Has anyone seen the video of the CBR powered Ford Escort? Can't remember which engine, but they were beating the Hell out of the tires with it.

I'm pretty sure the 4-cyl in the Lotus Esprit Turbo is between 250-300 lbs with all the ancillaries plus fluids, and the later ones made 260-280 hp. IIRC, the V8 Esprit engine is also very light (adds about 100 lbs over the four) and makes 350+ hp, but I don't remember that well. Worth looking up if anyone is that interested...

ya Sorry I didn't make myself clear I am debaiting on a swap and am looking for motor options for the bmw. I am looking to get away from bmw $$ but the platform is great and would make a real fun car with some hp

How much do thoes things weigh when striped out?

I think a motorcycle engine is an excelent choice if the car is light enough, too heavy and you deal with the whole lack of torque problem. Although if you turbo it you might get around a little of that. graemlins/bubbrubb.gif

Sequential shit owns joo.

Swapping to an entirely different make of motor PROPERLY isn't cheap - in a case like yours will probably cost as much in the end as just spending the big bucks on your BMW motor....

...but if you really want to do it, try the 24-valve Yamaha V6 from the Ford Taurus SHO. It has an excellent power-to-weight ratio for an automobile engine, and is a favorite swap among a variety of European car owners - light, 2XX hp stock, good torque AND you can rev the hell out of it.

ya I know it is not cheap, unless you can do it all your self and build most of all of the needed adapters.

the SHO motor might work if I go through the trouble of this swap away from OE part I want like 300-350 range though, and tourque to match. I am wondering what a ls1 might look like in a e30 :D

This is all of course after I get the truck done

...you can almost buy the car for that! A used, lo-mi, proper running motor from a turbo-SE can be found for $5k - $10k, depending on where you look. I've seen the early turbo motors typically around $3k, and a running 2-liter NA will be $500-2k, depending on build.

...either way, when I first answered his question, he had not yet clarified it was for swap-into-older-BMW purposes; I just thought it was another "can you think of a..." question, kind of like the thread about the most hp NA 4-cyl a few weeks ago, which came down to 968 vs S2000...

oh well.. blah blah blah...

You have the black 90s turbo, right? I'm curious to know - how many miles are on the engine, how much oil psi do you have at idle when the engine is hot, and how long does it take to build oil pressure when you start the car? I am wondering if the later 4-cyl engines are faring better than the earlier ones did...

And did you get the email I sent w/the ad?

Cheers,
