So, finally got new tires on the bike, Michelin Commander II.  <Cha-Ching>

Got gouged by the shop doing the install, they replaced both tubes, even though neither tube had been on the bike for more than 6 months(picked up nails and had the tubes replaced), and they "found" issues that needed fixing before the State inspection would pass it, costing me an extra $200.

But after riding the bike for two days, I have confirmed the tires are not balanced correctly.  Bad shake(not a shimmy) from 40-55 mph.  The shake doesn't seem to happen at 60+....I've verified by going down many different roads that I know are smooth, one brand new blacktop and the other 2 year old concrete.

So, should I take the bike back to the shop that screwed me, or pay someone else to fix it?

For once i agree with Isaacs papa. Tell them you have an issue and give them a chance to right the wrong. Then if that fails tell them to fix it. If that fails hit up hoblick and see if he's still doing tires on the side.

I will call them when they finally open up(closed on Mondays) and see what they say.

I guess after feeling like I was gouged, and having high expectations from all the reviews of the tires saying how nice of a ride folks have been getting, it is extremely frustrating...and having had to wait to ride for 3 months, since it wouldn't pass inspection without new tires, and having the expenses of closing on the house in Columbus(yeah, it finally sold, and I only lost $20,000! thanks to an appraiser with an attitude)....it just makes me want to take someone's head off.

I'll give them the opportunity to try and make it right.

That's why I like being able to get opinions from a diverse group of riders....helps keeping me from being too much of a dick.

A few years back I had AW Farrows install and balance a front tire I bought from them.  Went up after it was done, rode it home to Circleville, 40 miles away.  Noticed it was not riding very smoothly.  Of course I picked it up at the end of day on Saturday.  Rode it some Sunday and yes it felt like the tire was not balanced.  I rode it slowly up the road keeping my eye on the tire and noticed what seemed to be a slight bulge or something in the tire.  Parked it until Tuesday when they were opened.  Rode it back up because I thought there was something wrong with the tire.  They took it, called me later said it was done, they could find nothing wrong.  I picked it up and they charged me $90! to check their work out. Rode it into town,m turned around and went back because it was still wobbling a bit.  Argued with them getting no where.  So I rode it to Reisers down on 23.  He dropped what he was doing, pulled the front wheel off and mounted it on this simple tripod stand and spun the tire around.  Sure enough you could see the tire was out of round.  One side had a sort of bulge, enough to throw the balance off totally.  He said the tire was bad and I should take it back where I bought it.  I related my story to him then, and he said try the manufacturer.  They said I had to go through the dealer where I bought the tire regardless.  I went back to Farrows and ended up being escorted off the premises by the police.

Moral to the story is make sure you are dealing with a shop that cares about making things right with their customers.  Because, at least in my case, you have to deal with that tire dealer if there is a problem.  The manufacturer will not help.

In your case its a bit different.  But adding a couple of tubes isn't all that big a deal.  What, like $20 or so extra?  Seems like cheap insurance, but I would take it back to have it balanced correctly.  Hopefully that's all that's wrong.

Best of luck.

I'm in Benson AZ. About 40 miles north of Sierra Vista/ Ft. Huachuachua (sp), 40 miles east of Tucson and 30 miles North of Tombstone.

I was born in Sierra Vista and graduated from Tombstone High School(way before the new school...the one in town that is now falling down), and was a DJ on 1420 KTAN, I also did some time on the FM, but can't remember the station.

Back to the service....

They put the bike back up and took the rear tire off and noticed the rim is off true vertically by about 1.5 mm.  They do not re-true street rims(but they will do dirt bikes???).

They recommended to just let it ride out and the tire will wear enough to "counter" the rim, or take it to the Honda dealer to see if they can true the rim.

They are also taking the front tire off to see if anything is wrong with it, and to see if they can do anything else.

So it does appear that they are trying to find out what is wrong, but so far, I am getting the evil eye from the little woman about the $$$ for the bike....
