Possibly the last of such trips since we are soon going to be 1+ Hope this inspires some one to plan and go out and ride the roads they want next season. So much so that I stopped posting about it here.These trips are so much fun and you do get to see a lot of cool stuff - as evidenced by Nivin's vid.Casper and ShittyGixer went to Utah with me once and we had a blast. Will you be feeling guilty if you are out riding on those few off days you get without spending quality time with family? I actually do feel a little guilt when I chose to ride all day(or all weekend). Every time is unique though. I try to maintain a good balance over the long term. My wife is very supportive. Christy and I are flying out to San Fran in June to spend a week riding northern CA. This has always been on my bucket list so seeing this video just helps with the wait.Enjoy your addition and make the best of of the 18 years they are with you. That time goes by quick and then you have to trust that you taught them right so they can handle this crazy world out from under your wing. Looks like Doc is going the long term investment route, yea the kid is going to require lots of time and effort in the beginning, but when that kid becomes old enough for chores, that's when daddy goes out and rides instead of mowing the lawn! I USED to wrench in the garage endlessly, all winter long. In the summer, i did track days , and rode a lot. Every day practically. Now, I am Mr. Mom while my wife is at work. My mother in law watchs him while I'm at work. I had a very very tough time with this in the beginning. Now, i wouldn't change it for the world. I love the time i get to spend with him. I still get to wrench, just not as often. its therapy for me, and I appreciate that time more than ever. As for riding, I'm still riding a bit, but my interests have changed from track days, to kart track riding and trail riding. I have learned to appreciate the healing power of some throttle therapy more than ever, just at a slower pace. Some guys give up riding once they have kids. I feel thats a bit nuts, to take something I've done my whole life and just give it up. its a part of me, its made me who i am. I want my son to know the "real" me. not a guy who used to ride motorcycles. As he gets older, i hope he takes an interest, and wants to go ride trails, and kart track or whatever we decide to ride. I wouldn't feel guilty about going riding. If your logging 50k a year, yes i may say you need a reality check. But the sunday ride, or weekend trip, don't stress. Take your time and enjoy "the feel" only rarely that "unexplainable something from motorcycle riding" can really overwhelm the adrenaline and excitement from actual riding part. If starting from san fran to north, take the less known but exciting alternate roads parallel to highway 1 up and then when u come back to san fran take PCH all the way down for endless ocean view. I'd probably want to trailer it out there and ride and then haul it back. renting wont be a bad idea, if you plan flying there and getting a decent bike which u can zip around.
