that playhouse? I can usually get access to reclaimed 2x4's from a friend of mine who i help out with construction demolition. That would put a nice dent in my costs... I also like the height of your design. That would allow a finished ceiling, and a useful attic space, accessible via ladder (i'm thinking I would store skis and lumber scraps up there mostly, but lawn chairs and other stuff would probably fit too). Additional height means I could build an awning area off the side as well... I have way more ideas than funds.
  4. so a home defense shotgun with a rifled slug and tube plug to keep it at 2 rounds would be the simplest option...
  5. third one was supposed to be this http://www.homedepot.com/p/Arrow-Dakota-10-ft-x-14-ft-Steel-Shed-DK1014/100114563 $250 delivery is a joke though... you could copy the design for cheap, which is essentially what I plan to do when my shed needs replacing.
  6. i don't know why anyone builds cars when a $25k bike can pull those numbers.
  7. The bike was about teh only thing interesting in the first episode. I'm hoping the set-up was worth it.
  8. I have thought about adding a higher powered rifle to the collection at some point, but I know almost nothing about hunting rules and restrictions... Then again, if it's really an end-of-civilization scenario, no one's going to be policing the restrictions. Would a 9mm carbine take down a deer? This will be an unpopular thing to post, but I like the Hi-Point 995 carbine. The price is so cheap for what you get, and I'm not looking for it to be a show piece. It would do exactly what I want: take rounds I already stock for my pistol, and be easier to aim at distances. I can't foresee any scenario where I would need it to be accurate beyond 100 yards.
  9. hahahah - i wish. I stop at the gym on the way home to avoid traffic. I can work out for an hour and only get home half an hour later. For OP - now that the Mustang is gone, what's the next move? WRX?
  10. $699 10x8 plastic shed. Looks okay. http://www.homedepot.com/p/US-Leisure-Keter-Stronghold-10-ft-x-8-ft-Resin-Storage-Shed-157479/100652232 $699 10x10 wooden shed. looks less like a toy, and sturdier, but won't last forever... Can hang shelves. Can insulate. Can probably buy 2 and make it 10x20... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Handy-Home-Products-Princeton-10-ft-x-10-ft-Wood-Storage-Shed-18250-1/100350323 $650 10x14 steel shed. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Handy-Home-Products-Princeton-10-ft-x-10-ft-Wood-Storage-Shed-18250-1/100350323 seems like a nice middle-ground. No rotting wood, no shingling, and more secure than plastic. I kind of want this one now that I look at it... 10x14 is a decent size.
  11. The plastic ones to last, but they're extremely easy to break into. You can lift or bend the door-frame and just pull the door off the hinges. If that doesn't work for some reason, a bic lighter softens everything up in a hurry, and thieves can pull the locking mechanism right out of the door. I'm sure you're not planning on storing anything valuable in there, but kids to stupid things. My neighbors had a gas can stolen from their shed when I was a kid. We found it a couple of days later ...at the bottom of another neighbor's pool.
  12. If you build the form and are willing to accept whatever the truck drivers have left in the truck, you can get a free pad. That said, most people's schedules don't allow for that. I will do something like this: I'd count on it costing more than a grand though... I want quite a bit of space, and a roof-line that will allow for an 'attic' so I can insulate the ceiling and walls, and make it tolerable in the winter. maybe.
  13. mine shipped today, so I got it before it was out of stock. I'm reading the reviews, and people either love it or completely dismiss it. The biggest criticism has (predictably) been that it's just a flimsy steel cabinet that a 'real' thief will be emptying within 5 minutes. That's probably true, if he's got the proper tools, so I'm going to (try) to make a point of locking up the tools I own that I would use to perform such a task. I have a heavy steel cabinet in my garage that will work well for this task (not large enough for rifles). I only plan to throw a cheap combo lock on the tool cabinet, but it should force a would-be thief to at least bring his own tools to my house if he wants to get into the gun cabinet. The gun cabinet itself will be secured to the wall-studs. I haven't decided how many screws I will use, but they will be long enough that they're deep in the studs, and I'll have some in the back, and some in the side. I'll drill additional holes if i have to. That should be enough to make me feel good about it. I'm not sure if it will go in our walk-in closet, or in the guest room. I like the accessibility of having it in our bedroom, but I also like the idea of my wife forgetting it exists. Once we're settled, I'll be in the market for a shotgun, and possibly a 9mm carbine. I'm really hung-up on keeping the number of calibers I stock to a minimum, so 9mm carbine and 9mm handguns, then the 22 rifle, and a 22 handgun, then some type of shotgun; presumably 12 gauge, but I wouldn't write off the notion of a 20 gauge, or even a 410 if the right deal presents itself.
  14. you can't acknowledge there's a middle ground between shitty and amazing?
  15. Probably close out. That's why it was cheap.
  16. I may have misquoted the number, but the pics make it look possible. Three sections that fit 4-6 rifles apiece.
  17. You would think so... I don't do the odometer reading. I track each tank individually so it's not thrown when my wife puts gas in the car and doesn't track it. But yeah, it should be really simple. I have noticed the weather and/or winterized fuel affecting my fill-ups lately. I would get 400 miles from a tank pretty frequently a couple months ago. Now I'm getting 360-370. Same commute, same gas station for fill-ups.
  18. It's missing the left mirror, which is legal in OH, but missing the turn signal that the mirror houses on that bike is NOT legal. I would guess the guy is asking 7,xxx or more. I wouldn't pay more than $4500
  19. It's old, heavy technology. That doesn't make it a shitty bike. Now you're making me want to fix mine up and bring it to the unofficial OR track day. I bet it does better than people expect.
  20. Holds 16 rifles or fewer, and a bunch of other cool shit. I just bought mine from Walmart today. I wouldn't be bragging about a cabinet normally, but this thing is a STEAL at $102 from Walmart. It retails for $299 and the cheapest I could find it elsewhere was $178. http://c2.ugc.bazaarvoice.com/16527-en_us/493246/photo.jpg Mine arrives next week, but I won't unpack and assemble it until we move. At 100 lbs., it's higher gauge steel than the cheap cabinets, and it's a 3-point locking system rather than 2-point. For a hundred bucks, I am thrilled. Plus now I have room to hide things from the wife and pretend I bought them years ago.

    Trailer?

not trying to thread-jack, but why sell off the track bike right when you're starting to coach and ride at Mid-Ohio more often? I thought you were trying to fund the RD 675 bidding process, but now that that's off the market, is there something else you've got your eye on?
  22. I have tracked this loosely on my wife's car. Mine doesn't have a computer to do it for me. Anyway, the wife's car is usually .3-.5 mpg optimistic. That's a lot closer than I was expecting. I think it's more likely that fuelly users are making errors in entering their data. I know one woman on the corolla forums thought her car had a 14 gallon tank (way wrong. like, by 4 gallons...) and was dividing by 14 every time she filled up, rather than dividing by how much gas she actually added... That's one glaring example of stupidity, but it would pull down the average by a bit. Maybe not if it's only 1 person and 700,000 miles being tracked, but stupidity is a variable that can't be ignored.
  23. A lot of fuel economy is about how you drive it, so I'm not saying 27.x is inaccurate, but it appears to be the exception. For the 2009 2.5 liter impreza, they have 741,000 miles tracked, and those users are averaging 22.7 mpg. I average about 3 mpg better than the listed average for my car, but I drive 80 miles a day, almost all highway...
