  1. The XX is a crazy bike, only a crazy person would buy and ride one... It can handle anything you throw at it, more power/torque than you will ever need for the street, a couple of minor issues with noisy CCts and things, but overall bulletproof reliability. handles 2-up without hesitation, handles corners beautifully (as long as you understand countersteering), stock banana seat is a little uncomfortable for longer rides (or so I've heard), get it over 6000 rpm and prepare to be addicted to the "hyperdrive" the torque and power curves just spike. It's heavy, and combersome to move around by hand. It's hot if you get stuck in traffic jams, or slow stop and go city traffic for long periods of time. Eats tires pretty quickly depending on how often you power wheelie or how hard you accelerate. 7-8000 is about the best i've gotten out of a rear tire before that dreaded steel snake rears it's ugly head. fuel economy isn't great, my average is about 30 mpg on nice days, if there is a week of rainy wet roads my average jumps up to about 45 mpg. that's been my experience of the last 3 riding seasons.
  2. I'm with cooter on this one....a blast's fuel tank isn't going to just get water in it...
  3. Just chillin here sipping a pepsi.
  4. It was a pointed comment regarding the long life of ideas in contrast to the short life of those that believe it... Not trolling, just to drive the point home.
  5. I didn't say their "cause" died with them... that's the thing about ideas, they reside within human brains, but they can also lay dormant on paper, or anywhere else... it's very hard to kill an idea... And as much as GWB thought he was being clever, you can't "declare war" on an idea... sorry... What I can say is those individuals paid with their lives, and I'm willing to bet that they wouldn't have been so eager to do that if they didn't believe that they would get a better one in return. So if we're gonna start declaring war on ideas, I think religion (an afterlife) should be included on the chopping block.
  6. I gotta say, if you're riding as conservatively as you should, and you really understand countersteering like you should, it might surprise you a little if they lean the wrong way, but you as the operator should have no problem at all compensating for that... if a new passenger causes an accident by leaning the wrong way, you were riding way too fast, or you had no idea how to countersteer properly...
  7. Sentiments similar to Post 52 aren't uncommon when discussions like these start... Off topic, but somewhat relevent, had a friend who considered the marines, his dad (who had served in the marine corps) told him "if you're planning on signing those papers, I'm breaking your arms so you can't, and if you've already signed, I'll break your legs so you can't go, I've worked too hard to give you a better life than I had to let you throw it away in the same hell I went through." That always resonated with me, and definitely affected my decision to ultimately decline the numerous offers from the various branches.
  8. After some of the flack I got from the enlisted, a license plate isn't remotely offensive..
  9. I have no contempt or scorn for the military, I just think the recent culture of idol worship for anyone in uniform is a little overblown. Am I callous about 9/11, probably, but I'm willing to bet you're just as callous about the millions of innocents that die in iraq and afghanistan thanks to the backlash... I've never claimed to be the most compassionate human being on the planet, but I'm happy with who I am. If you're not interested in meeting me, that's fine... I'm probably not interested in meeting you either, I doubt we'd see eye to eye on much.
  10. more of a mutual loss I suppose, but the responsible parties died, and in my world, don't exist anymore. In someone else's version, went to hell. And in still others, went to be with their god and a number of virgins... Point being those responsible were killed for their actions... what higher price can someone pay for a crime?
  11. I'm still towards the middle of the pack, but losing ground...
  12. this, (typically 7%) comes out of seller's pocket at point of sale regardless of selling price, or how many agents it's split between. If it's already listed with an agent, get a realtor of your own. Make sure they are personally a member of the national association of realtors (not just their agency).
  13. yes, to kill those highjackers... wait they died in the crash... we win! resume civilian life... also, i was 17...
  14. Do you think any 18 YO understands the gravity of what they are signing? Should we raise the minimum age requirement to 21?
  15. arctic fishermen? astronauts? Did these stipulations come as a surprise? or were you fully aware of them when you signed a contract?
  16. No, attacking others before you are attacked is called offense... As I've said, and am willing to reiterate, should the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA come under attack from a foreign entity, and there is the need for me to take up arms to defend my country, I am absolutely willing to do so... I refuse, however, to make a career out of military service. It's a fine career choice for my cousin, and he loves it, but it's just not for me.
  17. those are people who provide a service to you personally... Should people thank me because the air conditioning works in their honda? No... I'm doing my job and it indirectly affects them, sure... but I'm not providing a service to them, I'm just looking after myself.
  18. I've done group rides 2-up, I'd be down for a 2-up group ride... heck the first ride I took backpack on was fonzie's new river gorge ride, she did 16 hours of mostly rain like a champ.
  19. Passenger loading: I leave it on the kickstand when backpack loads and unloads, she puts her left foot on the left peg, then swings the other leg over using me to stabilize herself... she's 4'11 and my bike is pretty tall. We've only had one incident where she lost her footing and she fell. Once she's loaded and ready, I stand up the bike, kickstand up, and away we go.
  20. I suppose this is a better written version of where I was coming from...
  21. no I have not, (at least not in a decade) please fill me in.
  22. let's do that... generally speaking, what does a high school graduate make in the private sector?
  23. in that case, you had better thank everyone who chose a government job other than yours the postal workers, the CIA, the FBI, NSA, INS, FDA... the list goes on and on... OR they said "who wants paid better than the private sector? Also, we don't care if you have an education as long as you can follow orders"
