  1. Centered on the carrier? Left to right, or radially? If you squish the button too tight the rotor will not float. Sounds to me like that's what you've got going on. Not to pick nits, but the last time I checked, the calipers on a bike don't "float". They're not like a car. The pads offer a small amount of float, but its relative to the amount of fluid that the master cylinder can displace. If the rotor alignment is off so much that it moves the piston back too far, that caliper won't grab the rotor - period. Could be fun when you really need to stop. My guess is you've got the potential to need more than luck.
  2. Oooops....too late. I'd say this "repair" was beyond your ability. In reality, you didn't "fix" anything, you eliminated a sound. In reality, the buttons are not "big rivets". They're more like a spacer that allow the rotor to slide on the carrier. Now you have reduced the distance they can slide. Possible results are now that the rotor could now be too far left, or too far right. If its far enough off, the rotor can now move your pads back far enough that you'll have reduced braking on the front. I'd say you're the one that needs the "luck".
  3. Nahhhh....cant be as bad as that. I'm sure the rotor is perfect now. Good luck with that.
  4. Ahhh yes....if it moves, hammer it. If it doesn't move hammer it. I'm sure its EXACTLY like its supposed to be now
  5. Four pounds? Seriously?
  6. MUCH better. Thanks...it was really buggin me.
  7. Welcome aboard. Hope you have thick skin....
  8. Welcome.... Cut that front fender down, would ya?

I really dont think he's gonna look good in it. White isnt his color
  10. I had a set of EBC's on the bike we won the Fasttrax Endurance Series with on 2005. They sounded sooooo ugly rolling the bike around, but damn you could go deeeeeeeep into the corners on the front brake...
  11. If you're looking at your bike from the front, a floating rotor should move left to right or right to left. That's what floating means. Your particular issue could be several things. Worn buttons, bad washers, bent carrier...really anything.
  12. Uhmmmm..... Floating rotors are SUPPOSED to float. How much they float is another story. If you have one side floating more than the other it could indicate a problem. Either the buttons or the spring washers behind them could be worn. Really, you haven't given anyone enough information to know for sure.
  13. A couple of thoughts: PUNCTUATION is your friend. Use some. Flamed heel guards and chrome on a GSX-R is like putting fur on a Ducati. If you want all that, buy a Harley. There are TONS of chrome parts available for them. That's all.
  14. Figure out how to get it, and you can have it. I'm up in the Akron area
  15. I've got a stock muffler - bolt on - for that bike if you're still running the stock head pipe and such.
  16. Just curious, but what percentage of the membership is over 35?
  17. Welcome Vera.... No Witttoms here....

    Seriously?

Yeah....whatever. He said, she said....doesn't really make a difference. I could say the same to you regarding "signing" your negative rep, but it doesn't really matter - fuck around if you want to. Its all good. I certainly don't give a rat's ass what you think of me or what everyone else here thinks of you. Maybe you are a great guy, but the attitude and opinions that you express here don't impress me. You're all ass, plain and simple. A scared little boy that never grew up. Oh, by the way, I'm married. My wife (unlike yours) doesn't feel the need to monitor my internet use or give me a "time out" from certain sites when I don't "behave". Guess we know who has the balls in your house, Nick.

    Seriously?

Obviously someone had wayyyy too much time on their hands. That's what I thought, but oh well. Thanks. I wasn't whining, Ben. Just making a statement. Basically, you have the opportunity to have a pretty decent board here that lacks the tight-assed regulars that the other "local" board has. Unfortunately, the juvenile behavior of a lot of the regulars here kind of ruins the rest of the experience - at least in my opinion. The "rep" situation really just lets the inmates run the asylum and I think you'll continue to have problems with it no matter how you monitor it, or what requirements you put to it. Just my $0.02. Peace.

    Seriously?

Wow....someone needs to get a life. Wish I could see how many it REALLY took to move my rep to -916. You win Nick. Y'all have fun with your petty high school bull shit.
  21. Show me where the US leads in "brain power". Been to a college campus lately? Since when is brain power manufacturing??? Progressive dies and deep draw dies are hardly more "advanced" than an extrusion die. I could show you some aluminum and PVC shapes that would blow your mind. I personally know SEVERAL owners of die shops (primarily progressive die experts) that can't even come close to competing with the price from off shore. Robotic welding started here? Gimme a break. The first robotic assembly machines were done by Fanuc. Last time I checked they're a Japanese company. Shipping from those countries - especially by the full container load - is still more economical than manufacturing it here. And trust me, it doesnt take 6 weeks for it to get here. I can have a container (pacific or atlantic) here in three weeks. Customs time is another story, but you plan for that. Inventory can EASILY be maintained using offshore suppliers. If it couldn't be, you wouldn't see so many companies doing it. I've been in Manufacturing for 99% of my adult life. I'd hate to see it go completely, and honestly I don't think it will. To grow manufacturing in the US you have to make it MORE attractive for companies to do it here as opposed to off shore. You don't do that by making it more expensive to do it in foreign countries (taxes and tariffs), you do it by making it more economical to do business here. Based on the current econimic and political climate, it won't happen.
  22. Believe it or not, your K&N might not flow as good as stock. I know that we found that to be true on several bikes. Find a guy in your area with a dyno that knows something about carbs and let him do it.
  23. Sure, you can maintain manufacturing, but you can't do it as inexpensively as China, Korea, India, Turkey, etc. So, if you can't offer a comparable item for the same or lower cost, why would you do it? That's why we don't manufacture much here any more. Sure, we put a lot of stuff together, but that's not the same. Take for instance, extrusion dies. A die made here used to cost an extruder $20,000-$40,000 depending on complexity. The same die can be sourced in China or Korea for 1/10th of that. Why? Labor is cheaper (no unions). Government subsidies for raw materials, no EPA, no "OSHA", no "social security", and the list goes on. The savings to a company that runs 30 or 40 lines is astronomical. I was in the Machine Tool Industry 20 odd years ago and saw Japan eat our lunch for a number of years before Taiwan, China and Korea took that over. We've seen the US auto industry have their collective asses handed to them by Japan for almost the same amount of time. Korea is making great strides in that industry now, as is India. Its only a matter of time. I'm sure if I thought about it long enough I could come up with several other "US industries" that have gotten fat dumb and happy only to have someone show them how to do it. The writing has been on the wall for decades. Everything that's going on now is far too little and wayyyyyy too late.
  24. Dont forget that lean is hot. Hot is bad. With a full pipe and an aircleaner, you really need to rejet the bike. The only way to do that accurately is on a dyno.
